Ruth is, relatively speaking, kind of an odd person, while not particularly shy she often doesn't speak, or rather chooses not to because she believes incredibly strongly in the saying "Actions speak louder than words"; in fact she's so dedicated to it that she taught herself ASL so she wouldn't have to talk as much, and while she's not fluent in it by a long way, she knows enough for her day-to-day needs. She doesn't use it in public though because she doesn't want to be mis-labelled as deaf. Similarly, as her quote implies, she looks fairly androgynous, but surprisingly this doesn't really bother her, what does however is other people thinking that it does.
Another weird thing about her at first is that her cold resistance is pretty good, but her heat resistance is equally bad. As you might be able to tell from her icon, she blushes like she's hot all the time, and when she's actually hot her whole face goes as red as her shirt, plus on top of that her skin tans incredibly quickly. These are references to two things, the first being because her element is named after a area in Eastern Europe called Ruthenia, part of which is now in Russia and Russia is usually cold, and the second is because the compound her shirt is based on absorbs UV light, which as you might know is what causes tanning. Finally, as ruthenium is used in pens she loves reading and writing, especially novels, penning them whenever she finds the time and reading others' when she's not doing that, with her favourite one being this (which is another reason her cold resistance is good).
