Lėja lost her parents to a drunk driver at a young age, and as a consequence was taken in by her predatory uncle and his enabling wife. At age 13, she'd had enough and took a knife to their throats one night. She burned down the house to try to conceal the crime, but spilled gas on her sleeves and pants leg and ended up badly burned because of it. She made an attempt to flee the crime scene despite her injuries but was easily caught. She ended up in the hospital under police custody, and the loss of most of her fingers as well as her leg surely won her pity, especially when combined with her age: She recieved a light sentence from a largely sympathetic jury. While in juvie, she befriended Avalent, a slightly older girl who she developed a kinship with and who took her in after they both finished serving their relatively brief sentences. Hard lots got them both involved in sex work for a time before meeting Jude, but when Lėja went in to browse, the two ended up talking--and Jude offered her a job, upset by the dire straits she & Ava were in. Listening to the music in the store got her singing, and Jude's offhanded “Yo, you’re good. I can do guitar and so can my roomie... What if we started a band?” resulted in the formation of ØDIUM.
