Design Notes

  • She is my comfort dumbass, and I will literally never get tired of seeing her in memes.
  • Mica has a long-running inability to keep her clothes clean/un-ripped.
  • She constantly gets injured, due to her impulsive, reckless tendencies. Band-Aids are her constant, undying companions.
  • She has a muscular, athletic body type, with emphasis on her upper body. I use a combination of Mermista and Scorpia as reference; she's not as muscular as Scorpia but still has a bit of bulk.
  • She has a safety pin earring! Artfight user blesseddruid came up with this, and I've kept it ever since!
  • Mica's hair is silver at her roots, signifying her current power level. At her current age, she's got a solid grey base, but once she's in her 20's, she's silver as HECK.

Personality

""So, what happens now? You talk first, I talk first? Foghorn cuts you off again?"

Mica Storm is a reckless, impulsive, talented metalbender with a penchant for bad ideas and worse puns. She has an unfortunite habit of acting before she thinks, and has yet to resist the temptation of making situations worse by throwing herself directly at villains. Due to her estranged relationship with her family, she's well-versed in getting out of bad situations by herself, and tends to forget that she doesn't have to handle things on her own anymore. Despite her reservations toward joining the Hellions, a ragtag group of newbie heroes, she quickly became a staunch ally and loyal member of the team.

Story

Mica was born to award-winning soap opera actress Vidia Storm (nee Sterling) and multi-corporational magnate (and closet supervillain) Magnus Storm. Her twin sister, Vesper, inherited their father's demi-godesque legacy superpower upon their his death, while Mica inherited their mother's less-grandiose, but still potent metalbending abilites. Her adolescence was, if not wholly lonely, an isolating one. While Vesper was trained by their older, powerless, brother Alistair, Mica was left to her own devices as she grew up. Except when Vesper snuck out to play MarioKart.

She tried, repeatedly, to gain the family's attention, but her attempts were met with general indifference, and occasional annoyance. Upon her sister's destructve debut as the newest iteration of 'Zephyrus', Mica donned the pseudonym of 'Metallica'. (She has been, miraculously, not sued as of yet.)  After her older brother sent Phoenix, one of Storm Industries' silent associates, to discourage Mica from dishonoring the family name with her untested abilities, she was badly injured and taken in by her aunt, Imogen.

Imogen, along with her two children, aspiring architect Harley and comic book artist Kane (and their dog, Ketchup!) became Mica's most enthusiastic supporters and pushed her towards, if not heroism, something more constructive than all-out destruction.

It was a result of this good influence (and spite against Phoenix. It was mostly spite against Phoenix) that led Mica to attempt foiling one of her plans with the help of friends from school, Katie Jimenez ('Solaris') and Nocturne Jimenez (now Penumbra). Together, they, and a newly-conscious robot, the Preeminent, managed to foil Phoenix's plans and save the surrounding buildings from a sudden, and exceedingly lava-y demise. The three formed a small superhero alliance, that would later be known as the Hellions- and later include Vesper Storm herself.

The Hellions

Twin sister, demi-god, and the heir to the Zephyrus legacy. Wears really, really expensive clothes and ends every two sentences with 'tch'.

As a result of inheriting their bloodline's demi-godesuque abilities- and thus, supervillainous legacy, Vesper was forced to carry on the mantle of 'Zephyrus', and the expectations that came along with it. While Mica was left to her own devices throughout her formative years, Vesper was trained- physically, mentally- leaving little time for anything deemed 'secular' by their manipulative brother, Alastair. (He's a dick, we all hate Al in this household.) Despite this, Mica ensured that Vesper- whether she like it or not- made the time for the simple joys of life- like Depression McDonalds and a near encyclopedic knowledge of the social media phenomenon 'Vine.' ("Road work ahead?" *long sigh* "Yeah, I sure hope it does.")

As Zephyrus's escapades escalated over the years, Mica's continually worked to undermine her plans however able- including blaring rock music at prime plotting hours. She may be past the point where she can interfere in any meaningful way against the sheer magnitude of her sister's destruction- but she refuses to believe Vesper's too far gone to join the 'good guys'.

The only thing she's not trusted with is reheating the McDonalds. She set the fries on fire.

