Ryeheart

Ryeheart is the medicine cat of SkyClan. He is the son of Softheart and Tanpelt, and brother to Goldenmoon and Fawnspeckle. He was the apprentice of Junglefoot during Bone Shred's attacks on the Clans, and after his death, became the full medicine cat of SkyClan.

"Sorry. One of the kits had a cough and he was keeping the whole nursery awake. I had to give him some coltsfoot before I left. I came as fast as I could."

Ryeheart is witty and quick to share his knowledge of herbs and give advice to the others.

Kithood

Ryekit is born to Softheart and Tanpelt alongside his sisters, Goldenkit and Fawnkit.

Apprenticeship

Ryepaw becomes a medicine cat apprentice, mentored by Junglefoot. (Beyond the River, allegiances)

It is the night of a gathering. Junglefoot and Ryepaw are deep in conversation with Flowerwing. Maplesky and Otterpelt join them. When Hivepelt and Silverberry arrive with WindClan, The medicine cats look at them warmly. (Beyond the River, chapter 6)

Medicine Cat

After Junglefoot is killed in battle with Bone Shred's rogues, Ryeheart becomes the full medicine cat of SkyClan. (Beyond the River, final allegiances)

Ryeheart and the other medicine cats wait outside the Moonstone cave for the WindClan cats. Silverberry arrives with Starpaw and says she hopes they haven't been waiting long. Otterpelt tells her that Spicewhisker and Ryeheart arrived just before the WindClan cats. After Silverberry introduces Starpaw, Spicewhisker introduces himself as well as Ryeheart. In the Moonstone cave, after Silverberry gives Starpaw her medicine cat apprentice ceremony, the other medicine cats purr and give her looks and nods of approval. Ryeheart and the others settle around the Moonstone and dream with StarClan. Ryeheart arches his back in a stretch as he wakes. When the medicine cats leave the cave, Spicewhisker dips his head to Ryeheart and wishes him safe travels. The medicine cats go their separate ways. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 2)

Ryeheart arrives late to the next Moonstone meeting, and Hawkfeather asks what kept him. Ryeheart apologizes, catching his breath and explaining that one of the kits was keeping the whole nursery awake with a cough. He gave him coltsfoot before he left, and came as fast as he could. Otterheart assures him it's alright, touching his shoulder with her tail and asking if the kit is better. Ryeheart says yes, he stopped coughing and fell asleep, sighing in relief. He seems to have recovered from his run and suggests they go in the cave. He and the others dream with StarClan, then leave. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 4)

At a Highstones meeting, Ryeheart bristles upon hearing how Deserve killed Sunflower, asking if he is after the other Clans as well. He then dreams with StarClan. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 6)

At the Highstones meeting, Ryeheart arches his back before heading into the cave, telling the others that StarClan awaits. He dreams with StarClan. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 8)

At the gathering, Hawkfeather is conversing with Spicewhisker and Ryeheart. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 9)

Ryeheart waits patiently wth Spicewhisker and Otterpelt at Highstones. After Starpaw and Silverberry arrive, Hawkfeather and Dewstorm are late, and Ryeheart wonders if they aren't coming, suggesting they go on without them. However they agree to wait. After the ShadowClan medicine cats arrive, they all go into the cave. After Starfaith's ceremony, he and the others dream with StarClan. He was concerned when Starfaith wanted to spend the night in the cave. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 10)

At the gathering, Ryeheart greets Silverberry and Starfaith, touching noses with them and hoping all is well in WindClan. Silverberry sits with him and purrs that they are well and asks how SkyClan is. Ryeheart looks at his Clanmates in the crowd as he tells her one of their elders died, but besides that they are well. When Hawkfeather talks of a future murderer among them, Dewstorm's excuse is old age. Ryeheart and Silverberry exchange a solemn look. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 12 and Shadows of Blood, chapter 7)

Ryeheart is solemn upon hearing of Hawkfeather's death. They're silent for a moment before Otterpelt introduces her apprentice, Sagepaw. Ryeheart comments that it's chilly tonight. In the cave, Ryeheart dreams with StarClan. After Starfaith awakes and is shaken up, Ryeheart is concerned and asks what's going on. He's surprised when Starfaith and Dewstorm want to stay behind for a bit. He dips his head to them before he leaves. (Starfaith's Fate, chapter 14)

Moonstone Attack

Ryeheart is with the other medicine cats in the Moonstone cave dreaming with StarClan. Bloodfur, Mottledface, and some of Deserve's soldiers attempt to kill the medicine cats in their sleep. Bloodfur attacks Ryeheart, lunging for his neck, but he awakes and yowls in shock, throwing Bloodfur off of him. (Shadows of Blood, chapter 22)

During the fight, Bonfire madly swipes his hind claws at Ryeheart's belly as he screeches "Death to the Clans!". Sagepaw, Ryeheart, and Spicewhisker then struggle to fight off the soldiers blocking the tunnel. Ryeheart doesn't give up despite blood pooling from his belly. Dewstorm, Creamheart, and Sagepaw escape the cave while Ryeheart and Spicewhisker hold off the soldiers guarding the entrance. Mottledface and Papercut quickly run to attack Ryeheart and Spicewhisker. Ryeheart and Spicewhisker are the only living cats left in the cave. Ryeheart has a critical stomach wound. Their attackers decide he and Spicewhisker are as good as dead and leave them. (Shadows of Blood, chapter 22)

Ravenstar and some cats get to Ryeheart and Spicewhisker in time to save them and bring them back to their camps. Ryeheart does not attend the emergency gathering due to critical injuries. (Shadows of Blood, chapter 22)

After the Battle

Ryeheart is sitting beside Spicewhisker. They touch noses as they say goodbye. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 6)

At the gathering, Spicewhisker and Ryeheart are conversing. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 7)

Ryeheart tells the medicine cats that Sunfire was found drowned in the lake. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 18)

At the gathering, Ryeheart is shocked to hear of Dewstorm's death. But he's sure he's happy to be back with Starfaith and his kin. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 25)

Ryeheart runs over to Burningkit, shocked to see him in the battle. Burningkit cries into his fur that Sandblaze is gone and it's his fault. Ryeheart holds him close. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 28)

After the battle against Rosemary, in the RiverClan camp, Ryeheart inspects Burningkit, who is unharmed but shaken. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 29)
