"It was just gin and honey. Must have been the lemon. Those can really jump out and getcha."
"History"
James and Ray, paternal half brothers, were both born to mothers of no particular renown and names lost to time, but an infamous father—Alexander Margaret (although whether that was his true name or a stage name is information also since lost to time). A popular magic showman accused of many thefts, but no one was ever able to truly prove he was the culprit. It was said Alexander would often catch glimpses of both the future and past, aiding in his heists and ability to escape conviction.
His only two children would inherit one ability each. James’ mother died shortly after his birth under mysterious circumstances, leaving James to Alexander. Ray’s mother was quick to pass Ray off as well—although she would live a few years longer. The three of them never grew particularly close. Eventually, Alexander’s luck would run short, and he was found murdered.
Roland, the detective tasked with investigating the murder, would later adopt James and Ray with his wife, Lena. Over time, the brothers would become closer, but their relationship would later become stifled as their inherited abilities manifested more clearly. Eventually, Roland would convince both of them to use these abilities to aid in detective work.
Ray received “Foresight,” which grants him the ability to glimpse into potential futures of individuals he’s been in contact with. The trigger for this appears to be unknown, as Ray occasionally catches these glimpses at random like his father before him. He can, however, intentionally use it in the same way that James can—by coming in contact with the blood of the deceased.
"Personality"
Jovial and quick to crack a joke, there isn’t much that Ray appears to take seriously. He is typically happy, mellow, and usually making jokes no matter how appropriate the situation. Regardless of the circumstances, Ray doesn’t really get angry… seemingly.
Sly and cunning, he is incredibly smart beneath the jokester exterior. It is often hard to get a read on Ray’s true feelings. He’s not above making jokes or pulling pranks at the expense of others, and is no stranger to pulling one over on others to get the upper hand. For the most part, nothing he ever does comes across as intentionally malicious, but definitely inconsiderate and ill thought out. Some would argue that perhaps he’s trying to overcompensate for something. Maybe even more simply… there’s just something more sinister to his core. For the most part… he seems to mean well.
Although very easily frustrated, he makes it a point to joke about this and play it off too. Ray is his most readable when talking about things he is genuinely excited about. He dreams of making it big in the animation industry, and spends much of his free time working solo on a passion project of his.
"Notes"
- Ray mostly resents his Foresight. Few people see a point in being able to divine an unwritten future. Especially in his detective work, it is viewed as almost completely useless.
- He almost exclusively goes by Ray. Most people tend to use Raymond when they’re exasperated with him, a fact he finds amusing.
- He hates being called "Mr. Free" as both James and Roland are.
- He also has a half sister unrelated to James, Ruby Thomas. After the passing of Ray and Ruby's mother, Ray took in Ruby. They do not live in Land's End with the rest of his family. Instead, he owns a small place a little deeper into the city.
- Ray has two different scars. One on his right hand, and the other on his neck. The scar on his neck has a tattoo above it resembling dripping ink.

"The Great and Depressing"
“Ray looked like he’d never been happier in his entire life. In the same motion he tipped his hat to James, he reached for Kelga’s hand—grabbing it gently but tugging firm, linking his arm around Kelga’s as if he were going to slip through Ray’s finger’s if he wasn’t careful.
“Yes. Yes! C’mon, let’s do it!”
Ray sounded like his drinking had finally caught up with him—the words spilling out of his mouth so fast he sounded nervous.Their arms tangled between them in a knot, Kelga could feel Ray shaking, although it was clear enough by looking at him. Ray’s wide eyes and goofy smile almost looked depressing on his tired features—the darkness under his eyes turning against him.
“Roland—” it sounded like the most difficult word Ray had ever forced himself to say, “thanks, really! You’re not gonna regret this.”
“I…” Roland paused, digging for words somewhere in the skin of his neck. “Yeah...”
After being promptly ejected from the casino after a misunderstanding, Kelga later encounters Ray and James, the sons of the casino owners who appear to know Kelga. After a bout of conversation and confusion, James and Ray realize that Kelga isn’t joking around and genuinely can’t remember them.
After James informs Kelga that his memory loss may have been intentionally “scrambled,” and that something supernatural is at play, Ray becomes increasingly interested in getting to the bottom of the mystery.
Even if that just so happens to involve not including James in the investigation…