After cutting ties with her former supramundane clique (and villainous past) at school, Mica was faced with constant belittlement and underhanded bullying at the hands of her peers. The Storm name held enough weight to spare her from outright threats or obvious injury, but it still didn't stop people from taking shots at her, particularly during soccer matches after school. So it meant everything when a stranger- someone Mica had only seen in the hallways between classes- stood up for her. Initially suspicious about Katie's intent, Mica continued to watch her ally,  first from afar, then by inviting her to sit with her during class or to do homework after school. What she ultimately discovered was not a scheme to betray her, or an attempt to get favors from the Storm name- but that Katie had simply cared in that moment enough to stand up for Mica, risking not only outing her abilities, but  her own social status in school as well.

It may have been a small moment for Katie, who, Mica would learn, was no stranger to vigilantism of her own - but it became one of Mica's earliest definitions of what being a hero meant. Their friendship grew from there, and Mica found a kindred spirit in Katie's quiet snark, enthusiasm for improvisation- and her commitment to naming team formations and power combinations during battle. (BEACH DAY LET'S FRICKIN GO-). Through the chaos and drama, they've remained close friends- and Mica hopes to one day be the hero Katie's continued to be.

Partners in crime to on and off again allies, united for... more crime. Occasionally.

Mica and Penumbra (formerly Nocturne) were close in high school, and often caused trouble worked together even before they ended up on the hero team 'the Hellions'. Penumbra understood what it was like to feel inferior, especially in one’s family, didn’t judge her for her questionable past, and, most importantly, didn’t tell anyone when Mica took up knitting in secret, not even Katie.  (It was touch-and-go for a while, but they managed to convince her that they’d been frequenting the farmer’s market and found a particular vendor that custom made things for Noct.)  Additionally, she was was one of the first people to know about Mica's alter ego, 'Metallica', and even helped her move out of her emotionally abusive household when she was a teen. Together, the two braved the early days of the Hellions, and learned to navigate the complications of supramundane politics (and also highschool) together.

Unfortunately, after miscommunication, a past betrayal that resulted in physical scars that healed and emotional ones that didn't- and general distrust of the Storms that continued to grow- the two drifted apart. Mica still cares about Penumbra, and wants to see her happy- but also understands that future may not be hers to share at this point.

“I’ve only known Em for a day and a half, but if anything happened to her, I would kill everyone in this room and then myself.”

Mica's a little bit envious of Em's ability to experience life from a place of naivety, but also is very protective of her- especially against the influence of Storm Industries, or anyone else who could potentially seek to control her. She wants Em to have the stereotypically 'teen' experiences that she herself never got to experience- and will go out of her way to take Em shopping at the mall or other "important missions" technically unsanctioned by A.E.G.I.S. Sure, neither of them really know what to do when they get there, but it's the thought, Mica hopes, that counts. Em embodies enthusiasm and childlike wonder, and though Mica doesn't know how to express it- she's deeply grateful for the glimpses of a different world that she's seen through the robot's eyes.

Despite Mica's teasing, she approves and supports Em's budding relationship with Vesper. Despite her reservations, she wants to believe that the two will be the balance that they both need in order to survive their respective environments- and that Em, perhaps, can be the push that Vesper so desperately needs to leave Storm Industries for once and for all.

Now, just to keep Em away from Al.....

She’s only got one name. Like Rhianna, P!nk, or Beyoncé. That‘s dope as fu-

Demi-gods? Twins who trade bodies? An actual robot? Sure, that's an everyday occurrence. But DEMONS? (Other than her own family members, that is?) That's insanely  cool.  Mica's incredibly enthusiastic about getting to know Matil, and has a lot of questions about the way the Netherworld, her home world of origin, functions.

Sometimes, said enthusiasm takes the form of texting Matil rat pictures and asking 'ARE THEY DEMONS TOO?’, and other times it takes the form of asking Matil to try ratatouille for.. no particular reason, actually- why do you ask? But she's genuinely excited to have Matil on her team- and does her best to not pressure her into talking too much about her home, or family- both of which seem to be touchy subjects from time to time.

Also, Matil has a strange was of knowing what people are thinking sometimes? Definitely nothing worth looking into….
