Maylu's Comments

after reading about their backgrounds and feelings toward each other, i'm a little :( but i also get why both of them feel the way they do, they're both very sympathetic characters with interesting psychology behind them

Oh man, I definitely remember her from so long ago and here's my time to actually say what I love about her skjdfhgkdfgf-

First of all, I love the dedication that you put into both her and her sister; despite their info being bite-sized (not that it's a bad thing sdgdfg) they still feel like super interesting characters and I just can't get enough of them! Also I love how both of their designs look similar at first glance, but when you open them up side by side they're quite different! I just wanted to get that out of the way, now it's time for me to talk about Maylu herself aha-

Your writing style is really good, it was really easy for me to read her profile; it leaves me with so many questions about her, like what's her world like? There are little hints of worldbuilding throughout her bio which I adore (like how you hint that it might not be a nice world to live in) but at the same time those hints don't feel forced in. I also adore how you explain the magic system of her world in her Skills tab, and the darker sides of it with the very existence of her weapon Solstice. (also i really love the "hidden" trait of how solstice affects her after prolonged use!!) I also had a peek at her childhood self, which makes the implied events of her main profile all the more bittersweet; though it's interesting to see how she changed overtime.

That aside, I want to talk about her profile in general aha- I really like how despite her whole "bitch in sheep's clothing" demeanor, she still has a backstory that makes you understand why rather than just leaving it unexplained; it makes me feel for her and makes her a sympathetic character, though at the same time it avoids trying to make her completely sympathetic. I'm also curious how her relationship with Lindy will change over time given how she's so desperate to have Lindy all to herself, but Lindy is trying to carve out who she really is (at least, that's what I can get from the Links section). It's genuinely really interesting and I have never seen that take on sibling characters before!

Aaaaah sorry that this got super long, but really your profiles are (chef's kiss)! I had a lot of fun writing out this comment hahaha-

Oh wow Celes – thank you so much for your detailed & thoughtful review. I truly enjoyed reading every bit of it. ^^-

I do also remember you from awhile back and playing with your vast variety of OCs on the forum games. I was honestly surprised by your familiarity with the twins’ story, and I’m really grateful you took the time to share your thoughts on them.

It’s really fun to reflect the sisters off eachother and I somehow find it satisfying to working in opposites for some reason. It sometimes slow me down and I worry that I’m being too nitpicky on small details, but when I’m able to make it work, I get so fluffy about it lol.

Honestly, I was able to flesh out their personalities much more while interacting with others here on TH. Originally, Maylu was just a shy and docile girl who was very attached to her twin and afraid of changes that might take them in different directions. It wasn’t until I was here, interacting with other OCs, that I was able to test the waters and dabble in ideas of there being a darkness in her that helps drive her towards her sole, selfish desire. When she developed this off-key trait, it added a dimension that I have so much more fun in expressing. Maybe it’s weird but I like her so much more as a sickeningly sweet girl, than just a sweet girl. And sometimes I really enjoy navigating her indirect expressions, compared to her sister who is more obvious and overt for the most part.

Maybe you and other creators are like this as well – but I have a ton of backstory and plot spinning in my head about where my characters came from and where they’re going. Unfortunately I actually have a lot of trouble expressing key events in writing in a way that is not overbearing or filled with insignificant details and I really tried hard to be concise in my descriptions. I hope you found it digestible and I’m hoping in the future that I would be able to share more about their story with everyone. On TH specifically, I did try to leave some ends open to avoid painting the characters into a corner, and to free them towards mingling with other OC’s here.

Sorry I know I’ve been going on and on. I’ll finish by trying to offer some insight onto how I think Lindy & Maylu’s relationship will develop over time..

The sisters were raised very closely by their mother in a sheltered environment. They were treated by those around them always like a pair, though both are well aware of how different they are. Maylu was more of a mama’s girl, and to help distract from the jealousy Lindy felt, she would seek the company of others, mainly visitors and travellers. This inspired Lindy’s interest in the world outside her little family bubble.

After the gruesome death of their mother, which Lindy had shielded Maylu from seeing as much as possible (hiding in the room while their mother was killed, Lindy had Maylu cover her own ears, while Lindy covered Maylu’s eyes; only Lindy witnessed the murder), they subsequently lost their home and had to escape. Maylu latched onto her sister as her remaining sense of security, and Lindy feels responsible in taking care of her, but there remains a disconnect. This is the starting point, with one sister responding to a traumatic event trying to escape and grow, and as you said, carve out her own identity, while the other sister rejecting change and clinging to the only one she deems familiar and trustworthy.

