Sir Percival Douglas Scarletwing! Baronet! An idiot fop, with nothing on the mind but clothing, Welquine racing, fine arts, fine dining and his family. He won't shut up about those things once he gets started. Which is a shame, because he is very annoying to listen to, with a slow and dimwitted tone in his voice and an inane laugh.

That's at least what he is on the surface. But there is more to him. When he is not spending time just being a rich idiot, he leads a league of his friends, to help rescue people who have gotten in trouble with Little Nightsovania's mafia, snatching as many as they can from their paws and relocating them to mainland Mahou Wando to start anew. It's very dangerous work, that requires someone with bravery, brains, impeccable fighting and leadership skills, as well as a lot of cunning wit.

Things that nobody would ever suspect Sir Percy of possessing even in the slightest!

He has slowed down slightly as of late. He does have a family to look after, after all. His beloved wife Justice is already more tangled in the complicated web that is his secret identity and his run-ins with the criminal underworld of Lil Nights. He does not want his daughter to be part of that any time soon.

Persona

"Odd's fish, m'dear! The man can't even tie his own cravat!"

Many people would describe Sir Percival as a nitwit, a spoiled and lazy nobleman who has never known a day of hard work or strife in his entire vain and useless life. His spot on the noble council as Lil'Nights Baronet of Style mostly wasted on him, were it not for the fact that he is actually very talented when it comes to fashion (this being the only thing he is good at) and that he is rather pleasant to be around, as long as his stupidity does not start getting on people's nerves. And that is precisely what he wants people to think. It is a carefully crafted act, that he has been putting up, pretty much since he was a small child. It is second nature to him, and he has a lot of fun playing pretend. It helps keep his identity as The Blood Red Poppy a secret (who would possibly suspect an idiot like Sir Percy of such great deeds?), and it allows him to carefully pick and choose who gets to be close to him.

Behind the facade, Sir Percy is an incredibly bright man, who has gathered a great deal of knowledge both from exploring his family's library and from all of the experience being The Poppy has given him. He is a natural leader, with a great deal of charm and charisma, and he takes this very seriously, unwilling to accept risks that could put those who follow him in unnecessary danger. He is brave and tenacious, perhaps at times to a fault, since these traits often just mean he refuses to give up on a cause, it has led him to take on risks that put himself in danger, especially if he has not been feeling his best, and left him to the whims of his desires, not merely do what is right, but also for excitement and adrenaline. Very few people know about this side of Sir Percy, but those that do have a great deal of respect for him, and trust in his skills and his wits to lead him through whatever life may throw at him.

Traits

Aesthetic tinkering

Scarletwing Skills:

The signature skill of the Scarletwings! While this has often been used as a way to design outfits of unparalleled beauty the current head of the Scarletwing family has found a different use for it. His knowledge of aesthetics, what looks right and what doesn’t, allows him to make disguises that perfectly blend in with the environment. People see him, but they don’t notice him, because he does not stick out. He does indeed also use it for fashion purposes, absolutely. If something is off about your choice of colour, fabric or cravat, Percy will notice immediately and he WILL comment on it.

Swordplay

Touché:

Sir Percy has been trained in the art of the blade since he was just a child, and it shows. Elegant, fast and precise, Percival is often so much in control of the duels he takes part in, that he can have some fun with it, toying with his opponents while keeping an air of aloofness to him, as if it is all just a game to him.

Planning

Forethought:

The thing that is by far the most important tool at Percy's disposal in his Blood Red Poppy escapades, is his ability to make plans. He makes it look quite easy at times, but he often spends days, if not weeks or months, gathering information, making his own observations and trying to make sure he hasn't overlooked anything that could be a problem later. The results are plans that, if followed to the letter, are as good as foolproof. They are often bold and daring too, as Percy can never quite resist having a bit of fun with foiling the plans of his enemies.

Quick thinking

Think fast!:

If his plans do go wrong, which they sometimes do, that is just how things are, Percy is also skilled at thinking on his feet, and he is not one to go down without a fight, even when the odds are stacked against him. If there is a way through a crisis, Percy WILL find it with what is available to him, and he is not afraid to adapt to change.

Welquine riding

Horse power:

Percy is an excellent rider, and he has a great amount of knowledge about welquine. He is the fastest among the rest of his covenmates, and his speed and skill have gotten him out of troublesome situations more than once.

