Appearance

A willowy man with narrow eyes and an angular face, people rarely know exactly what Sildis looks like as he often distorts his appearance using magic. He particularly likes obscuring his face and changing his eye colour from brown to gold. Sildis prides himself in his looks. He takes care of himself, especially when it comes to his long, wavy, black hair. However, his need to present himself as something otherworldly trumps his vanity. If he doesn’t bother to change his appearance, Sildis does still have some signs that he is no longer an elf. All but his central incisors teeth have an obvious sharpness to them. His canine teeth look particularly long as he caps them in gold.

Sildis has several beauty marks on his face, two below his right and and two on his left cheek. The mark on his forehead shaped similarly to an exclamation mark is actually a tattoo signifying that he was a court sorcerer. Sildis likes to dress in expensive clothing, but often appears underdressed for the weather. Typically he doesn’t wear much more than a shirt, trousers, boots, and a traveling cloak.

Sildis can turn himself into a swarm of flies and is heavily associated with insects. With undead, the more damage they take, the more monstrous they become. After a certain point they hit a peak monstrous form and gain the ability to flip back into their human form at will. Sildis's monstrous form is insectine in appearance. He has a hard carapace with noticeable bristles; it has a similar colouration to that of a green bottle fly. The bristles that cover him do contain a venom.

Personality

In life Sildis was known for being perfectly behaved in the courts, but an absolute bastard in the field. He knew how to play the political game in front of his superiors. Fawning, honeyed words to help keep him a favoured pet in the eyes of those who controlled him. He hated it, despising the knowledge that he would never be anything but something to be used.

Outside of his master's view, his misery manifested as issues of impulsivity, gaining him the reputation of being a man with a hair-trigger temper and a habit of spending money foolishly in pursuit of pleasures. Smashing things, constantly arguing, blowing through a month's pay in a matter of days, Sildis was a disaster and a misfortune to know. His habit of taking his misery out on others, combined with the status of his birth and the odd favouritism shown to him by his superiors, Sildis found himself isolated from everyone around him.

Now as an undead, Sildis has never been happier. Sure he may still have a master, but a monster is better than any king or sorcerer, and the leash he's kept on is so slack it might as well not be there at all. He's free to go where he wishes and do what he wants. With the power he has been given he can do as he damn well pleases. The cruel streak that was present in life is still present in death, but now runs unchecked. He doesn’t give a fuck about humans or the undead he makes. He doesn’t care about the long-lasting turmoil he leaves in his wake. Never again will he be the dirt under another man's heel. As far as Sildis is concerned, the only thing in the world that matters is himself and his loyal follower, Ren.

Trivia

  • Name basically translates to "Beloved son of Solban". When he was still a human, he would go back and forth on whether he wanted to change his name to something less foreign. Sildis never went through with it as his name is a symbol of his father's love for him.
  • A jack-of-all trades when it comes to magic. Most talented with lightning.
  • Associated heavily with storms

Notes on Drawing

  • I would prefer that the 1st or 3rd outfit be drawn
  • His hair can be drawn either laying flat or 'floating' (the fullbodies vs. the headshots on his ref sheet)

Relationships

He has complicated feelings towards his father. Sildis certainly loved him and still thinks of him fondly even if knows his father would have been disappointed in the man he grew up to be, and horrified with the monster he later became. Solban made consistent sacrifices his entire childhood to ensure that he could become a Sorcerer and escape poverty. However, the misery that being a Sorcerer brought somewhat taints his view towards his father.

Sildis doesn't care for the idea of being under someone, but Richardson is so lax Sildis almost forgets he has a master at all. Almost. Come when called, behave while there, and then he's free to go back to his life; a monster is easily the best master he's had.

Ren Payne

companion

Originally, Sildis only took him along to avoid a repeat of being trapped and entombed. However, he wound up taking a real liking to the man. Sildis thinks Ren is as a clever, resilient, and funny person. Ren means the world to him. He knows the man would die for him in a heartbeat, and will not admit how much that concept has begun to scare him. Ren is the only person Sildis is okay with touching him.

Aschecraft

mutual adversaries

He gets along terribly with the other undead and thinks the man to be nothing but a selfish and spoiled noble. Aschecraft had the best in life and now expects it in death. Sildis hates the man and would kill him if he could (he can't for multiple reasons) and knows that Aschecraft shares the sentiment. They fight nearly every time they set eyes on each other.

Nezetta

acquaintance

He doesn't feel much towards her as they have only met a handful of times. Sildis thinks they have similar views towards life, but doesn't care enough to have any personal conversations with her. He only bothers to interact with her when they both happen to be meeting with Richardson. All he really knows is that she minds her business, an admirable quality.
