2. Floating

3. Spikes

4. Hidden gem

5. Four arms

6. Charged shot

Detailed info

1. Thanks to the "magical" cape, watermelons can slowly and elegantly fall down from high places. Unfortunately Melon's corruption has damaged its powers, making it useless.

2.🦠Although previous ability isn't working well, Melon gained a good substitute for it. Tourmaline can just inflate their body and slowly float around... However, this ability cases a huge discomfort and doesn't work for too long.

3.🦠Some parts of Melon's body got covered in spikes. She can retract them or even shoot them at will. Once they leave Tourmaline's physical body and hit a solid object, they explode into thin air. Watermelon also uses them as a part of their body language.

4.Watermelons are surprisingly fragile and therefore must make sure to protect themselves adequately. One way of doing so is to completely submerge their gemstones inside the physical form.

5. Melon's coordination skills are so well developed, that they can easily control another pair of arms. So why not take an advantage of it and shapeshift them from time to time.

6.Even after corrupting, Watermelon's deadliest weapon is still up and running (more info in "gem species" section).

Corruption level

Physical form

Inner functions

Mind (4x the valie)

Overall (38%)

After corrupting, Melon grew spikes on their shoulders and head. Their pupils and teeth occasionally change shape depending on Tourmaline's mood. Besides obtaining new skills, Melon gained a moderate desire for eating, which they keep secret.

Overall, Melon is capable of controlling their corruption very well. Although they originally thought it's thanks to their adaptability and overall talent, newer measurements indicated that it's moreover caused by Melon's corrupted mind. Some parts of their consciousness no longer register that their's something wrong with them and feel like their corruption is natural.

Of course, after getting these results, Watermelon erased them from the database and never let anybody, besides Citri, know about them. The idea of having a more primitive feral mind than most gem around would hurt Melon's reputation and ego too much.

Trivia

  • Melon is my favorite oc *gremlin noises*.
  • Out of all of my main 6 ocs, Tourmaline underwent the biggest reworks so far. Both Melon's design and personality changed a lot.
  • No, I don't care that according to the book, Future's watermelon was a fusion... I already remade this gem species (and oc) enough! I made them more chubby, somehow added the additional hands and different height explanation to their lore-... The show itself never informed me about the "fusion" part...
  • Melon was created from the remains of another watermelon tourmaline Oc, that I had to delete from existence due to some ownership problems.
  • Tourmaline's stats are designed in such way to make them a glass cannon character

If you asked me just a few hundred years ago, I would say that precisely planning each step in a battle is the way professionals work. BUT HONESTLY, now I think running head-on into a fight might be just as effective. It surely is more fun!

Weapon

40952881_Zz0VwoR3QSzKLda.png

Crossbow

A long range weapon small enough to be easily hidden in Melon's cape. Its regular shots are pretty average. Once fully charged after 3-5 minutes, it's a death sentence for any gemstone that isn't hard as a diamond. The energy consumption, however, makes it impossible to fire more than 2 charged shots in a row.

Gem regen time 45 days

Other weapons none

"Magical" powers Slow falling, floating

Opinion towards

The diamonds: "I want to follow them just like before... But how can I when everything they do is to COVER UP PINK'S EXISTENCE?! WHERE ARE THE OLD STATUES, BANNERS, PLACES DEDICATED TO HER?! *sigh* But if talking to Uvarovite taught me anything, then it is not Blue's or Yellow's fault. It's the result of this perfectionist WHITE GRAVEL and their "shiiiiining" leader. When you think about it, isn't it strange they weren't even bothered joining the war? And thus, I have no respect for that diamond."

Crystal gems: "I acknowledge their victory. They've proven their cleverness. That being said, I'LL NEVER ACCEPT A REBEL, THAT WAS PRETENDING TO BE ON MY SIDE! THESE CLODDY SPIES DESERVE NOTHING BUT EXECUTION."

Earth: "Earth?? Oh please, don't worry about it~ If Uvarovite's gossips from Yellow Diamond are correct, there won't be any Earth to care for in the next thousands of years. Now, what and how exactly it gets executed is beyond what I can share."

The war: "If the diplomats just gave us the stupid permission to deal with Rose sooner, things would have turned out VERY differently... Oh well, I learned my lesson- don't listen."

Cross-gem fusions: "I've encountered many of these before. Large, small, stable, damaged... I never saw anything too special about them. My disguise always earned their foolish trusts, which later rewarded them with shattering or getting captured. Thinking about it now, I'm starting to regret not being interested in these strange outcasts sooner. They would make brilliant test subjects."

Corruption: "Ha- corruption? Which one are you talking about exactly? One is very recent, the other exists since the dawn of society. They do have one thing in common though, and that's their exploitability."

Elbaites: "Heh, I shouldn't be answering such thing. Since it's you, however, I'll be honest for a moment. *Clears throat* NEVER trust us. NEVER. Trust. Any. Elbaite."