Story

ORIGIN

Young Percival Douglas Scarletwing did not have the easiest time growing up. His first years were blissful, with loving parents and everything a young child could ever possibly want. But then his mother got ill. Very ill. Not only could she not look after Percy anymore as she got weaker and was left bedridden, but as she got weaker, Percy's father began to spend more and more of his time tending to his wife, and the time and patience he had for his young son became increasingly limited. The young boy did his best to take things in stride. Being an observant and clever child, he tried to fix things by being as cheery and outgoing as possible, putting on a bit of a foolish facade, hoping that could bring some light to his increasingly gloomy household. But alas. Cheeriness does not cure diseases, and Percy's mother would pass from her illness. His father was wrought with grief after losing his beloved wife, and Percy watched him become a mere husk of what he once was, as he isolated himself and attempted to dull the pain with alcohol. This, of course, had a profoundly negative effect on his health, and at the age of 10, Percy would be watching his second parent be placed in the family mausoleum. He was now the head of the Scarletwing family and was left to be raised by the staff.

RECOVERY

From one day to the other, Percy's cheery demeanour changed. He became quiet, often just staring at the other children in Moonfang Academy with big blue eyes from a distance. Or he'd barge into their games, having decided that he was now the hero of their game, here to save the day. It culminated when, after having been provoked by insults thrown at him and his late parents, Percy was challenged to a duel by a fellow student, which ended with Percy wounding the other student quite badly. It had been an accident, but that was the final straw. Seeing that the young boy was clearly not doing well, the family butler made it so Percy was sent to Wahou Island, to get some distance from everything and have time to heal and better deal with his own grief through therapy. He returned to mainland Mahou Wando a year later, having seemingly gone back to the outgoing and happy, if a rather foolish and foppish, child that he used to be.

THE BLOOD RED POPPY

Percy would keep this behaviour up for years. He was, as he had always been, an incredibly observant and clever young man, but he found it far more interesting and entertaining to pretend to be nothing more than an idiot who only cared for fashion and welquine (two things he very much does care about a lot). You hear many things, when people assume you are too dumb to understand what they are saying. He was quite content with this life until he began to take notice of something... A mafia family known as The Guillotinetails had begun to kidnap and murder members of the bunbat nobility. At first, he tried to ignore it, leaving it up to those better suited to deal with crimes. But eventually, he could not ignore it anymore. Something had to be done, and he couldn't sit idly by and watch his peers vanish, never to be seen alive again. After a meeting with his coven, he formed a secret identity. In his daily life, he was still Sir Percival Scarletwing, Baronet, the foppish, brainless nobleman. But now he would also be The Blood Red Poppy, a bold, mysterious figure, who rescued those captured by the mafia, bringing them back safely with his clever, daring plans.

JUSTICE

For a long while, his escapades as the Blood Red Poppy were uncontested the most important part of his life. Until he met Justice Marigold Saint Light. It was a chance meeting. She was an actress and he had wished to see a play. The moment he saw her walk out on stage, Percival Scarletwing was a lost cause. He would not get to properly meet her for 3 years, but during those years, the beautiful actress did not leave his thoughts, and as soon as he was able to do so, he returned to the theatre to see her perform again. And this time he would be sure to rendezvous with her. The love seemed to be mutual at first sight, and their whirlwind romance only had a courting phase of a year, before the two married. Percival was happier than he had ever been before during that time. Right up until the wedding. Anyone close to Sir Percy would tell you that something changed during his wedding party... But only those who were the very closest would know exactly what that change was.

THE RIDDLE

What had happened during that day that should have been one of the most joyous of his whole life, was that Percy had received word that his dear beloved wife, had been involved with none other than the Guilltinetail family, and had helped them catch someone who was going against them. Percy kept up his facade of foppish brainlessness through this, but now he was doing it to Justice as well, worried that she was part of the very thing he was fighting. This mistrust lasted for about a year, as both Percy and Justice, while both still very much in love with each other, were also both very stubborn and proud, and neither wanted to be the one to open up a conversation. However, despite the efforts of their own pride, as well as the man known as Silvain Chaunceler Guillotinetail, the two managed to overcome the rift that had formed between them.

FAMILY LIFE

While he has not cast the title and responsibility of The Blood Red Poppy aside, Sir Percy now has a family that he focuses on more. He has his dear wife, obviously, but he also has a daughter, his darling Emilienne. And he is very much aware that putting himself in too much danger could have consequences for those two. He is firm on not being like his own father. He wants to make sure that his daughter knows she is loved. He wants her to grow up safe and happy. He wants to spend time with his dearest Justice and be there for her when she needs him. But he can't just stop doing what he feels is right, what he feels he has a duty to do. One day he will probably have to quit, but for now, he keeps going, unwilling (or perhaps unable) to stop.
