A cowboy who ran away from home out of frustration and sadness hoping to forget it all and start anew. Kenji wants to be good, he wants people to see him as good too, so when he came across this group with a purpose he thought that maybe, just maybe this could be his chance. So he took it and joined them and left his old life behind. He would forget about it all and maybe finally move on like he wanted. He didn't need him, he could take care of himself.

Magic/Abilities

Kenji is a shapeshifter and thus he can change the entirety of his form or parts of it to be something else. For example he could give himself paws or wings if he wanted to. (Soren is punching the air rn) Like his brother, he can shapeshift to imitate others but he's not as good as him and easily struggles to shift into what he wants or to keep the form for long. He could shift into something unheard of but it has been said that doing so can be risky because in many cases people have attempted this only to permanently stay stuck that way. IMG_5872.png He rarely uses his abilities due to not really understanding how, but overtime he does manage to get a grasp on it.

At a later point in the story, Kenji is able to tap into his spirit-seeing abilities which enables him to see and interact with spirits and ghosts alike. He's still getting the hang of it and will often accidentally activate them without realizing. His pupils become lighter and glow whilst his abilities are active. Fun fact: this ability allows him to see Lilith due to her technically being a spirit.

Demeanor

Kenji's a very optimistic individual and is rarely ever seen in low spirits. He likes to see the positive side of things and always looks for the silver lining in any situation. His laid-back demeanor often masks a deeper complexity. He's constantly seeking meaning and purpose, searching for his place in the world. His carefree facade serves as a shield, protecting him from the weight of his own introspection and the insecurities that sometimes plague him. There's an underlying sense of curiosity and intelligence in Kenji's demeanor. He's not afraid to ask questions or challenge conventional wisdom, always seeking to understand the world and people around him.

Weaknesses

Runs. Kenji likes to…run away from his problems in order to avoid them. It worked before, who’s to say it won’t work again? Not only that, but he also strongly dislikes conflict in general and will do anything to avoid it; even when conflict may occur within the group he avoids and stays out of it. It isn’t exactly the best thing to do especially when he puts his own concerns to the side if it means he can avoid conflict. His compassionate nature and aversion to conflict makes it difficult for him to take assertive action when necessary or to stand up for himself in confrontational situations.

Habits

Kenji has a habit of cherishing and safeguarding the wooden coyote figurine made by his brother and the bandana of his late father. He ensures that they are always within reach or safely stored, rarely parting with them. He likes using his pocket dimension device, frequently accessing it to store or retrieve items, or to seek solitude when he needs time alone to reflect or recharge. He rarely lets others in it, so if he allows someone to join him, then he considers them to be special. He also has a habit of occasionally seeking escapism through distractions or risky behavior, often running away to his pocket dimension or running into some isolated area, causing others to be concerned. This sometimes leads to moments of self-destructive tendencies or a struggle to confront his own emotions and face his past and the growing feeling of guilt that lies within him.

Trivia

  • When Kenji was younger Silas told him something as a joke to mess with him but Kenji took it seriously as a kid and now has fear of mirrors whoops.
  • He can use his tail to hang from somewhere and sleep upside down (strong tail),,,he's done it a couple times.
  • Very fast on his feet and the fastest runner in the group. On that note, he has a lot of stamina and can run for long periods of time.
  • Likes to play with people's hair, especially Lucius's.
  • He can eat most inedible things. How? Idk he built different I guess HAHA
  • Carries a little device that basically gives him access to a little pocket dimension. This was a gift from Silas..who most definitely didn't steal that.
  • He sometimes will find rocks he's come across and keep them in his pouch.
  • Also keeps a little wood-carved figure of a coyote Silas made for him when they were younger in his pouch.
  • Gets nosebleeds when he's out in the heat for too long, he's used to it and just finds them annoying and tries to stay cool if it's hot. Doesn't always work ofc.

Story

So quickly, the years began to pass, and everything was starting to build up and get to him. Unable to cope with the loss of his parents and his own brother becoming distant, he finally cracked and just ran. He left and ran away from home. No one would miss him; it's not like Silas was around enough to even notice anyway. Kenji didn't have a place to go after running away and would find shelter in abandoned buildings, thus forming his love for abandoned places and treating these forgotten spaces like his own home. He loved the peace and tranquility that came with them; he never saw them as places to be afraid of but instead as places to escape from the world.

He continued living like this for quite a while until, when Kenji was 21, he stumbled upon a small group of people traveling on a mission. After chatting with them for a bit, he decided to join them. The group gave him a sense of purpose and belonging that he had been missing since his parents' deaths and Silas's absence. Despite the hardships he faced throughout his life, Kenji finally found a group of people to belong to and felt like he had a purpose. He still dealt with those feelings of loss, but he no longer felt alone in the world. He was beginning to feel like his old self again.

It had been about a month since their passing, and Kenji didn't know how to cope with it on his own. Sure, he had Silas, but not long after they died, he started leaving and returning late, so much so that Kenji began to rarely see his brother around. He spent his days alone in the house, haunted by the silence that resided there. Kenji tried staying up some nights in the hopes he would see his brother, but it never worked; he would always fall asleep. Another day of not seeing him.

There were some rare instances where Silas was home, but he always seemed so out of it and distracted; when Kenji would speak to him, he was just met with short responses that came off as dismissive; he always seemed to have something on his mind. Was whatever he was thinking about really more important than acknowledging his own brother?

