Story
Long ago...
Rainbow, being one of the older gems, has been around a while. They were somewhat of a prodigy, having excellent swordsmanship skills.
They always wanted to be a seamstress, but that role was already taken so they pursued fighting instead. They'd drift around between partners. Although they were a great fighter, that was the bare minimum. They always felt painfully average in comparison to their peers.
The big idea
Rainbow then had an idea: They'd make themself known as a wise mentor of sorts by training other gems, weaker gems, to be excellent fighters. They'd surely become popular, then.
They got plenty of weak gems into the patrol job, and they attempted to train them up. They really weren't very good at it, and ended up losing several of their partners. They became frustrated after some time and decided to quit patrolling altogether. Soon after, they disappeared.
And then...
What had actually happened was one of their friends, thought to be on the moon, showed up on the beach one day and tried to convince Rainbow to run away with them to an island they'd discovered. Rainbow decided to go.
They've become the seamstress on the new island, they also have taken up farming as a hobby.
