Story
A former self
Pallasite was once a gem called Gaspeite, a frail and nervous wreck who wanted to be a botanist. Somehow, they landed the patrol job and was, expectedly, not great at it. They were under the impression they were only taken into the job because they were pitied.
Maybe it was true, because their partner didn't like them that much. Either way, it wasn't too long before they were captured and taken to the moon. There, they were offered two options: Join the moon's efforts against earth, or join the rest of the gems on the moon as pale grey dust. The former seemed more appealing to Gaspeite.
Re-run
Gaspeite was repaired with a meteorite that crashed on the moon, and took the name Pallasite. They took much more of a liking to their new body and persona. The only drawback was that in exchange for it, they'd have to help take more gems to the moon.
In their first return to earth, they accidentally ended up on a tiny volcanic island instead. They like to procrastinate working as much as possible, so they can often be found there. Being aligned with the moon, they aren't exactly popular there.
Routine
Pallasite's life was generally the same for hundreds of years to follow. They'd hang out and do some farming on the volcanic island, then the lunarians would show up and retrieve them and they'd go and take some gems, and then they'd sneak back to the volcanic island.
On the volcanic island, there's one permanent winter shift worker and one rotating worker. Pallasite never worked winters, but one year they decided to take it. They were taken, and haven't returned since.
