5989529_HQ0AWYIMTuynzPb.pngPhysical Description...

Pilirani is a naturally proud, noble jader, full of energy and spirit. He is a feral, both in heart and in coat; never content to sit around and be pet and pampered for very long. Pilirani is rarely, if ever not on the move, and only pauses when his attention is held by something interesting. Usually that something is shiny, or speedy, or intellectually intriguing.

Pili is a very tall, lithe jader, built more like a dhol'kai than his dire wolf ancestors; running sings in his blood. His handsome hide is covered in rich red blotches earned from Penumbra's family, speckled with fallow spots from Willow's heritage. He holds himself tall, and his gait is light and airy. He can carry on at a steady lope for many hours. His eyes are bright blue and clear enough to see through simple deceptions. Perhaps the few drops of Imperial blood in his veins allows such clarity.

Around his neck Pilirani wears a blue collar with bells attached, that jingle sweetly wherever he trods, alerting his prescence to all around him. Should one lose sight of Pili in the long grass, or over the horizon questing a jackalope, one need merely follow the sound of the bells. On more than one occasion, he has helped to lead a person out of harm's way, by the sound of his bells. Pilirani wears his collar as a mark of pride, that he may never fear to make his prescene known to any person or creature in Eldemore.

While may look strong, and soild as a rock, deep down Pillirani is extremely squishable. Like does this puppoe even have bones? When you pick him up he just goes all floppy and boneless, and if you sit on him he makes soft adorable squeaky noises. Willow first discovered this when Pili was a pup, and it's a trait that seems to have survived until adulthood. All tall and noble and proud, until you sit on him, and he becomes a squeaky bean bag chair.

Pilirani is a great explorer, collector, and diplomat. He's never more at home than when he is at work, scouting for surveying expeditions, driving off ligers and ursas, collecting obscure bits of knowledge, and navigating the cultures and traditions of new and exciting places. At heart he's a poet, and prone to get carried away by his thoughts. His mother Riddle is to blame for this trait, though she doesn't know it. Pili was always striving to understand her cryptic mannerisms, and began seeking out patterns in everything around him. He doesn't always see things the way others see them at first glance, and when he does, he finds new ways of challenging his own interpretations.

Pilirani is an outdoors-dog. He can't stand being cooped up inside cities, preferring the open deserts and airy tents and pavilions of the wolfkin clans, or the spacious grasslands where he can see for miles. There's noting so wonderful as being able to see the open wilderness stretching to the horizon, and knowing you can flat out run over the edge of it. Pilirani's a runner, and nearly anything will set him off sprinting – a jackalope in the distance, a herd of elkrin, even just the feel of a warm breeze through his fur will send him off. His heart is never so happy as when he's running; if only his body didn't need sleep he's probably keep running forever. His mothers, especially Willow instilled in him a sense of boldness – there is nary a challenge or obstacle he's not ready and willing to meet. So long as you believe it, there is nothing you can't accomplish. When Pili sets his mind to something he goes in with his whole heart, and though he might fail, again and again, he holds fast to his integrity and sets out with a new plan and a new dose of determination.

This Oriental Jader is also very proud of who his is; both his heritage and his self. He holds himself to a very high standard, which he sometimes struggles to maintain. It's clear to most who meet him however, that Pili is very much in command of himself, though this mastery came at a price. He is a thoughtful jader, an invert who enjoys his self-reflection time. He is extremely polite and courteous to those he meets, and even among his friends and family retains a rigidity that some see as aloof, but which Pili sees as merely respectful. He is not a boisterous jader, but while it may take him a while to conclude them, he's not afraid to make his opinions known, especially with his close friends. He loves a good game or a joke as much as the next jader; in fact he's well known for running a gag a little too far. Like the whole Willow using him as a pillow thing – he still gets a kick out of it whenever it's brought up.

Some might call Pili a hoarder, but he prefers to be called a 'collector'. He loves to collect all sorts of things, both tangible and abstract. Butterflies, knick-knacks, colorful stones and shed antlers being among his favorite tangible collection interests. Not being one to settle down though, Pili's collections tend to get lost. Whenever possible he tries to foist his prized possessions on his siblings, either as gifts or leaving them in their houses and forgetting to tell them. He once left a cursed liger statuette in Riddle's house which resulted in a hilarious string of events, which Pili is not at liberty to divulge. The real treasure for Pilirani though, lies in the other things he collects – knowledge, folk stories, riddles, poetry, people and places. He loves to share these things with others, and often recounts the stories and songs he's learned. These things all contribute to the ever elusive Truth of things, and fuel Pili's own muse for his poems. He loves to learn about other jaders and their humans' stories, and has a deep fascination for other cultures.

