JOB Farmer

A scatterbrained farmer boy who made the executive decision his name was Ravioli after running from home. Rumors are it's due to the earrings he made or how good his aunt's ravioli was when he was a kid. To most he's friendly and energetic, but he's made of more lies than he is of ink. Just don't pester him into talking about himself.

LIKES

The outdoors, cities, crowds, Salmon Run, dualies, Ravioli (food and the person), warm weather, Krak-On, and Splash Mob.

DISLIKES

Glasses, flip-flops, intrusive questions, rural areas, his family, being told what to do, dress shirts, caffeine, blasters, and photos of himself.

STORY MENTIONS

  • The Letter — Chapter 3
    • A year after the fight, Stewart writes a lengthy apology letter to Westley who never recieved it since he'd already moved to Splatsville by then.

HOBBIES

Driving, hoarding magazines, cooking, skateboarding, collecting earrings and shoes, and roaming the outdoors.

DESIGN NOTES

  • He had the hipster cut as a kid, the bowl cut in Inkopolis, and then grew his hair back after moving back home
  • He's nearsighted but would rather crash into stuff than wear his glasses
  • Always has a farmer's tan
  • Present day, he wears lemon slice earrings instead of raviolis, as he gifted the originals to Ravi. He wears the lemons since they remind him of when they first met

PERSONALITY

Stew’s a ball of energy who loves being around people and making his peers laugh. He’s a free spirit who prefers to make his rules, and often won’t go along with ideas unless he comes up with them. He’s a bit scatterbrained at times and terrible at cleaning up after himself, but he’s highly expressive and goes out of his way to only share his positive side with his peers. He manages to get along with anyone, and it’s rare to see him upset, but he gets inexplicably defensive when asked about his personal life and history. When people irritate him consistently, he’s known to cut them off with no explanation instead of fighting. It makes people question his commitment when he jumps around from person to person without confronting people about their issues, but it doesn’t happen frequently enough for it to be a genuine worry.

BACKSTORY

Stewart grew up on a farm in the countryside with his parents and six older sisters. His family prioritized a life separate from the hustle and bustle of everyday Inkopolis and had an intense work ethic. Stewart could never seem to fit in—he was the only boy, he was never strong enough, never smart enough, irresponsible, useless on the farm—and was therefore manhandled by everyone. He was confined by their boundaries and could never seem to live up to their expectations, as he was only a kid.

He didn’t have many years left in him to handle their hatred, especially after his dad died and everyone else picked up his abusive habits. Being in the middle of nowhere hindered his ability to meet new people and be himself, even at school.

Being cut off from the world sent him into a depression which dubbed him the problem child, as they felt he had nothing real to complain about. Unknown to them, Stewart had been molested by one of his sister’s boyfriends in an effort to feel like he belonged. He continued to close himself off, hoping his family would grow tired and eventually send him away, but everyone ignored his cries for help, only sullying their relationship more. He started smoking pot and roamed the woods at night, not returning home for multiple days to escape reality, even if it meant getting attacked by wild animals. He often slept in the barn since he’d be ridiculed the moment he stepped into the house.

By age 17, he’d had enough, cut his hair, dropped out of high school, and ran to the city. He stopped wearing glasses and made a fake ID for his new persona—Ravioli. He refused to go by any variant of his old name and never mentions his past to anyone in the city. No one’s aware of his old look, as he made himself unrecognizable so as to not be dragged back home. He’d claim his parents passed away and he was too old to be placed into foster care.

While he has a few keepsakes in his apartment, he can’t remember much of his childhood because he blocked it out. Most positive memories were always sullied by horrible ones in that same day. He could finally be himself in Inkopolis and enjoyed the laidback lifestyle. He made many friends, his best friend being Westley, known to him as Raviyoli. Their relationship thrived for five years until they got into a fight over Stewart’s past and the Inkling—ashamed of his words and actions, bailed.

He realized if he couldn’t even be honest with his best friend, there’s was no hope of him ever accepting his truth and showing his true colors to anyone. All he knew how to do was run and with nowhere else to go, he cut everyone off and returned home. His family may hate him, but it’s the only place he belongs. Living as a fake persona could only last but so long—he’s not capable of being anything other than a farmer boy.

RAVIYOLI (WESTLEY) best friend...?

Stewart first met Raviyoli on his farm when he was 16, though since he often blocked out his childhood, he didn’t remember him when he met him for the second time in Inkopolis when he was 19. Stew was confused by the boy’s broken Inklish, weird attire, and ignorance about the city, but he found him cute and wanted to help. He felt like he had known him in a past life or something and wanted to be his friend since he was alone.

After teaching him about the norms of Inklings, sharing his outfits and weapons with him, and helping him speak better, he introduced him to his friends. Since they lived together, they quickly grew closer. Stewart was confused about the Octoling's origins, but since Ravi never mentioned it, he felt safer around him since it was unlikely he would ask him anything similar.

Nonetheless, when he came home to his friend digging through his things, he felt like his trust had been broken. Not only was he nosy like his other peers, but he had an unnerving backstory: Kidnapping? Murder? Saving the world? Being a different species altogether? While it normally wouldn’t have bothered him, the argument ruined his concentration and caused him to freak out more. He felt uncomfortable when the Octoling decided to call him by his first name and panicked after hitting him because of it.

The Inkling knew he was in the wrong, and while he wanted to help his friend, he felt like he was better off leaving so Ravi wouldn't get hurt again. Stewart had awful trust issues and grew to realize that keeping secrets never worked.

He thought he could continue living a fake life but, after hurting his best friend, realized he’d be better off returning to his family’s farm and working for the rest of his life. Even though all his relatives hurt him, he’d rather have that than continuously ruin friendships in Inkopolis. He never knew that Raviyoli moved to Splatsville after the altercation, however. Due to his family’s produce, he’s often subjected to run farm stands and thus frequents Hagglefish Market. It’s possible that the two will reconnect again, but hopefully Stewart will finally tell him the truth.
