They are basically a god kinda in a way? They observe knowledge and interactions. They have been here since the beginning of time and know everything.
They are built into the world's code. So even if he were to "intervene" it was always meant to happen. But he generally doesn't but mortals and humans just aren't on the same thought level as a god.
He doesn't understand their actions and they don't understand him, so the feeling is mutual.
They live in a limbo kinda but he's constantly aware, feeling, breathing.
Earth is an interesting thing to them. But so is space.
He has evolved with technology, his body changing and adapting with humanity. So he hasn't always looked like this
He isn't a very loved god because of his stoic and seemingly uncaring nature. So he's not saught out or worshiped. But if he allowed himself to care, he'd be permanently greaving.
But humanity is a curiosity he wished he understood
