Personality

• Etienne is disarmingly considerate and accomodating to strangers and people he likes, considering how he looks. If he doesn't like you though, he's sarcastic and stingy
• He acts upbeat and carefree all the time, but sometimes his bitterness, guilt complex, and morbidity manage to peak through anyway. He'll try to play such things off as a joke when he realizes he's doing it. Except maybe for the morbid bits. That has sorta just ended up a solid part of his sense of humor
• Responsible and overprotective, Etienne is hypersensitive to those working under him in the coven, even at the expense of his own deadlines. He feels partly responsible for the high pressure state the coven ended up in, after all :)))
• Loves performing, loves the spotlight, loves the distraction all of it brings, and if he makes other people happy in the process, all the better :3
• All that time in isolation didn't treat him too well and he's a little eccentric because of it. It also caused him to have little to no boundaries when it comes to personal space and he has weirded out more than one person by sitting waaay closer than necessary. He's just a lil lonely and touch-starved, it's fine
• Ruthless to those he hates and thinks deserves a lesson. He's not a fan of fighting, but he's willing to get his hands dirty if he feels he must

History

Etienne was born a long time ago to some poor farmers who were displaced during some idk natural disaster or something and were forced to find somewhere new to settle down with their remaining livestock. Along the way, they passed through a huge bustling city and Etienne was immediately starstruck and drawn in by the glitz and promise of easier living. When this family finally found a new place in the country, Etienne argued with his parents that they should give it up and start a new life in the city instead. When they didn't listen, he decided to prove his point firsthand instead and stole some of their money and set off to make his fortune.

Unfortunately, being a naive dumbass, it didn't take too long to be swindled by some crimelord dude who owned some sort of gambling ring thing and became massively in debt to them. Too ashamed and scared of these dudes to run back home, Etienne was forced to work for them to pay off his debt and got involved in a lot of unpleasant shady things. Eventually during one of his jobs, he met Leraje, a vampire demon who had recently escaped her horrible master, and they ended up commiserating ver their similar circumstances and created a plan to start their own coven that would be waaaay better and awesome and stuff. So, desparate to escape his circumstances and start anew, Etienne willingly became a vampire and turned his attention on breaking up the crime group thing so they couldn't hurt anyone else.

This, uh, went well briefly at least, but eventually Etienne was captured and sealed into some abandoned catacombs since they couldn't figure out how to kill him. He was stuck in there in horrible isolation for around 50 years or so, until a fire witch, Ruby, was also tossed in there for similar reasons and he attacked her out of instinct and ended up turning her in his panic once he regained his senses. Thankfully, the ruckus with Ruby's imprisonment alerted Leraje of the catacombs and she was able to find them and bust them out of there.

Anyway, here's a big timeskip until present day. Leraje's coven grew exponentially and she revanished herself into a big shot talent agent that all of her coven must take part in to keep a steady flow of money and food coming. Etienne in particular became a dark cabaret musician, a style he was enamored with and was genuinely enjoying himself for a while with this!! But then, during this time, Leraje lost herself in her greed and power to the extent that Etienne no longer recognizes her as his former bff and, after a confrontation that sure didn't go very well, Etienne gave up on her but couldn't actually leave since he's still in her thrall as the head vampire, SOOO he is, yet again, kinda stuck with a bad boss and is doing his best to intervene on behalf of the newer vampires so they don't have to deal with her directly since he is still one of the highest ranking vampires in the coven. This somehow managed to take an even worse turn when Leraje discoved some mage who could somehow use two different elements and decided he would be useful to her. Unfortunately, this somehow translated into Etienne being forced to not only turn him but also house him as well in order to protect and teach him and whatever and this has... become the biggest thorn in his side in a long time because this kid absolutely irks him to no end and will not stop needling him about Everything. :) :) :) Thanks, Leraje.
