Story

Miles was born into the Origia family which only meant one thing: he was destined to know everything. It takes a few years for the new set of POKs (Pillars Of Knowledge) to appear, but when they do, the Origias know. Memory is the only POK to be born into a specific family in a specific location, Australia. His item is an heirloom, passed from generation to generation, unchanged from the first reincarnation.

When he began "remembering" events that never happened to him by the early age of 4, his family knew he was the one. These intrusive thoughts... all this excessive information flooding his brain made him forget things about himself; typical for someone bearing Memory's duties. However, his family knew the tradition and practices which would help mitigate the effects... and shape Miles into the next leader of the POKs. Learning to control the unstoppable thoughts was the first step. Then, came age-old information about the history of POKs, their ancient ancestors, the Hauntans, and specifics about each and every type of POK.

A trip 'round the world

The first tingle came to him when he was only 14, but he was ready to embark on his journey to bring all Pillars of Knowledge together. The trip would barely cost a thing, since his family was well off. So, it all started in Indonesia with "Reason"; thank the gods for Intuition's strong presence since his tingles were strong enough for him to deduce each POK's location with relative ease. Of course, Miles knew Reason's name was Rhea through memories that weren't his own but... he wouldn't make the same mistake twice. So, he made a decision early on to never uncover anyone's name, since no Pillar could share their own name with the group.

Introducing himself as "Memory", he convinced Reason to join him in order to "conquer Knowledge" as he put it. He knows Reasons get tempted by controversial statements. What was immediately essential was finding Language, since Reason's English wasn't... the best. Fortunately for him, Lann was perfect at his "Aura of Translation"! Unfortunately for everyone else, his social skills were less than subpar; the first mild oxymoron of his team, but it's not something that couldn't be fixed.

Their trip to the United Kingdom tingled him just right to end up in France, finding one dangerous Pillar: Sense. Miles knew he had to be careful around the new guy, Saville, in order to not repeat his past reincarnation's mistakes. Sense was... high all the time, so he supposed there shouldn't be a problem. Still, he made it his goal to get close to him to monitor his movements.

Norway was their next destination, where the group met Imagination. Inge has aphantasia and seemingly gave up on a creative career... The second oxymoron, more severe than the first. Miles knew about the contradictory POKs that show up during every incarnation. It is an unfortunate thing but he was relieved to know it's not someone like Reason.

His last tingle confused him with its intensity but lack of actual location... that must have been Intuition, it wasn't their time yet. Alternatively, the group made it to the US, where they came across Faith's cursed existence. Noting Finchley as the youngest Pillar out of all of them... and unfortunately one of the strongest too, was something Miles would most likely want to forget. Still, six out of eight were already under his wing.

As a leader

Reason's incessant questioning towards the who, the what and the why started getting on his nerves, especially when Faith joined in with ridiculous conspiracy theories. His group's chemistry was worse than the human habitability of the ocean floor and Language, other than being a perfect translator, was terrible at bringing everyone together.

Desperate times called for desperate measures, so Miles did what he knew best: ignore all of them. Supporting them would be too easy, they needed to obtain the information they needed by themselves. Language would need to develop his skills on his own, through sheer hard work and Imagination would need to overcome their shortcomings by opening up to the others. Reason would need to trust anyone else but Miles himself, Faith would need to learn to discern what is real and what is fiction on his lonesome and Sense... no, Sense was the only good one.

So, Reason began holding meetings. All of the Pillars-- or Bastards of Knowledge had settled to meet regularly in specific spots so they could figure out what their purpose and goal should be. Miles didn't mind it much, he had to approve it either way. Maybe this could be the right atmosphere for all of them to start communicating. He knew it wasn't but he was glad he could keep an eye on Sense.

Plan B

His tingling had seemed to stop which could mean many things. Intuition was either dead, stressed about personal matters or wildly distracted; he strongly believed the latter. That was quite an irritating experience, since Miles could not locate Intuition or Emotion. In situations where a standstill is taking place... he knows that isolating his group is the best practice. He barely needed to raise a finger until his family's... organisation... took over with Plan B.

The building he woke up to after the "kidnapping" was all too familiar to him due to his previous incarnations' memories. The empty rooms still reeked of old happenings, with personal items having been left behind. He doesn't even bother "discovering" the rooms of this apartment complex, or even the missing POKs, and instead focuses on finding Sense. He's made a promise to himself to keep an eye on him at all times...

