A scholar that never quits, Ainsley ruthlessly pursues knowledge in less than orthodox ways. Ever a believer in first-hand experience, he seeks to learn through action and witnessing things firsthand. Books are good, but they can't quite compare to seeing something with your own eyes. He has a mischevious streak, and has been known to his magical prowess purely for the sake of a joke. It takes a patient friend to put up with Ainsley's truly non-stop bullshit, but they'll come out knowing something new every time.
While it's not his true passion, he is a rather skilled healer and doctor, and often plays the part as he travels for friends and stragners alike. He's usually better at diagnosing illnesses than actually treating them, but he provides many people with a solid first step to curing their conditions.

Summary
Ainsley grew up as a rather unassuming child, an only child born to a family with just enough wealth to afford to send him to college in his early teens. He took to academic life immediately, eager to learn and experiment and try new things. His interests were unusual and his expermients dangerous (for himself, mostly), and while his teachers appreciated his desire to learn, they found him a bit too reckless.
Hoping to get him out of their hair for a while, a teacher of Ainsley's set him up on an abroad study, where he would travel to a distant location and learn first-hand rather than through reading or classroom work. Deciding immedaitely this was the best way to learn and the only way to do it properly from that point on, Ainsley promptly dropped out of official schooling in his early twenties and began pursing knowledge independently.
Along the way, he was taken prisoner in a foreign country by a band of slave smugglers. Through his capture, he met the imprisoned dragon Ephraim. The two spent a lot of time together, with Ainsley teaching Ephraim magic. They plotted to escape together, were sucessful, and have been inseperable ever since. Over time Ephraim developed romantic feelings for the mage, and he was happy to reciprocate.
Now the pair of them travel the world, seeking to help people or hunt for lost arcane knowledge, whichever they happen upon along the way.
Ainsley is fast friend with Penelope, who he knew as a child and kept in touch with throughout his academic years. The two often meet to catch up, and share tales of where they've been and what they've discovered. The two are similarly temperamented, both being mischevious and reckless, and putting both of them in the same room is a sure-fire way to create chaos.
Design
• Ainsley is a trans man, and if bare chested has top surgery scars.
• He usually looks some level of unhinged, in a fun way!
• His hair is only about shoulder=length id down. Otherwise he keeps it half-up.
• He's always got his black-and-blue scarf on with his other clothes.
• Fond of a deep V cut, no matter what he's wearing.
Trivia
• When Ainsley uses magic, it usually manifests as a light blue.
• Supremely expressive. He talks with his eyebrows and his hands in equally measure.
• Ainsley is well-known for being excessively chipper, even when it's wildly inappropriate to be so.
• "How exciting! I get to learn something I have always wondered: Do Lycanthropes regrow bones?"

Ephraim
In a meeting of pure chance, the two spent some time in captivity together, quickly developing a very strong bond. Timelines vary, and in some Ainsley is alive and well, living out his dreams of seeing the world with Ephraim. In others, he dies in confinement, and Ephraim mourns his loss and vows to learn and explore the world in his place for it. Either way, Ainsley greatly shapes Ephraim as a person. In return, Ephraim acts as his impulse control.
Penelope
Penelope and Ainsley have a mutual agreement to cause problems. Ainsley can always depend on her to get him out of trouble, and she can rely on his to create trouble and get keep her entertained. They can keep each other busy for days if given the chance, and are great drinking partners. Often, they bond over both having lovers that will outlive them by thousands of years, and spend a fair amount of time discussing the topic.
Ilvaya
As the first human Ilvaya knows well enough to mean anything, Ainsley is constantly trying to set a good example for humanity. It's not going well, leaving Ilvaya confused and a little concerned most of the time. Still, Ilvaya likes and trusts and him well enough, and knows he's a kind and good-hearted person underneath his trouble-making.
Percy
Ainsley is Percy's discreet doctor, and the pair work together on cures and supressants for Lycanthropy. If Percy ends up in need of medical attention, Ainsley is the one he calls for.