Oldest memory: "Like before the war? SURE! Eeeeee... (Stars, why is my memory so blurry all of a sudden)... OH, how about something from Earth while it was still at peace! I recall this one oasis in the middle of a desert. There were these funny plants; green on the outside, yellowish red inside. So, we jokingly called them watermelons after us, haha! It was also the day I've officially adapted Melon as my nickname."

Disguise missions: "It's been a couple of years from my last official mission. I'm not in the position to attend them anymore. Not because corruption worsens my capabilities or anything. In fact, I would argue it makes me better! Around 1200 years ago, I went on "holiday" to escape our facility's paperwork. An acquaintance of mine found me a group of space-dwelling off-colors I successfully infiltrated. What a blast! You should have seen my performance."

Off-colors: "Ya know, I consider defectiveness a matter of one's interpretation. Subjectively speaking, I don't feel defective. Buuuuut Homeworld would probably argue against it. Oh well, not my problem. If they ever exile me, I'll just become the leader of some off-colors again."

Gem kind: "Gems are fascinating beings. From our creation we're told that each of us has a define purpose and set of skills...- but that is not the case. You see, despite our initial programming, the war showed me a greater potential in all of us. I want to be the one who pushes gem abilities to their very limits and discovers what we're really capable of! And what better place to start than study my greatest subject -myself."

Resistant to

  • Gem shards/mutants: No matter how horrific living shards and their suffering fusions can be, it has no negative effects on Melon whatsoever. In fact, Tourmaline has almost a natural curiosity towards gem mutants. And for some reason, the same mutants seem to be less aggressive in her presence.
  • Shattering gems: They never felt bad nor happy when ending someone's existence. Target is just a target for them. A job. A finished contract. They can't afford feeling guilty.

Fears & weak points

  • Being physically weak: Being once nearly killed in a melee fight created a deep insecurity in Melon's soul. As a result, they're trying to prove themselves strong and resilient through any shape or form. But no matter how hard Tourmaline tries, they can't change their physical limits.
  • Sharing weaknesses: Not sharing their weaknesses with others is what saved their life in the past. They don't want to make themselves vulnerable.
  • Strangers: Due to the war, Melon no longer trust strangers.

Hobbies

  • Collecting: There's something about owning valuable possessions that brings Melon joy. Perhaps it's part of their plan to be respected by Homeworld's elites.
  • Shopping: If you want to own an expensive things, you need to buy them first. Responsibly spending finances is another Tourmaline's hobby.
  • Learning new things: Expanding their knowledge not only makes them powerful but also fulfills Melon's desire of discovering limits of all watermelon tourmalines. Not to mention learning certain things is simply fun.

Goals

  • Climb up the hierarchy: Bigger power brings better opportunities. It's more than adequate to take advantage of it. But should it be among offcolors, Homeworld nobels or elsewhere? WHO CARES?! As long as Melon doesn't have to follow someone's orders, yet still faces a healthy competetion, she doesn't care.
  • Discover each gem's true potential: Besides being motivated by their own curiosity, the lack of Homeworld's resources for manufacturing new gems requires every innovation.

Pre-war

Melon arrived to Earth during the diplomatic negotiation between Crystal Gems and Homeworld, 100 years before the official war began. Unlike in any of her previous missions, Tourmaline was assigned to a whole squad of watermelons, tasked with mapping the terrain for future sniping points and searching for any rural Crystal gem settlement. They weren't allowed to start any offensive attacks yet because there was still a chance of resolving the rebellious conflict in peace.

During these calm years, Melon explored the Earth, became slightly more social, befriended other members of the squad and jokingly named a plant after themselves.

Mid-war

Once the main conflict began, the new squad's orders were simple: eliminate Rose Quartz. While trivial on paper, it turned out the target was always few steps ahead. From having loyal guards sacrificing themselves, to straight up avoiding established sniping locations, it was clear the great rebel commander was well aware of what elbites truly are, when and where are they going to strike.

This obviously sparked a good question in Melon's mind: HOW. How did she know? It didn't make sense. Besides other watermelons, the specialized war commanders and Pink herself, nobody seemingly had access to their mission plans. As years went by, Tourmaline vented this frustration in front of higher ups more and more often, until finally getting one day useful answers from a citrine who overheard their rambling.

After an inspiring conversation with Citrine facet-38YC, Tourmaline got the idea to disobey their main orders and focus on finding out all the other important C.G. generals besides Rose. This plan worked pretty well, until some monster started intentionally targeting all watermelons, shattering them one by one. Being scared for her life, Tourmaline permanently left the battlefield and took upon the role of a detective trying to find any enemy spies among their people. At this point, C.G. spy was the only thing in Melon's mind, that could explain how easily the enemy assassin could locate and defeat fellow professional tourmalines.

Not so long after, Melon face to face confronted one of their watermelon comrades, who admitted to be the wanted shatterer. The traumatic fight that followed between them is something that hunts Tourmaline till this day.