Pili is a very dedicated jader, and when something gets in his head, he can't shake it. If there's a quest to be done, or a friend in need, or a truth unknown it eats away at him like a pack of hungry fleas, and he needs to scratch it. He becomes easily obsessed, especially while on an expedition. If he's not making progress in his latest obsession he will egg on his companions with unflagging excitement, bubbling and bouncing like a year-old pup. He can often lose track of the bigger picture, pressing on despite being unprepared. Often he relies on his companions to jolt him back to reality when necessary, and encouraging him to pursue his dreams but to pursue them the right way. In this, his family is most helpful. Willow always encourages him to plow ahead, Riddle advises he slow up and keep his head, and Penny reminds him to always consider those around him.

Pilirani lives by his own code of honor, and he holds himself very highly to it. He is always respectful, hospitable, polite and helpful. He treats his enemies as well as he treats his friends, and argues with reason when passions grow hot. Pilirani is a gentleman's jader; never does he step ahead, nor run behind, but he walks beside, whether it be into certain danger or new adventure. He is a stubborn pacifist and will never raise a paw except to defend those weaker than himself. His cool head in the midst of conflict, and ability to keep an open mind and heart make him a natural mediator. Whereever he goes, the jingle of bells signals that he has nothing to hide, least of all himself. He walks openly and proudly; where other predators and unfriendly forces hide thier passage, he takes the field with tail awag. He knows that violence is inevitable in a world that survives on violence, but he does all he can to find peaceful solutions, and will always take the route that leads to the least amount of suffering. That said, Pili has no qualms with jaders or other creatures who do fight and kill, and in fact often participates in hunts. He is a runner though, and only knows to chase and hold prey, not to bite or kill it. He tries to treat all others, even prey with a sense of dignity, even the very silly or annoying ones. He strives above all else, to remain 'in the middle of the river' between two sides. It's not the most comfortable postion, but it does afford the clearest view. Even when Pili does take sides, he only does so when he has gathered all the knowledge he can, and feels confident that his choice is right. There is no rushing him on this aspect. He might be seen as having a 'holier than thou' attitude, but Pili is always reevaluating his own morals. He sometimes doesn't understand that being honorable doesn't always mean being good – it certainly doesn't always make one right, and to be good sometimes one must challenge one's own beliefs.

Penumbra

[ mother ] Piliani has always felt a special connection to his mother Penumbra. As a pup he'd always nag her to tell him stories of his grandfathers and her clan, and would sit enraptured whenever she spoke. He greatly admires her, and always strives to follow the morals she taught him as a pup.

1359350?

Willow

[ mother ] Willow's always been the fun mom, and taught Pilirani to have no fear, least of all of bring sat on. All through his puppyhoood Pilli - referred to as Pillow by Willow, much to his other mothers' consternation - would serve as Willow's cushion whom she would sit her rump upon. She tried this on all the puppies, but Pili was her favorite. Even as an adult at family reunions she continues to sit on him. Pili doesn't mind, even when his siblings join in on the dog pile. Truth be told, he always liked the special attention.

1359289?1515037410

Riddle

[ mother ] He's always had a great deal of respect for Momma Riddle, though he's always felt she's somewhat aloof. As a pup, he always felt a bit intimated of her, but now that he's older he sees that she had a lot of influence on him growing up - not least because she was usually the one to pull him out from under Willow when supper time came. Now he appreciates all the riddles she tried out on him, and enjoys the challenge of solving them himself.

Alba

[ siser ] Pilirani loves Alba, and has always felt a bit protective of her. She's also a great snuggle buddy, being not nearly so prickly as Labyrinth.

1652185?1515036405

Labyrinth

[ sister ] Pilirani loves Rinth dearly. Growing up she was always his racing buddy. He is always there to calm her down when she gets in a huff. Rinth is a bit of a blind spot in Pilirani's sense of integrity, in that he's normally inclined to take her side in arguments, or at least deflect enough to appear that he does, including her feelings on domestic jaders. He sympathizes with her.

1491714?1510465143

Tad

[ foil ] A colorful, if rather crude jader. Pilirani does not approve of his brawling, bumbling ways, but Tad's at heart a sweet, reliable - if exceedingly dense - colleague. A good man to have in a spot, but hardly one you'd take to the coffee house.

2038256?

Rori

[ friend ] Pili's racing partner is Rori, a lovely spaniel jader. Whenever he's in the area he's sure to stop in on her. She's always up for a racing challenge, or a bit of local exploration. The two of them take their racing competitions seriously, with plenty of bets and playful 'trash talk'. While he'll never go easy on her in a race, he's always sure to let her win her little tackle games and sit on him - he's a gentleman in that way.

Albiorix

[ former mentor/rival ] A stern, no-nonsense dire wolf who lead Pilirani's first expedition. Pili always looked up to him for guidance, and respected his authority. But Albiorix was a cruel wolf, who had no patience for an untrained jader, and when that jader tried to argue reasonably with him, Albiorix lashed out at him. Pili now understands that Albiorix was a toxic influence on his life, and has cut him from it, but he will always have great respect for the wolf and what he taught him.

