Biography
John was born as an only child of an ordinary working-class family. His parents divorced shortly after his birth and he and his mom immigrated to the UK when he was a young child. Being a single parent Mrs Liú always tried her best to give her son a good life.
Growing up under the influences of two vastly different cultures and with a parent that was often absent due to work, John had to learn early on what it meant to be independent. Being a cheerful and inquisitive child he had no issue - essentially - raising himself. And whenever mother and son did spend time together, they would cook - from getting the ingredients to preparing the meal.
As soon as John finished high school, he started training as a professional cook. However, the busy life of his apprenticeship wasn’t what he imagined and wore him down pretty quickly - so he quit. Instead, he started working as a bartender in a high-end restaurant. Due to the clientele, the job was slower - and the tips much higher.

Lynn is a good friend of John. They met through Lynn and Fennas dating - John enjoyed Lynn’s company from the get-go.
Thea Uba
Thea is a good friend of John. They met through Lynn and Fennas dating and it instantly clicked between them, when they first met. Due to them both having immigrant parents, and growing up torn between two cultures, the two have developed a strong friendship.
Fennas Dunne
Fennas is John’s roommate. They have been living together since Fennas moved out of his family home. From the moment they met, it was clear, that they would get along great and the two have established an uncomplicated co-existence. John is glad about Fennas’s tolerance, while Fennas appreciates how cautious John is in regard to leaving him his personal space.

Moving to the UK Jún Dé got a westernized name (John). Nowadays, only his mother and Thea call him by his Chinese name.
John stole Fennas's mobile phone once to change Victor's address list name to "hot exchange student Russian crush." He couldn’t stand the neverending pining and knew Fennas needed an obvious hint.
Food is the only thing Fennas and John regularly argue about. Fennas doesn’t enjoy cooking much and consequently, isn’t very good at it - often relying on processed foods because it’s quick and easy. In contrast, John is a talented amateur chef and hates every type of convenience food - knowing of its negative health consequences.
Thea and John regularly cook together. John wants to learn more about Thea’s culture (cooking- / foodwise), and Thea is more than happy to share her knowledge with him. In return, he shares his traditional / family recipes with her.
During his apprenticeship, John started taking ecstasy. Since he quit he reduced his consumption - but hasn’t stopped. One time he couldn’t pay his dealer and they followed him home, keeping him hostage until Fennas coincidentally came home and paid them off.
On one of his shifts, John met a German businessman. The two began an affair that lasts to this day.
