Luther exudes a 'calm before the storm' kind of energy. Incredibly restrained, reserved, and always professional when on the job, he is an Undyre of very few words. On his rare days off, he tends to lean toward fairly sedate activities like reading, enjoying good food, swimming with his Waveflier, even having a bubble bath. Away from work, Luther is quite genial and enjoys good banter. Get him drunk enough and he'll even show-off some dance moves and his 'show-stopper'. Loves a good tussle and brawl, but the drunker he is, the easier it is for him to start a fight and lose control.

There is a deep, dark brutal side to Luther. He gets a lot of enjoyment out of fighting though he'd never admit this openly. He says he can keep it contained to his job but there have been moments in his life where fighting has filled a void. Whether its the adrenaline rush, the phsyicality of it or the sense of purpose and satisfaction, Luther will probably be a brawler for the rest of his life.

Not the most academically intelligent Undyre you'll ever meet but he has the equivalent of 'street smarts' and just knows how to get things done. Takes absolute pride in his work and his loyalty/dedication to the family he works for.

Luther was born into a big family who had been in the Enforcement company for generations. Not quite middle-class but not quite paupers either, the Escutcheon family line is known for good, dependable Undyre with desirable features like a good work ethic and physical prowess. Luther is the tallest in his immediate family, though his grandparents always used to tell tales of 'giants' in the bloodline. It could just be that Luther, also the youngest and born quite late into the family, never had to fight his siblings for food. Second, third, even fourth-helpings were his for the taking.

Hard work, dedication, doing a good job...these were paramount for the Escutcheons. Nothing mattered more than that reputation. It didn't even matter what aspect of Enforcement that the Escutcheon kits went into (two of them went into general law enforcement, another became an evidence and archives specialist within Enforcement, with only one girl who bucked the trend to become a Medic) as long as they did a good job. That's a lot of pressure to put on young Undyre but for all the discipline that the father dished out, the mother always made up for with care. Luther was not raised the same way. In complete contrast to his siblings, Luther's father took ZERO INTEREST in his life, and even acted like the kit didn't exist for most of the time.

Luther was a fairly happy-go-lucky kit, but his size difference and the menacing birthmark on his face brought ridicule and unwanted attention. He hated feeling so different and would frequently lash out at his bullies. His mother did her best but Luther just lost control of his strength. He even went through a phase of wanting no mirrors in the house! To this day he doesn't particularly like looking in a mirror for anything other than grooming.

In Luther's adolescence, he was head-hunted by the outgoing personal guard for the Graf family. As an ageing Undyre, his retirement was looming and he needed a successor. With very little involvement of Luther, it was decided - Luther would begin his life with the Grafs and be mentored by the outgoing guard. Luther later discovered that his father was fearful of Luther joining the Enforcement recruits on a traditional career path. Luther's brutal streak might be a black-mark on the family name. The Grafs are an upper-society Architect family with a good reputation for getting things done. What no-one else knows is just how they get things done - how they get compliance from tricky clients or objectors, how they get their projects fast-tracked for approval, etc. It turns out that personal guard also doubles as personal fixer.

Luther was subjected to a brutal period of 'being broken.' Previous candidates had all either perished in the process or been left a gibbering wreck, unsuited for the work. The outgoing guard was not only trying to train a successor, he was personally testing just how far he could break and then re-shape another Undyre. Luther survived but at the cost of his perception of freewill. By the end, Luther could be capable of great things - but he would have to be told what to do for the rest of his life.

For all of his reservations about how the Grafs did their business, they looked after Luther well. When his mentor formally retired, Luther inherited the expanded living quarters. He was invited to eat at the table with the Grafs, they treated him like a valued member of the family, at least until he was required to do his job.

After the Tonpelli Tech Fair disaster, Luther naturally fell into the defensive work of the Tonpelli Blues. It was regimented, formal, physically active. He responded so well to being given orders and the violent nature of the work kept him at peace. Well, as peaceful as bludgeoning cyborgs could be. But his time with the Blues is beginning to take its toll. 2 months of poor sleep, always being alert, and pushing his body to absolute limits is bound to have consequences.
