University of Whicker Hill Housing Essay

"My childhood was very uneventful. I grew up near Yorkshire, my early years were spent in a small cottage in the countryside but as I became a teenager, I moved closer to the city. My mother was a superstitious type, always telling me that the sun kissed my cheeks a certain way, that I shouldn’t walk too far into the woods lest I get taken by faeries. My belief in such things have waxed and waned over many years, but if you ask me now I’m not sure.

If you’re wondering about my gender marker, or my personal essay, I came out very young. My mother supported me, my father...didn’t. You can see why we moved to the city. Divorce is certainly something, and it’s something I don’t like to talk about. If someone’s going to ask me when I get to the interview room if I think I was the sole reason for it, I’d politely ask you to not. I don’t, and if I did, it’s something a college housing board doesn’t need to know about.

Was never much of a “somebody” socially, always a bit of a wallflower, people have told me I’m unapproachable but the truth of the matter is that I’m always afraid of them, so nothing good ever comes of it. I’m used to being by myself, but never really ever alone. I could never put my finger on it, but I always felt like I had eyes on me. Not a good thing, not a bad thing, just...is.

If you ask me, all I want is to study in peace. But I became a bit of a party boy against my will, and I had to be content with that. It’s almost like magic, people buzzing around me but never bothering to get close.

Do I believe in magic? Well, I’d like to. There’s many practices across history and plenty of anecdotes to suggest that the difference between ‘witchcraft’ and what we consider modern medicine and academia isn’t all that different. But spells and miracles? That’s the stuff of fairytales and the stories of old wives but...it’s fun to think about, I think. Maybe I’ll get my letter to a secret school one day yet.

Until then, I blend in until I stand out, and I’m alright with that."

A Letter to Arcane Scepter Academy

"I don't really know how to start this letter. I suppose...thank you? I'm writing this as a thank you for recruiting me. This past few months have meant more to me then words can describe, but by the gods I'm going to try.

Since I joined your ranks, I've not only been given the chance to explore magick as it relates to this world, but also myself. I've lived my entire life watching things in the corner of my eye, and now getting the chance to see them in the forefront of my vision has been life changing. Working alongside my cabal, exploring the Dreaming, facing against massassa, while the latter has not been ideal, it's been in a sense very freeing. It's given me a chance to explore my heritage as fae-blooded and being given the touch of the dreaming, and as Irish by further delving into the stories and cycles as part of my practice.

I thank you, deeply, for giving me this oppurtunity. I hope to grow into a strong member of the Order of Hermes, and I promise I won't let you down."