Pillirani means "persevere, endure" in Chewa

Pili's theme songs are "The Ghost and the Darkness Theme" and the title music for "Masada", both of which are composed by Jerry Goldsmith

Pili absolutly adores studying insects, paticularly butterflies

Pili has three mothers, two sisters, and sixteen half siblings

Pilirani's jingle collar was a gift from Momma Riddle; even if he doesn't have her husky blood, he'll always carry a part of her

Pilirani's character takes inspiration from Sir Richard Francis Burton, British explorer, geographer, translator, poet and diplomat; as well as several of his contemporaries

5989726_ZS2jA321O3zHMnH.png" You are like the Wind and I Like the Lion.
You form the tempest, The sand stings my eyes and the ground is parched.
I roar in defiance but you do not hear.
But between us there is a difference.

I, like the Lion must remain in my place,
but you like the wind, will never know yours.

As a pup Pilirani was always very rolly polly and squishable, and Willow liked to use him as a pillow. His two other mothers, Penny and Riddle would often have to rescue him from under her come mealtime. He loved tousling with all his siblings. He was a born runner, and would love nothing more than to challenge his siblings to races. His momma Willow; who, let's just say was from the wrong side of town, often let him tag along, and Pilirani was quite a pest to the local jackalope races - diving in to chase the hapless hoppers.

When he grew into a young and restless youth, Pilirani followed his mother Willow to a man named Falk, a purveyor of creatures. From there he was sold as a hunting dog to the ranks of a man named Captain Aciaius Roscoe, on an expedition upriver to seek out a rumored gold ore. The adventure filled Pilirani with a new sense of purpose and wonder. He would never lose his taste for travel. Captain Aciaius was himself a dire wolf man, but with Oblivion's Curse affecting the magical wolves, it was deemed safer to bring along jaders for the hunting and tracking. The small group of men and women would set off up stream, the humans commanded by Captain Aciaius, the jaders by the captain's bonded Black Dire Wolf named Albiorix.

Albrorix was stern, aloof wolf, who didn't care for jaders. He would run them ragged in the hunts, especially Pilirani. At the time Pilirani had never hunted before, nor had he ever left home, and everything was new and exciting to the young canine. He would run ahead of the hunting party, getting lost, or scaring away prey – both things the old wolf did not tolerate. Though the punishments were cruel, Pilirani soon learned to keep in line, and from watching and studying the great wolf he learned to hunt and hold his prey as well as any jader.

The expedition was barely underway when the boat was wrecked on a sandbar and the party had to continue on foot into the wilderness. Out there they found it necessary for survival to depend on one another, human and animal alike. During a hunt Pilirani got distracted and wandered into a forgotten ruin where dwelt a massive basilisk. He had to be rescued by his fellows, and in the fighting, one of the jaders took a bite. She passed away soon afterward, and it was a mistake Albiorix made sure Pilirani would not forget.

They pressed onwards through many dangers, the group eventually splitting – one to go back with the sick and injured, the rest to press onwards. This left only Pilirani and Albiorix as the only canines in the group. Despite the wolf's aloofness, Pilirani turned to him for guidance. The dire was only interested in Pilirani so far as he could use him, but despite that Pili came to have a great deal of respect for the old wolf, and perhaps the same could be said of Albiorix.

High in the mountains they reached the end of their map, and lost track of the river's course. There they found a pack of wolfkin and asked for information regarding the gold, but they were told they had no knowledge of such a thing. Dismayed, the group asked for directions back to the river, than pressed onwards. Pilirani however, became separated from the group and was discovered by a wolfkin traveler, who took him to the river's mouth and showed him the ruins where she lived.

Facing nothing but empty desert, and running low on water Captain Aciaius decided to turn back. He thought the wolfkin had lied to throw them off the trail, and was determined to tear the place apart to find the gold his intelligence said was here, and take the water he so desperately needed. He could not come all this way to return empty handed – indeed he didn't even have the means to return at all.

Pili and his wolfkin companion were out and about when they were discovered by the returning party. She was captured, and Albiotrix went for Pili, calling him a traitor. The jader stood his ground against the big wolf who had so terrorized him in the past, and whom he had come to see as a mentor despite his flaws. They faced off, but Pili didn't attack. Instead he ran. He ran as hard and as fast as he could ever remember having run, with the dire wolf in hot pursuit. He ran right to the river's mouth, a huge lake that glittered golden in the sun, and stretched as far as the eye could see. Albiotrix and the rest of the company stumbled upon the lake. They shouted and cheered, and dove headfirst into the waters, so grateful to have found their path and the life it promised yet again.

They never did find any gold in those waters. Pili never could respect his old mentor again, but he'd gained a newfound respect for himself. He left Aciaius' party after that, and set out to carve his own path. The struggles he faced on his first journey have done nothing to deter his love of adventure, of seeing what wonders await over the next horizon and beyond.
