Erin

Erin was born to Corsiva and Garamond, a very powerful couple in the Underground. Corsiva, not wanting to have a child and to remain in the carefree lifestyle of a rich trophy wife, made the decision to get rid of Erin. She had told Garamond about this, to which he protested, but Corsiva overpowered him and did it anyway. Garamond wanted to at least give his daughter a name, Corsiva didn’t. Garamond insisted, and Corsiva gave in, but gave her a name with no meaning to devalue her as a person. In general, skeletons are named after a font, so Corsiva gave her the name Erin as a way of saying, “You aren’t even worthy of a name.” Garamond became overwhelmed, and before Corsiva took her away he wrote her name on the back of her head in hopes that someone would find her. After this, Erin was left in the dump in Waterfall. Three days after being left alone, two skeletons were on a date, Dr. W.D.Gaster and his wife, Gabriola. Waterfall has always been a special place to them, that’s where they met, and it’s a gorgeous place. On this particular day, they found a baby, with the name “Erin” written on her skull in marker.

After taking her home, caring for her, Gabriola and Gaster just kept her. When she was around six she started to develop markings on her skull, which puzzled her parents. It soon became apparent that Erin was a Candy skeleton, a sub species of skeleton. Erin didn’t ever pay attention to this until she was around 13, when she started getting more developed markings. When this came to light, her parents were backed into a corner and told her she was adopted. Erin was hurt at first that her parents never told her, but she soon accepted it. She became closer to her family because of this, she felt more like herself. Erin is the second cousin of Sans and Papyrus. Gabriola has a cousin named Calibri, who’s the brothers’ mother. They’re nine years older than her, but she always liked hanging out with them. At some point, it’s figured out that Erin is hispanic. Because Erin struggled a lot with feeling alienated from her family, she decided to start planning her Quinceñera, since it’s a big event. When Erin is 15 and her quince is thrown, she is ecstatic. She cried, which isn’t something she does normally. During the portion where she and her dad danced, she was overwhelmed with emotion. Erin is a huge daddy’s girl. She cried a lot at her quince, especially when she saw how supportive her family was, and that everyone showed up.

When Erin was 18, she discovered that her parents were expecting another child. Her first thought was that they were trying to replace her, but she was soon reassured, and became very excited for her little sister! (At some point soon after this Papyrus just, somehow also has a child, she just appeared one day and nobody questioned it. Calibri had them without a partner, so it wasn’t out of the ordinary.) Shortly after Segoe was born, Gaster fell into the CORE while performing his duties as Royal Scientist. This devastated the family, and left Gabriola to take care of her infant alone, without her husband. Because of this, Erin decided she’d stay at home to help take some of the burden off of her mother instead of moving out. Years later, when Erin was 22, Gaster miraculously came back from the void. Being in the void so long had destabilized Gaster, but Erin finally had her dad back! When he came back, he and Erin became much closer than they had before he’d gone missing. Gaster felt he had to make up for lost time, and Erin just missed her dad, so at random points she’ll lay her head on his shoulder or curl up next to him on the couch. Erin calls Gaster “Pops,” “Daddy-o,” and other funky names instead of Dad, but in serious situations she calls him Dad, which Gaster has picked up on.

As of the events of Undertale, Erin lives in New Home with her family. When the Underground is set free, Erin starts to become curious about her birth parents. She finds it hard to track them down, mostly because she knows nothing about them. The only thing she knows is that she has a half brother, and that Guatemoc is his father. She asks anyone who will listen to her, and eventually she gets an address. She goes to meet them, with the support of her friends and family. She discovers who exactly her parents are, and how influential they are in the world, or rather were in the Underground. Erin is immediately preyed upon by Corsiva, who made sure to paint herself in a good light when speaking to Erin. When Erin asked why they left her in the dump, Corsiva went on to tell her that they were forced to give her up, to protect her from the public, to protect their reputations, etc. Eventually, after months of having been in contact with her parents, Erin discovered what happened to a friend of hers at the hands of Corsiva and confronted her with Gabriola. In this conversation, Corsiva let it slip that she had named her Erin maliciously.

For years, Erin had wondered why she didn’t have a font like every other skeleton. At first, she thought it was because she was a candy skeleton, but then she met Costello, he had his own font, and he was a candy skeleton too. For years, she’d struggled with imposter syndrome, and for years she’d worried about being different, about what was wrong with her. She learned that Corsiva had named her so specifically so she wouldn’t have a font, to intentionally disable her. This, along with what she learned about what Corsiva did to her friend, sent Erin into hysterics. She attacked Corsiva, attempting to Fight. Gabriola had to put herself between them, because she knew Corsiva would easily overpower Erin. Garamond, having just reunited with his long-lost-daughter, threatened to leave Corsiva if she did anything to Erin. This shut Corsiva up real quick, because he was funding her lifestyle. Not too long after, with the help of Garamond, Corsiva is arrested and sentenced to prison, and dies before any of her other children can meet her. After her sentencing, Erin continues to have a relationship with Garamond. She doesn’t call him dad, but he is a figure in her life. Shortly after this, Gaster and Gabriola have yet another test tube baby, a little baby named Bonnie! Erin just adores them. Bonnie will crawl around the house, trailing behind Erin.
