Another one of the five Protectors of Delacroix. Iris is very reserved and has a tendency to not leave home for any reason unless it's to see Hana or to do Protector work. He is also somewhat physically weak and has to rely on her scythe due to her lack of magic, however, she still tries to take care of their fellow Protectors.
Trivia
- Iris' first last name (Lù) is read as "鹭" in Chinese, which means "heron".
- In real-world terms, Iris is meant to be Chinese-(Inari) Sámi.
- Her birthday, while written as 6/29 in-universe, is basically June 29 in real-world terms, making her a cancer.
- Despite the tree theme, Iris does not like the outdoors all too much, and is mostly a recluse.
- Originally, Iris had magic mostly centering around plant manipulation. This was changed, however, as I ultimately wanted to explore the concept of an Apsentia witch as a Protector and how that would work considering how much the society itself, especially the role of Protector, relies on magic.
- Was the second character designed for Descendants ☆f Hazel (prev. Witch☆Hazel) ever, and was originally meant to be the antagonist to Hana. This has since changed, however, and now both Iris and Hana care about each other very much instead of hating each other.
As a resident of Saint-Alizée, Iris has known the Lacolombe/Amano sisters for several years prior to the start of the season, with her being significantly closer to Hana and therefore being the only one Hana really trusts outside of her family. Much like the sisters however, Iris was sheltered quite a bit by their mother, who viewed his lack of magic as a physical weakness that would make her significantly more vulnerable than most to the outside world. This led her to having some issues in getting along with Nahid and Lola due to not having known them prior to being a Protector (and Iris’ general lack of social skills courtesy of being sheltered), but she trusts them over his time as a Protector…or, at least he trusts Nahid.
Obviously, they're actually very far from being “vulnerable” like her mother believed; despite his lack of magic, Iris is still entirely capable of any activities as a Protector and can be argued to be more proficient with her weapon than the others as she doesn’t have to rely on magic as much as the other Protectors of Delacroix do. Overcoming the problems that were previously thought to have held her down, she now tries to help the others do the same.
