Story
A former self
Stishovite was born on the volcanic island as a gem by the name of Quartz. Quartz was a spunky little guy who lived mostly underwater, studying all the alga and sea creatures who lived around the island. One gem who was born on a different island had the idea to send Quartz to their home island, to get Quartz an education and be polished into shape.
They lived on that island for some time, and then was asked to come back home. For several years life was good for Quartz, until an enormous moon weapon dropped on their island from high in the atmosphere, the speed, heat and pressure crushing them completely.
A new self
Somehow, Quartz's inclusions survived this ordeal, but lost all of their memories. They also weren't really a quartz anymore, but a mix of several shock and melt materials. After re-learning how to speak, they renamed themself to Stishovite. Their peers on the volcanic island recount fond times with Quartz, which sort of upsets them seeing how they can't remember a thing.
They've decided to stop thinking about the past and live life in the present. They befriended another gem who came from the moon and ended up on the island in the same accident that cost them their memories, and they've ended up on the moon a few times. They find it alright there.