Sometimes the others would stop by to check up on him, but even then it wasn't often; they didn't know Silas was out every day, so they didn't stop by all the time. Kenji was growing tired of it; he was still upset over the passing of his parents, but he didn't get the comfort he wanted. He wanted his brother to offer him comfort and make him feel safe. But he never got that.

Another year passed, and it was already Kenji's 7th birthday. It was going well, and the day seemed perfect. They were just preparing the last decorations for his big day when a man appeared at their doorstep. His father went to speak with the man, so Kenji went back to helping his mom with the decorations. Suddenly, without warning, the two of them heard him yell out in pain, and Kenji's eyes widened as he saw his dad lying on the floor unconscious as a pool of blood formed under him. His mom, out of instinct, went over to him but was met with the same fate as the man attacked her and she fell to the floor. Kenji felt frozen as he stood in the corner watching it all happen. Shivers went down his spine when the man's gaze fell upon him, and he crept closer toward the boy.

Kenji felt the man grab him by the collar and shut his eyes, but he felt himself fall as his grip on him released. He opened his eyes to see some sort of beast tackle the man, and the two continued to fight before the attacker finally gave up and fled. Kenji felt even more frightened when the beast looked at him, but he watched as its shape changed into a familiar one; it was Silas. He ran over to Kenji, holding him tightly, and at that moment, Kenji cried as the realization of everything finally hit him—his parents had been killed.

Kenji spent his childhood on the ranch with his family, frequently helping his dad with the chores while his older brother helped their mom. They also had a tight-knit group of family friends who often visited and spent time with them. They all got along, and Kenji considered them to be family too and would often hang out with them when Silas was too busy to play with him.

Kenji loved spending time with his brother as well, and the two were very close, with Silas often looking out for him. The two would love to run around the ranch and chase the animals, despite constantly being told not to. They were just kids having fun, after all. Silas took up the hobby of woodcarving, and Kenji loved watching him turn pieces of wood into little animals and trinkets. It amazed him how someone could turn a piece of wood into a work of art. On Kenji's 6th birthday, Silas gifted him a small wood-carved figurine of a coyote "You can keep it with you to know I'll always be there." And he did; he kept it in the pouch on his belt and never let it leave his side.

While Kenji is usually in good spirits he does have some issues he doesn't really speak about. Kenji's bloodline is well known for doing acts of good, some even calling them "saints". Of course Kenji always felt a big pressure to be great like them and live up to the family name, who wouldn't? He doesn't want to be looked down upon by others, or even worse; ruin the family name after his parents passed, he'd be letting them down. So when he came across the others he saw this as a chance to finally prove himself. Maybe he can truly be good.

Relationships

Lucius

"He acts all intimidating but I could easily tell there was more to him. It did take a bit of a while for him to start opening up again, but he eventually did, and his mask would slip more often revealing his true self. Overall I think he's quite nice."

Kenji found Lucius to be someone that he really wanted to get to know better because he felt that there was more to just him being all serious and stuff. Over time the two grew to become very close friends with each other and spend time a lot together. He likes spending time with the angel even if it just means him sitting next to him and Lucius reads a book.

Soren

"At first, Soren was more open and willing to talk compared to Lucius, so I liked talking to him about thoughts or questions I had on my mind. I think he worries about me sometimes but he's got nothin' to worry about! Although of course he doesn't believe this and says this so he can tag along sometimes. I think he's just covering up the fact he enjoys hanging out with me."

Kenji would bother Soren with a lot of questions from time to time for some reason; and Soren being happy to answer and talk to him about things, he continues. Like Lucius, Kenji likes to drag Soren along with him to go do things, sometimes he'll bring along both of them. He considers Soren to be one of his closest friends :)

Layla

"She's funny, I like hanging out with her and messing with the others. She does sometimes go a little to far with her teasing, at least when it comes to me, but I think she knows that and she makes sure to tone it down when it's directed at me."

Kenji and Layla like to go around and mess around with the others in the group for fun, although she tends to mess with him to tease him especially when it comes to a certain someone. Kenji and Layla got along really well upon meeting each other for the first time and are still really good friends. They're constantly causing trouble and making poor Soren worry too much whoops.

Aster

"I think she's pretty cool, I'd say I look up to her a lot. Oddly enough she's the only who I find a little intimidating but I'm getting used to talking with her now, it's not as difficult as it was before and it's really nice to see her open up."

Kenji was intimidated by her at first honestly and it took a bit of time for the two to start talking to each other. However after something happened, the bond between the two strengthened and they could easily rely on each other if needed. Aster sometimes vents to Kenji about things and he enjoys listening, willing to offer advice or just lend an ear if she needed.

Silas

"You should have been there...where were you when I needed you the most? Gods, I wish I knew what was so much more important to you than caring about me."

When they were younger they got along really well together and would spend a lot of time together. Silas would make Kenji little gifts out of wood, Kenji keeps one of them in his satchel still actually. The two brothers' relationship kind of broke after their parent's death; Silas started to leave home and come back very late eventuallly it got to a point where Kenji rarely ever saw him, and he missed him. He dislikes Silas for that because when he needed him the most he left him alone to deal with his feelings himself instead of comforting Kenji like he needed.

Parents

"I wish I could've done something, anything..."

His parents. Kenji misses them dearly and often blames himself for their deaths. Yeah he was young and really couldn't do anything but he can't help it when the guilt resides in his mind to this day. He was very close to his parents, maybe even closer with his dad but he loved them both the same.
