About
Marble is a bit of an unapologetic bastard - he struggles a lot with social cues and overall prefers to be alone. He was under his father's fairly brutal thumb for a long time as the "golden child." He never stepped in for his younger brother, though did do his best to shield his sister - whom he loves and resents in almost equal measure. He has a very complicated relationship with almost everyone in his family except for his daughter. After Pothos was born, he cut ties with pretty much everyone in his family to protect her and devotes all of his time to being the best father he can be - and eventually, the best partner when Rat came into the picture.
Summary
Background
Marble was the golden child, the eldest son and decent bender. He spent a lot of one-on-one time with his father, and he had... a lot of issues. Marble will be the first to tell you that he was an asshole and a terrible person as a teen and young adult - he lashed out at the world and everyone around him. He didn't protect his brother when his father would hurl abuse at him and turned his gaze away.
Looking back, he was trying to protect himself the best way he knew how in a shitty situation. Even so, he doesn't expect his brother to forgive him or for them to have a relationship as adults.
His one method of rebellion was meeting sometimes, becoming friends, and eventually (accidentally) having a child. Because Feather didn't want to be a parent, she gave their surviving child straight to Marble - and he was instantly head over heels for his tiny daughter.
Pothos existing gave Marble strength he didn't know he had - to cut his dad out of his life and dedicate his time to bettering himself. Every time he looks at Pothos, he can't even imagine subjecting her to anything like what he went through growing up. It's made him realize... a lot of things about his childhood and relationships with his family, honestly.
Playdates with Rat's younger siblings had the two meeting, becoming friends, and eventually... just falling into something. Something that wasn't really sexual, wasn't romantic, but just... was. Pothos considers Rat to be something between a second father-figure and an older brother, Rat never oversteps his bounds when it comes to parenting Pothos, and Marble... well, he's just finally happy. It took him a long time to even realize that surviving wasn't the same as living, but he's living now and it's magnificent.

Trivia
- Marble was one of his brother's backstory characters who were placed up for adoption.
- I ended up just going a bit bananas into childhood trauma and survivor's guilt.
- There was genuinely a period of time after Marble's dad kicked his brother out and the entire family stopped talking about him that Marble just like... assumed his father killed his brother. It wasn't until seeing his brother alive that he realized that didn't happen, but he was 100% convinced his dad literally murdered his brother. That does things to a kid.
- Marble loves his sister. He does. But she went very wallflower to protect herself, making herself small and not the target. There's part of him that resents her for it, even as there's a part of him that does think she's weak and in need of protection. Their relationship is a bit toxic tbh.
Related
Pothos is the center of Marble's world and the light of his life. She has him wrapped around his little finger and she knows it - despite that though, she rarely takes advantage of it. They're very close and love each other a lot.
Rat and Marble just kind of... fell together. Two habitual loners pushed together by circumstance and family who just realized that they clicked well together. Rat is very important to Marble, and he treasures their time together dearly.
