Story
The beginning
Salammoniac was born from volcanic gases on a newly born island in the middle of the sea. They were all alone, and lived inside of an admirabilis shell to take cover from rain. This was life for a while.
For some reason, they were the only gem to keep a form. The other gems, mostly sulfuric ones, frequently burned up or broke. Sal was careful and cautious and managed to stay mostly solid. Whenever they did break, the circulating gases would deposit more crystals onto them, cementing cracks back together.
New friends
One day, a gem washed up on the shores of Sal's island. They were polished and clothed and completely unlike anything they'd seen before. (Not that they'd seen much, because they didn't have eyes...) The new gem, having dislodged their eye, gave Sal the ability to see and some companionship. The two hung out on the island for several years.
The new gem got an idea, to build a new community on the island. The gem came from a place far away where many others lived, and where there were many resources. So, they set back into the sea. By the time they'd mapped the seafloor and returned, a few more gems were born. They were all much stronger than Sal was, so they felt a little outcasted, but they were happy to have some friends.
Changes
Much time passed. The island grew both figuratively and literally, plants colonized it and so did gems. Some were born there, some were brought there. Sal wasn't that close with many of them and kept to a little crater where acidic water and sulfuric minerals built up.
The first gem that Sal met ended up having quite a dark secret that they were hiding, and the others kicked them out. To Sal's surprise, one of the other gems asked them to be the new president. They don't know how to handle it.
