Chitose Bando
"I feel pathetic. I've tried to make you proud, but it seems that I always end up back at square one. I can't, I just can't. How can I give something I never had?" Chitose Bando is a playable character from Persona 4. She is a third year student, and the Student Council President of Yasogami High. Intelligent and actually rather talented, Chitose often finds herself isolated from the rest of the world due to her very harsh nature, even if she does come from a perspective of kindness. She makes an appearance in Persona 5, being present in the police headquarters and the courthouse as a law student having on the job training and doing errands for her superiors, particularly Sae Nijima, whom she was assigned under. ProfileAppearance Chitose is the tallest of the girls in the Investigation Team, standing at 5'8" without heels, and and alarming 5'11 or 6'0 with heels on. Her overall palette is incredibly pale in comparison to the rest of the characters. Her body is lithe and slightly toned, but lacks the curve expected for more matured bodies. She has pale skin with pink undertones. Her eyes are a light gray, highlighted by the pink eyeshadow she wears. Chitose's wavy hair is a pale peachy color, on the line of either pink or strawberry blonde and is incredibly long, reaching up until her mid-rear. Chitose often wears her very long hair in different styles, as shown in how she presents herself. One of her distinguishing traits is a large red scrunchie she always wears, regardless of her outfit. Another feature she possesses is her brightly painted nails, which she changes from red in the winter to black in the summer. More often than not, Chitose will be seen wearing makeup. She often has a very serious and intense look on her face; which she is clearly very aware of, but does not change. Despite her porcelain-like appearance, Chitose has imperfections in her skin. Under her left jawline she has a small scar which had come from her mother's nails breaking skin when she was harshly slapped as a child. On her left hip are remnant markings of a bad fall during middle school. Having suffered appendicitis at a young age, she has a surgical scar on the right side of her abdomen. Personality "I'm so ashamed. I thought I was living, but it seems I was just existing. I never thought about my purpose, what I really wanted. I just did whatever was the safest for me, never taking charge for most of anything. Even as president, I still play things safe, maybe it's time I really showed my conviction." Chitose appears incredibly standoffish to a fault due to the way she presents herself. She is very meticulous about how she goes about interacting with people. She exudes an aura of authority as Student Council President, and she is someone that people can rely on due to being incredibly reliable and hardworking. She has a whole issue of tough love going on, as Chitose is not very articulate with expressing herself to others and appealing to their emotions. While she does care for people, she is constantly frustrated that her honesty and her way of expressing isn't very welcome. While she is known to have a standoffish aura, she is more often than not one of the first people to step in if there is a problem, which often comes naturally for her. However; this is mistaken to be a selfish move on her end, due to being highly critical of others' works, even if she encourages everyone to get work done. She also has a maturity about herself, which can often be cold and uncaring when it actually boils down to it. As mentioned before, Chitose is highly critical of others and their flaws when she believes they need correction. She is more often than not also bound to make remarks on personalities that she does not see eyes to eye with. She has a habit of proclaiming that she comes from a place of kindness, and believes that the best way to go about that is to be blunt and honest. No beating around the bush, no sugarcoating. This being said, Chitose is very unafraid to speak her mind and make her opinion known. While she tends to have the opinion that most others follow and agree with, she still remains respectful of the opinions of others, even complimenting them for also being open to speak their mind. However; she can also be forceful. As stated previously, Chitose means no harm to anyone unless she means it. She believes that everyone should put their foot forward with a little push. The problem with this is, she tends to push others to the point of them snapping at her, to which she barks back that she was only trying to help them, and that they must understand that she is trying to be kind to them by helping others excel. Her forcefulness can also manifest in trying to bring out answers out of others, who, are sometimes so meek, when Chitose tries to make them speak up, end up in their anxiety and often leads to breakdowns. Despite this, Chitose understands when she must be apologetic, but most of the time, will not apologize unless said person breaks down. Otherwise, she simply could not grasp why her bluntness is unwelcome, when it's what people need the most. Additionally, Chitose is firecely independent, and more often than not makes sure everyone knows that they must be. This manifests in her only speaking and seeking help from authority if needed, otherwise doing all the work on her own. She is also known to have made remarks on higher authority and how they put themselves on a pedestal of reliance and trust, imposing that very image upon those who still cannot truly think for themselves. Dismissing such as blatant manipulation, Chitose has gotten into trouble for having a dangerous opinion on these figures. This being said, Chitose has made it a point time and time again that she is self-reliant, and has the capability to be. She often claims to not need help from others, and can handle herself. In truth, Chitose has a fear of putting faith in others as others put faith in her. When she witnesses unfounded cruelty and abuse, in a sense it triggers her. She does not take kindly to physical and verbal abuse, and will often stand in defense of the victim. It has become a reflex that she refuses to let others suffer the abuse she has gone through, in whatever shape or form. Despite her conviction and passions as shown in her opinions and how she pushes others, Chitose keeps a level-headedness and poise about herself that functions more as a means of keeping herself in check and not going too far with her words and actions. In many situations, Chitose will remain calm and try to look at the situation objectively. However; she is bound to falter when a higher authority is put into the equation, and will put out a solution that will keep them as distant from relying on such. While others may not agree with her line of thinking, she more often than not tries to say what will benefit everyone, however what she says is not what others want to hear sometimes. Underneath her strong facade is a scared young girl who cannot give what she never had, genuine love and care. Chitose has a staggering difficulty in being kind and tender as others are to each other. She has a seething jealousy and misunderstanding of why people would prefer to be given sweet lies than truth that will better them as people. She truly does come from kindness when she gives her opinions and critiques on other people, as she sees growth and development important to everyone. When she is shown love and tenderness, it may lead to very choked and stiff reactions, being suspicious of a person's motives for being kind to her. Wanting to find solace and be open to being cared for, Chitose has a crippling fear of being taken advantage of. In situations such as this, she becomes irrational and fears that affection is a farce. Even if someone raises a hand in offense against her, she flinches and sometimes will raise her own in defense. She has had a bad case of domestic violence up until recently, which is why she is very careful even in her own home. She has a terrible amount of difficulty putting faith in adults as a result of her personal experience. This has made her critical about parental negligence, especially when it comes to the upbringing of young children. Physical touch to Chitose is like striking her skin with hot iron, especially those of surprise and sudden movements. However; she understand ethics and etiquette, and thusly reminds herself that she is past her abuse and that her abusers could never get to her again, even if they were her own parents. Throughout the events of the game, Chitose's extended exposure to the Investigation Team and learning how to handle and trust them had helped her develop into a more gentle person who understands that bluntness and harsh honesty is not always the way to help someone improve their character. She learns to loosen up as a person and begins to trust in the goodness of others who extend their helping hand her way. Chitose then ebgins to learn co-dependency and that she doesn't always need to have burdens on her shoulders, sharing it with others and walking through it. While retaining her leadership skills, she also learns to become a follower, and to put herself in the shoes of others rather than them putting themselves in hers. However, Chitose still has difficulty being sweet and sugary as others want her to be. She decides that, she doesn't need to be that way, because she would then be forcing herself for others yet again. In the end, she believes she has gone far enough as a person to say she has truly changed for the better. StoryEarly Life Chitose was born the only child of a relatively well to do family.
