Some would call Jasper a rebel without a cause, others call him some quasi-Robin Hood. Whatever you call him, he revels in the glory equally. A bit of a trickster but likeable nonetheless, he always can come up with a solution to everything (though whether he follows through with it is another story). He find himself bored by the school system but endlessly invested in everything else, smelling good opportunities a mile away and leaping from one idea to the next. He does enjoy pushing people's buttons and pressing endlessly into their space, which obviously doesn't always go well all the time.
Jasper was never an orderly kid: if anything, he was the one who spent a lot of his time redefining the rules. Charming, quick-thinking and intelligent, he always made sure he was two steps ahead of everyone else. But there was a reason for that - he was constantly afraid that he would get preyed upon. As a kid from the slums, it was all too easy to become the prey, and only the toughest could survive. He spent most of it being picked on by people who were much larger and tougher than him. In the end, he had to don his armour, and needed to use his wits to come back home without patchy bruises and salted tears. Although by the time his sister Sapphire was born they managed to leave that situation, his sort of quick-wittedness had remained. Dipping his toes into every pool but never allowing himself to be submerged, he survived as the wild rebel mindfucker who seemed to know a little bit of everything. Under a show of brilliance and jokes, he churns out line after line and you don’t even realise something’s wrong. Though there was nothing terribly wrong with his childhood, they rarely, if ever, opened up about themselves, preferring to stay in the world of bouncing ideas and possibilities than to face the truth and insecurities. But because of this eagerness to jump around, to never settle for anything, he sometimes wonders who he actually is, rather than just a jumbled caricature of what will win the most people over and keep him from losing control.
For all things meme-culture and hip with the kids, Yuzu turns to Jasper (a huge mistake to begin with), who more often than not plays practical pranks on poor Yuzu. Even then, they remain decent friends because once they stop bloody butting their heads together or participating in some roastfest, Yuzu and Jasper can work relatively well together, provided that Jasper doens't flake and Yuzu doesn't automatically dismiss Jasper's outlandish ideas as "stupid" because Jasper is the ideas man, and Yuzu executes.
The "hypotheticals" arguments between these two are insane - which of these two buildings would win in a fight? Do giraffes wear their pants like this or like this? It's usually all friendly, but more often than not Jasper doesn't actually share his opinions and just goes against Hel "just for lols". Demiboy-demigirl solidarity. Will go to art museums to either make actually good analyses or to make fun of some abstract works.
Oh look, it's team Bully Yuzu (but in a friendly kind of way)! Nashi, being their sister, drops all the tea onto Jasper who spins it into the most cleverly-targeted jab ever. They call each other "babygirl" ironically. Nashi's scootering with Jasper down dark alleyways whilst Yuka is being a good boy and sleeping. Pranksters and childish pyromaniacs. Free-spirited nutcases.
Both love to escape to the outdoors and take spontaneous hikes - Jasper talks, Kayan listens. Often they like to go without maps - if they get lost, it's an adventure to get back (and a good challenge, and all the more reason to delay heading back.) Jasper often sets unrealistic projects for Kayan to make with wood and Kayan - hating to be one to disappoint - will keep experimenting until he gets it right.
