Marley was a mean girl in high school and part of a clique that bullied a girl—Briana, Theo's sister—to the point of suicide. Overcome by guilt, she ditched her old friends and plunged into anorexia in the aftermath, and only barely made it out; the fact that she did owed to Jude's (and, incredibly, Theo's) support and friendship. By now Marley has totally changed and is desperately trying to reinvent herself and make karmic amends. She’s a camp counselor at a summer camp for disabled kids in the summer, and works as a waitress/barista and part-time librarian the rest of the year. Against all odds, guilt and grief brought her and Theo together instead of pushing them apart, and she's even the only one who calls him “Teddy.”
