Era 2 defectivness

At the first glance, she seems like a rare miracle of her time. While most other gems from her kindergarten were born short, Ziri grewn to her regular height.

Grey's defectiveness comes from places that can't be seen. Her gem programming is missing some basic data files, that affects her thinking and decision making. She doesn't feel natural respect nor obsessive love towards any diamond, garnet or other authority. Another notable defect is the fact that Ziri doesn't actually know her full name. Her operation system only knows that she's a "Zircon".

Last but not least, her shapeshift is very bad.

Trivia

  • Her reference art is intentionally misleading and doesn't give away her true personality.

D-do I look like a gem, who knows how to fight? Well-...(I suppose I would be able to hit someone hard enough to distract them, if I had to). Luckily I don't need to! And hopefully it stays that way.

Opinion towards

The diamonds: "(I don't understand why they're being worshipped)...*Nervous laugh* W-WHA-WHAT'S THAT?! HAHA, I-I- I mean- FOR THE GLORIOUS EMPIRE! WE LO-O-OVE DIAMONDS HERE!! AM I RIGHT, FELLOW SERVANT?!?-"

Crystal gems: "It's difficult to make an opinion about them. Homeworld does a pretty good job at erasing this part of the history. If it wasn't for my friends, who were alive at that time, the only thing I would've known about Crystal gems is that they existed, they fought and they lost."

The war: "T-That's veeery controversial topic to discuss and I fear my knowledge of it is too miniscule."

Cross-gem fusions: "(ARE YOU CRAZY?! You can't talk about them this loud! It will get you in huuuge trouble! Besides, you surely know what the others declare. They're dangerous, uncontrollable and disgusting to look at... On the other hand, Heli says they're nothing like this... And knowing Homeworld well, I think she's the one speaking the truth)."

Corruption: "There's a difference between being created wrongly and becoming defective by someone else's fault. They're all just an innocent targets punished for the mistakes of others. How on moon can so many empire's citizens walk around and think this is justifiable?! IT'S NOT! IT'S NONSENSE!"

Zircons: "Frankly, I'm happy to be in a facility desaturated from zircons. I don't hate my gem variety, not at all. I'd spent years being surrounded by them. Still, our diverse gem environment simply makes me feel more unique, heard, and appropriated."

Off-colors: "The definition of defectiveness changes every time someone asks. But I don't need to lie to myself. I know I emerged as an offcolor. B-BUT DON'T tell anyone!"

Heli's home station: "I wish my old workplace was just as welcoming. Even though being surrounded by so many high rank gems feels a bit off, they're at least friendly. That Agate especially..."

Resistant to

  • Empire's propaganda: The natural lack of a mindless obsession with the empire makes her more cautious and less receptive to lies the others believe.

Fears & weak points

  • Heights: She feels very uneasy right next to the cliffs, windows, small bridges and spaceships. What if she falls off or the spacecraft crashes...?
  • The diamonds: Only an unbiased observer can see their true frightening cruelty.
  • Heli getting hurt: How can she not be worry?

Hobbies

  • Working: The combination of Ziri's learned workaholism and presence of gems she cares for makes her job much more fulfilling.

Goals

  • Blend in: For someone like Grey, living in exile sounds too dangerous and scary. Even though she doesn't worship the diamonds, the empire is still a relatively safe place to live. Trying to act as normal as possible is the only thing necessary for staying.
  • Take care of Heli: The world feels like much better place when she's around.

Early Post-war: Era 2

The day her kindergarten was getting ready for a new patch of gems from sector 7, just a two blocks away, Ziri unexpectedly emerged in one of the small back alleys. One period, that by a chance went by, noticed her and did a quick checkup.

Not soon after they both found out that there were no records of Ziri's implantation nor any other info about her expected arrival. The fact that Zircon could'n even identify herself, or her owner, let the peridod believe that for a brief moment, someone by accident turned on one of the uncalibrated injectors, resolution in Grey's incomplete creation.

However, since the kindergarten worker despised the new scrubby era 2, she let Ziri's detectivnes pass, quickly created a fake document for her and sent her to the other new gems.

For a while, Grey was roaming around without a purpose, but quickly learned the frightening consequences of sticking out of the crowd. To avoid this trouble, she decided to find herself a stable place to stay as fast as possible. Ziri followed any other zircon she found while trying to learn what sort of behavior and job is expected of her. Despite her somewhat fearsome nature, she used her small knowledge of modifying gem documents and what different zircons around talked about to infiltrate a resource company hiring workers. She basically stole an identity of its expected new employee, earning their position and small apartment instead of them.

After a few weeks of being a productive Homeworld gem, Grey finally found herself feeling secure. The idea that someone will learn about her real defectiveness finally left her mind. As long as she keeps falsely loving the diamonds or act like everybody around, no one could possibly hurt her.

Years have passed and Ziri barely changed anything about her life. Her monotone work she subconsciously had no deeper feelings for turned her world dull, colorless as one would say. All days were the same... Everyone looked at her the same... Everything was numbingly same... Until Heliodor showed up.