  • He has faith in himself and himself only.
  • Having memories of all the previous Memories has made him intensely cautious and even slightly superstitious. He does not want to make the same mistakes they did, so he remains distant.
  • He is closeted gay, as he thinks he will never fall in love with anyone; it's pointless.
  • He knows about the Hauntans and is quite well affiliated with crows and ravens. He likes taking care of them.
  • He is negligent and purposefully keeps to himself, a man of mysteries. Does it piss everyone off? You bet your as--
  • He is quite literate being able to speak in fluent English, Japanese, Indonesian and French. Through his memories, he is able to understand other languages, but he does struggle.
  • He transferred everyone from place to place with private jets, boats and high-class cars. He thinks nothing of it.
  • He's a classy guy, enjoys fine wine and theatre. However, that is not something which should concern any member of his group.
  • He has a theme song! It's and matches Saville's theme song!

Pillar of Knowledge: Memory

As Memory, Miles has a few abilities. It was expected that he recalls previous Memories' experiences with excruciating detail; all of them end up as recorders of history by the end of the day. He would too, if he and his group don't succeed in finding the Truth of this World like the Hauntans describe it as. His near infinite amount of information gives him the ability to recognise items, people and patterns being repeated time and time again. He can respect the culture of whatever country he needs to visit and speak the language just enough to be trusted.

Most of his extra skills stem from his ability to remember the past, however he does seem to possess an ability of Clairvoyance to learn about other people's pasts; people who weren't previous Memories and are still alive today. This is why he is aware of all other POKs' names. However, since he is not able to share his own name, he doesn't find a reason why he should share the others' names. More knowledge and memories can do nothing but further his remarkable wisdom, useful for solving problems and predicting the outcomes of situations. He makes for a talented leader, even if he doesn't want to be one.

Item: Gemstone

Every Pillar of Knowledge has an item that benefit them in some way. Miles' gemstone necklace was passed down from generations of Memories, as was expected. Items always seem to be randomly selected; except for Memory's that is. This jewel seems to be the only item a Memory or Wisdom has ever possessed, it's a family heirloom.

The jewel has a timeless but essential power that every Memory/Wisdom needs; the ability to suppress and control the overflowing memories of the previous ones. With it, Miles can choose which things he is required to remember whenever he pleases. These memories can work like invasive thoughts, causing overload and headaches; they can even let the person lose themselves and their own identity, effectively causing amnesia. The gemstone allows its user to retain their memories and keep their personality intact... which is exactly why Miles is so secretive and overprotective of his item.

Relationships

8810669?1681480768 Reason/Rhea  - Annoying

Reason proves to be more of a hassle than an ally, which Miles honestly expected. She started off curious, as she followed his every order - he is Memory, the leader of their upcoming group and the one who mysteriously holds all the answers. However, she keeps nagging him, asking time and time again about the what, the how and the why. He avoids her now.

8767364?1645063803 Language/Lann  - Useful but problematic

Miles was fortunate to find Language, Lann, quite fast. This little British boy is fluent in way more languages than he is and his "Aura of Translation" is strong enough for him to stop talking Indonesian for Rhea. However, he can be a disappointment. Due to his reserved nature, his communication skills don't help the group bond much. He'll... develop in due time.

8786017?1651786418 Sense/Saville  - needs to watch over him

Judging by his last incarnation's experience, Sense is someone he should keep watch of. When he eventually finds Saville in France, he is quick to befriend him and take him under his wing, looking at every movement he makes. He... mostly gets high and hides under his blindfold in dark, isolated spaces. Miles joins him often and... has begun to have feelings for him.

14167046?1641255738 Imagination/Inge  - The oxymoron

Inge, this incarnation's Imagination, has aphantasia. So, this is the "oxymoron" of his group. It's imagination, so it wouldn't be all too difficult to get over. Miles finds them having given up on their artistic dreams, which is sad but not impossible to fix with alternative methods of being creative. He doesn't mind them at all, as they are quite quiet.

14223448?1641689194 Faith/Finchley  - Surprisingly powerful

Miles never foresaw the youngest member of his group, Faith, to be one of the most powerful POKs of this incarnation. Finchley is an... "influencer" of a wide range. His phone makes his "motivational" abilities reach a global level, which is... sort of terrifying, like a psychological thriller. What technology can do to a Faith, huh...?

8776134?1653066877 Intuition/Iris  - Helpful

Despite never getting the chance to find her, Iris has been a remarkably helpful asset from the start. Because of her, finding the rest of the group has been a piece of cake. However, he did find it quite curious that she herself was so hard to find. She had to find them instead during his family's "Plan B", the alleged kidnapping.

13377297?1635938257" Emotion/Ema  - Indifferent latecomer

Ema has as little presence as his own emotions; he feels indifferent about her. She arrived late and he couldn't care less, since his family's "Plan B" had already found her and let her revel in the safety of the apartment complex. She is understandably affectionate with the crows and ravens there, which is something he appreciates.
