Cheryl Glasleigh (née Weissmann; 9 AGE - ) is a widely-travelled elf who now serves as Queen of Glasleigh Kingdom.

Appearance

Cheryl is a slender woman of average height, with jade green eyes, and lengthy blonde hair. In her younger years, her hair used to be plaited all the way down to her waist; however, it's now not quite so long, and she usually just leaves it loose.

As a teenager, Cheryl liked to wear vibrant dresses, her favourite of which was lime green with yellow knotted lining. However, in adulthood, she began to make her own clothes - which were simple at first, but after she gained experience and became Queen, they became even more complex and ornate than the dresses she wore as a teenager.

Personality

Cheryl has always been a very creative person, who has is skilled in multiple areas, including writing and sewing. However, by far her favourite creative outlet is music. From a young age, her most prized possession was a small sheep-bone flute, which she used to play folk songs which had been passed down from her ancestors. As she grew older, she continued playing the flute, but diversified by adding the harp and the mandolin to her repertoire. After years of practice, she became skilled enough to play all three instruments semi-professionally.

However, Cheryl can also be a bit of a hot-head. She spent large stretches of her childhood without a supportive father in her life - and, those unhappy years have hardened her. Furthermore, her success as a musician has led her to expect a lot from others (perhaps too much), and she's prone to losing her temper with people who don't meet her standards.

Relationships

Conor - Cheryl's husband, whom she met while she was on her travels to New Atlantis. Immediately, they fell in love with one another - and so, she decided to settle there permanently, and marry him. They later moved to Glasleigh Kingdom, along with their four children: Craig, Ashley, Lucy, and Connie. Previously, they also had an adopted son Chris, and an energetic pet ferret, Fidget.

Chloe - Cheryl's childhood friend, from her days in western Waldia. She had a much more relaxed demeanour than Cheryl - and, as such, she was an important calming influence in her early life. Her brother Duane did often attempt to crush on Cheryl; however, Chloe was usually able to rein him in, so this wasn't a major source of tension in their friendship. Sadly, after Cheryl left home, she didn't get to see Chloe very often; however, they took care not to lose touch altogether, and they still try to see each other at least once a year.

Frederick - One of Cheryl's travel companions, who met her while he was searching for a Silver Oak leaf in Belaya Reka. They did attempt to start a relationship; however, this ultimately went nowhere, as Cheryl found Frederick to be too awkward and immature.

Story

Early years

Cheryl was born in 9 AGE, at the traditional Elvish birthplace of Magnifloria. After the birth, her parents took her back to their home in the village of Grünheim in western Waldia, where they raised her together for the next three years. However, shortly after her third birthday, her father Ludwig decided to return to his military career, serving as part of Waldia's border patrol. As a result, he left home, leaving the task of raising Cheryl to her mother Ophelia. Naturally, these years were stressful for both of them: Ludwig earned plenty of money, but he only returned home sporadically, and both Olivia and Cheryl were constantly anxious that they might never see him again. During these early years, Ophelia would comfort her daughter by singing her traditional folk hymns - and she in turn would play them back on her sheep-bone flute.

However, when Cheryl was on the verge of adulthood, her life got substantially easier. Her father retired from the military - and returned home for good, bringing a hefty military pension with him. As a result, he was able to afford a fairly lavish gift for his daughter's 18th birthday: he purchased a second-hand gold-trimmed book named "Verses of the Valley". This contained over three dozen Elvish folk songs - some of which Cheryl recognised from her mother's singing, whereas others were completely new to her. Sadly, the very last song in the book was missing: the title 'Hymn of the Whistling Wind' was still present, but the page was torn beneath this.

Life as an adventurer

Since Cheryl had never left Grünheim, she was itching to see more of the world - and, the torn page gave her the perfect excuse. She and her long-time friend Chloe agreed to travel to the surrounding towns and cities, in search of a surviving copy of 'Hymn of the Whistling Wind'. Accompanied by Chloe's brother Duane, and another curious elf named Marlow, the two of them set off on an epic voyage of discovery. Naturally, these inexperienced travellers did run into some mishaps along the way; however, they also had plenty of wonderful experiences - and so, when Cheryl finally did find the song, she was almost sorry to return home. For sure, her appetite to travel was whetted further.

About a year after finding her song, Cheryl packed her bags and left home again - this time for good. At first, she settled in Waldstein Castle, where she entertained the soldiers and guests by playing her music. Many of them were impressed - including the 16-year-old Prince Rommel, who chose her as his first girlfriend. They remained together for two years, and intended to marry; however, Rommel's father Archduke Otto did not wish for him to marry someone of non-royal parentage. Heartbroken, Rommel and Cheryl agreed to end the relationship - and she left Waldstein for pastures new.

Cheryl then spent the next five years of her life without any fixed home: she would travel from town to town, staying in whatever accommodation she could find, and making a living by playing her music at feasts, dances and other social gatherings. Thanks to her youthful looks and musical talents, she had no trouble finding boyfriends - who would sometimes accompany her for a leg of her journey. However, because she frequently moved from town to town, and never stayed in the same place for more than a month or so, none of these relationships ever became serious or lasted for particularly long.

Settling down, motherhood, and rulership

What broke this pattern, however, was a visit to New Atlantis, in the year 35 AGE. Shortly after arriving, she met a young Elvish general named Conor, who was serving in the New Atlantis military. The two of them were completely smitten with one another - and they immediately fell in love. After a few dates, Cheryl knew in her heart that she had found her soulmate - and she couldn't keep up her travels: she would have to settle down here with him. As a result, the two of them moved into a specially-constructed treehouse within the castle grounds - and, within a year, they were married.

In their first year of their marriage, Conor and Cheryl both displayed a mischievous streak. They enjoyed playing pranks on Nestor, which occasionally landed them with fines or time in the dungeons. They also began to build a small family - first by adopting prince Christopher Light (inside a five-year-old's body) as their child, and then by acquiring a rather energetic pet ferret by the name of Fidget. Through all of this, Conor continued to serve as a general; however, when Cheryl became pregnant with his first biological child, he retired from combat in order to take care of her. As the baby's due date neared, she and Conor took one more journey together - back to the enchanted land of Magnifloria, where both she and Conor had been born. The next two weeks were tense for both of them, as they waited for the baby to arrive; however, in the end, Cheryl gave birth to a healthy boy, whom she named Craig, after Conor's father.

For the next 12 years, Cheryl and Conor continued to live in New Atlantis. After Craig came three daughters (Ashley, Lucy, and Connie), and the couple spent most of their time raising their expanding family. However, in the year 50 AGE, Conor was made king of Light Kingdom (which was duly re-named "Glasleigh Kingdom"), and she and her family moved from their New Atlantis treehouse into Glasleigh Castle. There, Cheryl now serves as her husband's chief adviser, as well as his head of household, ensuring that operations run smoothly within the castle itself, while Conor takes care of the rest of the realm.

These days, most of Cheryl's time and energy is taken up her duties as Queen, and by caring for her four children. However, she hasn't given up on her music: she still plays at Nestor's feasts and banquets, whenever her busy schedule allows her to do so. Furthermore, once her children have grown up, she'd like to see more of the world. Where she'll go, and when that might be, is anybody's guess.

Trivia

Cheryl speaks six languages: New Boreal, Modern Archonian, Modern Lumic, Belayan, Novoatlantean, and Waldian. Among major characters, she is second only to Henrik in total number of languages spoken - and he has the advantage of being over four times her age.
