Goodness me, you remind me of my Daniel. [A soft laugh]. My apologies if that was odd to say, you just seem similar... Sure, you're older than he is, but... I do hope that he grows up with some interest in medicine or technology, you know? The youth are our future, after all-- you are our future. :)
I kn-know I am the future... th-that's why I do wha-what I do... For.. the future..
I can't even begin to explain how grateful I am for people who do the types of jobs that you do. And so young... What got you interested in the field? I can't handle looking at blood, not like you do, not in those situations. It makes me feel sick, the things that people do. You're someone to admire, Jubilee, and I can imagine that you're going to make a name for yourself.
[CW: Gore descriptions? IDK this one is fucked up] Baby girl, I've already made a name for myself. Serious question: are you single? Can't imagine it. You talk like a mom. Ever lost a kid? I've seen so many parents grieve. I've seen mothers desperately try to reassemble what's left of their sons and fathers drenched in the red of their daughters. Those don't make me sad, though. No, the sad ones are the ones that don't have parents at all. Can you imagine that? Dying without anyone to mourn you? Like a tree fallin' in the middle of a forest, with no one to hear it. Hehe! Don't worry, Ms. Hernández. If you fall, I'll hear you. I would DIE to know what color you are inside!
You have a smile that could light up a room, don't you? And a prosthetist..! I may not know you well, JoJo, but I have a feeling that you get joy from making others happy, don't you? I can admire that. I really can. Goodness.
Oh, my, aren't you... colorful! Surgery is a tough job. All that blood... [She looks woozy.] Ouuh, sorry, dear. I don't mean to sound dismissive. Having life in your hands is nothing to shake your head at. And to be so good at it? You may be one of the smartest cookies I've ever met in my life. Can I trust you?
It's a great place to be, really. I never foresaw it blowing up as much as it did-- certainly not when I was a child, and certainly not now. It's amazing, the things that we've created to make life easier, aren't they? I may not be as much of a teacher as you are, Professor, but maybe I can help you learn some more, sometime.
software engineering... that's a pretty good place to be right about now, isn't it? we're in the middle of the tech boom, after all. some of the things I do in the lab brush up on some programming, and I know a little bit of C++, but I can only imagine how in the weeds you must be.
Oh. Well. I can assure you that computers aren't quite like that? It's just, well, I create programs, you know? Software is like the applications that run on a computer. I work on a lot of programs that aim to help people in a lot of different ways. Like, databases, and stuff like that. Computers... They aren't alive. They're simple. It's easy, to work with code. It's easier to fix.
once i had a dream that i was like a computer, and i had all kinds of software put into my body. it was like euphoria. and it was like hell! there was a button that claimed to love me but when it was clicked it infested me with the worst pain that i had ever known in my life. it felt like god himself had turned his back on me and left me to rot in my own digital suffering -- but it was my body, you see, so it wasn't just digital at all. it was my life. so i -- oh, hehe, come to think of it, i don't believe i understand what a software engineer really is! it isn't my field of expertise.
Oh, goodness, I'd love that. You have no idea how long it's been since I've had a friend my own age. Or, so it feels, ahaha! I'd really love to swap trade secrets together, too. I'll definitely be taking you up on that offer to call, dear. <3
A software engineer! I assume that dealing with all the software maintenance is tiresome at times. Good to know that there's someone with a similar occupation as me, if you ever need me to check and test the security of an application or a program feel free to give me a call.
But you can also give me a call if you want to hang out ;)
Th-- Thank you. Thank you, Madonna, genuinely. It means a lot. I actually... It wasn't in my plans, you know? To go down this track? But life plays its cards, and it's where it took me. It's been rewarding. But accounting isn't anything to put your nose up at. You deserve just as much credit as I do. It's hard out there. And finding your niche, well... It can be sink or swim, can't it?
There you go, girl, you got the right idea! Go to college, get a degree, get another degree and maybe another, and work in a nice clean office for the rest of your days. I can't imagine you're anything less than bright, Ophie, especially with smart framework like that on your side! Software engineering... yeah, I ain't got anything to top that. You're makin' a lot after a life of bein a Plain Jane Poindexter, aren't ya?
My, my, you are... Quite the looker, Ruth. I'm sorry if I'm blushing, I just don't think I can help myself. You must be quite strong, doing what you do and all. I'm... Well. I can't say that I lift too much more than a computer mouse, ehehe.
Thanks. Everyone tells me my arms are really firm, like one of those foam pillows or something. I guess you could tell me if you felt them. You're probably smart. Right. Computers or something.
Hey, now, I wouldn't say 'only'... Electricity is more than half of the job, isn't it? I don't know a thing or two about the wiring, Louie, I just know how to fix up the codes when everything's powered up. I wouldn't be able to do my job without folks like you. Thank you for your expertise!
Woah, again with all the computers…
That’s really cool, y’know? Or—I guess I can just say it’s cool. I’ve always thought computers were pretty neat, though I usually only have a hand in the powering ‘em up part, not the… the all-the-rest-of-it junk.
But hey, if you need a guy to turn the lights on…!
We're like two peas in a pod! Computer work is so rewarding, isn't it? I'm sure that some of it is easier for you to pick up than it is for me-- you were practically born into this amazing boom of technology. For me, well, it was like teaching an old dog new tricks. [A little laugh]. That isn't to say that I'm not good at my job. I'd love to collaborate sometime, Kimberly.
Hahah, wwell, it was hardly-y easy for me, so for you, I can't even imagine! You mmust be well talented. And I think it's super c-cool to see an older woman in this field. I'll happily collab wwith you.
To be quite frank, Naruki, I'm not too familiar with the ins and outs of business financing. All I got to worry about is putting food on my baby's plate and keeping the roof over our heads, you know? I can't imagine having the financial wellness of an entire business in your hands. You've got a good head on your shoulders, don't you?
Eh, honestly it's just a lot of math. Might just be me, but It's a lot easier once you get used to it. It probably helps that I use a lot of software to help with that. Learning to execute code and run spreadsheets streamlines the process a lot. I'd take a guess that it's not too different when it comes to programming and software development, isn't it?
