He wasn't always like this. He didn't really care about being a lawyer, but his family was well-off and he needed to look useful. Matteus struggled to graduate from his university... which wasn't a good image. That's when it all began. Cheating, bribing, underhanded methods were what got him to where he is now. He knows many people who work in the shadows and knows exactly how to utilise them to further his career. The rumours always followed him around... but no one had a solid case against him, so there was nothing anyone could do.
He wasn't ready for one name to ruin him to the core: Toma Mathre.
Toma was a defense attorney unlike him, being a prosecutor and all. However, they had an air of arrogance which felt quite enticing to him. Sharing - and winning - quite a number of cases with them, his superiority complex only grew more and more. In a moment of hubris, he jokingly taunted them out of court... which led Toma ask to see him; alone. He didn't expect to get blackmailed by them... especially with so much evidence. How...? How did they know?!
Pressured to give up on his tactics, Matteus was under Toma's thumb whenever they shared a case. He had to follow their every request, command, even if it had nothing to do with his profession. It was sort of hot, but this lack of control made him incredibly insecure. In turn, he tried his best to set Toma up in order to blackmail them back, whilst quickly scrambling to prepare his next case with them in nervous urgency.
The next day, he lost consciousness. Matteus was no longer himself: he was Matthew now, the dimenller. Matthew doesn't retain his other self's memories, so he finds himself a prosecutor wrapped up in a shady case of attempted murder in some famous academy. He only wanted to look for the one he'd lost long ago, but here he is, trying to make sense of the notes and evidence his hands are full with. Making his way to the courtroom like a lost fool... he sees them. A lawyer with uncanny likeness to Tam... and two defendants he has definitely seen before in another dimension.
The defendant, Luleni, recognises him somehow?? And Tam- I mean Toma hates his guts?! ...Errm... this is going to be very difficult; and his rowdy feelings aren't making it any better.

Design Notes
Matteus looks quite similar to Matthew's original form but his hair is a tad longer and neater. He's a human with light skin. His eyes are square-ish, yellow-black in colour - they are more faded when Matthew isn't there. His eyebrows are long and thin whilst his nose is stubby and square-ish. Body-wise he's a bit chub, short in stature. His hand type is round. He likes dressing in red, yellow and blue hues.
His work attire is multilayered. Over a blue button shirt, he wears a yellow tie with a crown accessory and a long burgundy scarf with crown motifs at the ends. He also wears a burgundy tailcoat with yellow accents (asymmetrical yellow accent on the right side of the collar (our left)). His pants match his coat with gold cuffs that look like crowns at the bottom. His brown shoes have thick gold heels. Fun fact: he is ambidextrous!
It's time for some trivia!
- He's a piece of shit.
- He has many connections with people who... work in the shadows. He's entangled in some deep shit and Toma knows that--
- He actively avoids his university professors and kindhearted honest people. He's a scared coward at heart.
- He's a smoker and a bad one at that. When stressed, he can finish 2 packs in a day. It's terrible that Matthew had to live in this mess of a body-
- He low-key has the hots for Toma. Matthew HIGH-KEY has the hots for Tam-- I mean Toma...
- The abusive and toxic relationship he has with Toma gives him mixed feelings. Matteus is enchanted but terrified, whilst Matthew is bewildered, seeing the disconnect between the Tam he knew and the Toma he is experiencing now.
- Matthew, Tam and Luleni all participated in a killing game in an undisclosed dimension; Matthew himself was disguised as someone he thought he made up by the name of "Ivory". It's weird that Luleni seems to recognise him here, especially since they weren't the Luleni that participated that game.
- His mannerisms are inspired by Apollo Justice but his outfit is actually more of a mix of Phoenix Wright's and Detective Gumshoe's clothing.
- Is this an indirect way for me to obsess over stupid lawyer drama? Yes. Absolutely.