Maylu is good at manipulating her sister, and keeps control of her through guilt, obligation and dependency, until a trigger point where Lindy breaks away or the two are seperated. It’s kind of my speculation at this point, but their storylines branch here and they develop apart from one another. But I intend and hope for them to come together with a more healthy relationship and understanding of eachother.. though it’s not guaranteed. Ideally, Lindy learns to understand Maylu’s grief, and instead of sheltering her from the truth and being solely a protector, begins to rely on her sister as an ally and recognise Maylu’s capabilities. While Maylu is forced to navigate the world on her own, and learn to rely on herself without her sister to manipulate or depend on. It’s still kind of up in the air if she would be able achieve this, or instead, spiral further into a despair that may lead to their demise.

I’m sorry if that was both long and useless information! I still spin these tales in my head and it’s a lot of fun entertaining the possibilities.. I hope I indulged your curiosity a little bit!

I really appreciate you sharing your thoughts and comments on this character. Thank you ❤!

Aaaa don't worry about length, I really loved reading through these!! I didn't know that Maylu started out as a more typically-sweet character, and it's nice to see how characters can change overtime in the meta sense :o And I really liked reading how their relationship develops and what you have in store for them!

No prob aaaa, I'm glad that you enjoyed it-

Ahh yeah do you experience the same with your characters? - it's interesting how characters evolve over time, whether a change in their design or developments to their personality especially for those characters that have been with us the longest. I remember that these two OCs were inspired by a horror game I played when I was a highschool sophomore. They looked a lot different back then and even had several different names hehe. Now I've graduated & am working and they are still an endless creative outlet. Ahh well thanks again Celes for your kind input - I hope to continue to hear from you & continue to see more of your OC's going forward too! ^^-

Yeah I do! For example, several characters that I tried to make mean ended up getting backstories that changed how I viewed them, so I can't really call them "mean" anymore haha- And thank you, you too ;o;

Ahh sorry I noticed this message really late. Thank you very much ! ♡

Why is she so freakin cute?!!!

Thanks so much ~❤ I'm v happy that you enjoy her /)// 3 // (\

I love the thought you've put into the story of the character and her sister. It's very interesting.

Ah thank you! I really enjoy developing these two & I hope to share more about them in the future. I'm happy that they were worthy of your interest. Thanks so much for your kind words~

There's something about Maylu and her twin that really captured my attention. Both have SOMETHING against the other that the other may not know. I feel like, at one point in the story, the feelings will burst out all at once, and that will drive a rift in their whole relationship. Maylu's entire character is incredibly well written, complex, and realistic, so perfectly contradictory and endearing that I am naturally drawn towards her. I commend you for your excellent character.

Oh wow, your comment was delightful to read. Can't tell you how happy I am to know that others enjoy my characters. It means a lot to me and I'm so thankful for your kind words! /)\\\ (\""

There certainly seems to be an illusion upheld between the two. Although I revealed this to the readers, like you said, the two are actually unaware of her sister's true feelings, and are in someways in denial of her own. Therefore they have that typical superclose twin relationship, but really it's strained under wraps.. I have so much more to share about them, why this is, & their story -- hopefully I can in time heheh !

But I also like leaving some boundaries undetermined so to speak, 'cause it's super fun flitting them into different scenarios & interacting with various interesting characters (like yours !).

Aa~ anyways I'm going on and on LOL. Thank you kindly for your comment~ ^u^"

im gonna melt maylu is really sweet and good

i saw your post and just. zoomed over here and

'she will go to any length of manipulation, sabotage, and even her own self-destruction to exclusively possess her twin'

of course there's a catch lmao

shes really good though!! this is a really well written profile too!

Awe~ LOL yes actually she is usually a lowkey jerk to so-called 'outsiders' aka anyone who isn't her sister.

But Bright Eyes was just so adorable, I couldn't resist. It would've been wayyyy to easy to have Lindy piggyback him, but I thought it would be more interesting to imagine Maylu's reaction.

Bright-eyed is pretty much how I described Lindy on Maylu's profile so that allowed Maylu to look at your cutiepie more than just some 'outsider' and see him through her soft lens rather than her jaded ones. That Bright Eyes is a psychic-type, and Maylu has paranormal sensibilities allowed Maylu to have insight beyond her usual suspicions. And the fact that he is lonely and latching made him relatable to her.

This isn't written but Maylu does have a motherly side (she was extremely close to her mum before she lost her), yet it's always obscured by the deranged obsession she has with her twin, so pretty much nobody gets to see it - Bright Eyes being an exception. I didn't even realize she was capable myself, but cool ~ that's some character development down the hatch & I thank you for that! ^u^-

i'm really glad i could help you get some character development in! like i said, maylu and lindy are two really interesting characters (now that i've actually read lindy's profile, haha)

good luck in the future with your characters anyways!

(oh and thanks for calling bright eyes adorable, i'm glad i'm not the only one who thinks so!)

I'm really glad you found them worthy of your interest. That means a lot~

I wish you luck & tons of fun too. Hope to see more of your lovely characters around as well. All the best ! ^^-

This is a really cool character! :D

Awe, thanks so much ❤! I appreciate it & I'm glad you enjoy her~
