ABILITY

ANTIGENIC
Antigenic is where the affected individual's cells cause immune responses/allergic reactions in other people. It appears to be genetic and runs through the family.
It appears to have started five generations ago with the "index" case. It only presents in about a third of family members, and has thus far appeared in every generation. Each manifestation seems to be quite individualised in terms of the types and average severity of symptoms an affected family member may cause. Severity can range from very mild to quite serious, though a majority of affected family members have/had the milder form. Affected individuals also vary in terms of the types of symptoms they cause. For example, an individual may be more likely to induce respiratory based symptoms, similar to allergic asthma, while another may be more geared towards gut reactions, like nausea (eg. if they touch the food before it is eaten).
For Waiying, direct contact with him causes moderately severe inflammatory reactions, including red rashes, swelling, and verrrry irritating and annoying itchiness. These may appear within minutes of contact. In theory, if you just decided to wear his skin around for the day or something, one may even experience very severe peeling/blistering, tremendous hypotension, and pain. Even indirect contact, like he drinks from a cup then someone else drinks from the same cup, can cause some sort of reaction. For those reasons, he tries to cover up as much as possible, such as wearing gloves.
He also tries to wear a mask, because people can also react from inhaling respiratory droplets, like if he coughed directly on you. Though that kind of exposure usually just causes a bit of chest discomfort, he tries to be careful.
Symptoms settle within a few hours or a few days, depending on how long and how much an individual was exposed for.

OTHER SKILLS:
Skilled in delicate work with machinery and electronics
Professional skill in mechanics and engineering
Experienced in working with foreign technology/items
Is an intermediate level hacker, has some coding ability

PERSONALITY

blunt | sarcastic | assertive | organised | efficient worker | apathetic | temperamental

Generally easy-going with what others do, he just doesn't like it if it affects or interrupts him, and he will make that known. He is honest or blunt, depending on who you ask, and also straightforward, with a 'no shit' attitude. Of course he has his exceptions, especially if he actually cares about the other person and he thinks being honest will really hurt them, but his general instinct is to be frank.
Generally, he finds it harder to be genuinely caring for those he doesn't know well. He isn't the most encouraging person, not that he will actively or maliciously discourage people, but that he tends to leave people be, even if they are failing.
He is more on the prudently pessimistic side, but he isn't as pessimistic as he might appear from his tendency to drop grim or gloomy jokes/remarks all the time.
He unfraid enough to stick up for himself or others he is loyal to. Especially when he's angry, he will find it hard to back down from a fight or argument. He would also be willling to take up challenges thrown at him.
Scientifically minded, he doesn't have too much trouble leaving emotions out of the picture, and can avoid emotionally-charged situations and keep rational and reasonable... Well, mostly. When it's not really work-related or doesn't really require an 'objective' approach, he tends to let himself go a bit more. The biggest emotion he is prone to is anger, and that doesn't stop him from coming off as a bit temperamental.
As for work, he knows how to make priorities and keep them, as well as stick to a schedule. He's rather good at managing his time, has good work ethic and is punctual!

BACKSTORY

*World/context: lives in a universe where strange paranormal/supernatural things exist and happen, though it may not be known to the general public/common individual
When he was very young, Waiying found that weird things happened when people tried to touch him - they would get rashes and their skin would hurt and itch. For his twin sister, it was the opposite; weird things happened to her for seemingly no reason at all - she would just get rashes and her skin would hurt and itch. Some kids at school were a little mean to his sister for her eczema scars, but he wasn't afraid to go up against them, even getting into fights sometimes, even if his sister said he didn't have to. He just seem to like defeating his enemies, which honestly was kinda rare, given the scrawny kid that he was. Some adults found him to be quite a quick-tempered kid, though some other kids thought he was daring and confident, and these would become his friends. They liked to play pretend fighting games, like killing dragons and monsters and all that.
First he started wrapping bundles of sticks with string to make large swords. Then he took apart his toy car to see what was inside and try to tie the wires together, much to his mother's horror. When he was older, he often hung around in his friend's garage, trying to the understand the instruction manual for the next 'make-your-own-xx' project they were doing, or both pestering his friend's father for tips. Sometimes they would go around scrounging around the backstreets or other places where they could find abandoned material to tinker with (or accidentally electrocute themselves trying to modify it). Early on, he had always been rather interested in cryptids, aliens and the paranormal, often reading up about it online or reading books about it.
It was no surprise that he studied engineering in university, having gone to Singapore where some friends had also gone to study. Once when he was back in China during holidays, his friend invited him out to his faraway countryside residence where they spotted a pathway of broken trees. Following the trail of destruction to the side of the mountain, they found to be a strange crashed, abandoned aircraft which they lugged back home on the back of their vehicle. They found it had interesting properties and were way too intrigued with experimenting with it to be afraid of it. In the midst of their tinkering, however, Waiying saw an bright pulsating light - very brief, with a blue tinge. It was strange because his friend couldn't seem to see it. It seemed to be coming in the direction from where they had picked up the material, so they cautiously returned to the site, finding nothing much changed from how they had left it, other than an extra set of vehicle tracks, some footprints that weren't theirs, and a bad feeling of being tracked. Returning home, they stopped and pulled off the road, seeing the front door ajar. The house was unlit, yet the dusk light was just enough to see some movement inside.
Though a little spooked, life moved on. He continued his studies, doing some post graduate things, and persued his interest in UFOs and unearthly technology, believing unearthly visitors were real and that alien technology was out there. Though it was just sometimes he felt a little..watched at times? He shared and exchanged all sorts of evidence that he continued to piece together over time and was even able to team up with some of his friends to locate mysterious objects in the sky and track down those that appeared to land on Earth. All in all, he was finding out quite a lot. And he knew he was finding out quite a lot. And he also learnt some don't like it when people start digging around and finding things. But fortunately, the first organisation he came into contact with wasn't hostile. A global group of UFO hunters and paranormal investigators. The members agreed to protect each others privacy and information as best they could, while trying to work together to reveal the truth. It was like choosing between the mysterious aliens/other forces or malignant human forces on Earth, and somehow the humans seemed more scary, so he joined.

TRIVIA

His clothing style tends to be semi-casual, slim-fitting and covered up
Speaks Cantonese, Mandarin and English fluently. Could hold a basic conversation in German.
Drinks tea before going to sleep
Always puts lids back on pens or clicks them closed. He doesn't like seeing unclosed pens.
Used to be a smoker, but quit upon insistence from his sister
He documents his work and investigations, keeping well-organised records
He likes reading, generally non-fiction and opinion
His hair is usually messy, from attempting to cut it himself or from his sister trying to cut it
Other hobbies include road tripping/driving around, especially out into the country, and playing shooter games, though he does that less nowadays
Has talked to his uncle, who has the same thing, about their weird Antigenic condition thing. They've figured it doesn't seem to have normal Mendelian inheritance patterns, they're not really sure what the pattern is, if any. His uncle believed there was an event at some point in the line that started it, but he was afraid to go digging around more in case of uncovering something he shouldn't know and getting 'in trouble' for it, which frustrates Waiying he wants to find out exactly what is going on.
