INTRODUCTION

Your name is SILENE ANGORA and you're quite the MOTHERLY monster. You are often found BABYING children and SMOTHERING them with KINDNESS. Though, you also try to EAT THEM sometimes if you're hungry enough. No-one's perfect.

Why? Because you are a SIREN. Yes, you lull anyone of the male gender to their DROWNING DEMISE sometimes to hunt like all siren do, BUT you're a very LAZY hunter and usually just wait until someone unfortunate walks TOO CLOSE. Then, you GRAB THEIR ANKLES (or the closest part available) and take them by surprise.

Unlike other sirens, you also enjoy being OUT OF WATER. Your tail works much like a NAGA'S BODY and allows you to 'slither'. You're more SNAKE-LIKE than FISH-LIKE.

You're not ONE TO BE AFRAID OF, despite all of this. You're very POLITE, CARING and EASY TO GET ALONG WITH. You NEVER ATTACK FRIENDS, no matter how hungry you are. You're really a GOOD PERSON, if you ignore the moral flaws…

Your hobbies include TENDING TO YOUR ELDERLY MOTHER, WATERLIFE, and UNDERWATER GARDENING. You’re basically EVERYONE’S CARETAKER in the river and make sure everyone from creature to plant is happy, healthy, and well.

Personality

Silene is a very mature, independent woman who takes everything in her stride. She is always very busy with her job as a caretaker and takes her responsibility seriously. She’s committed, and makes sure that everything is running as smoothly as possible – but she does have a tendency to get overwhelmed at times. Naturally, as a caretaker she has a very loving, nurturing, understanding, and motherly nature which shines whenever she’s tending to a garden or providing aid to the river-life.

She’s incredibly smart and cunning as any predator should be, and is excellent at the hunt. Her caring nature doesn’t extend to her prey, however, in which she is cold, calculating, and ruthless towards. You are someone’s husband and have a family? Doesn’t matter to her. She just sees you as a meal. Very rarely her prey escapes as she’s good at what she does.

It’s very difficult to get Silene angry as she generally has a very loving disposition, but she does not put up with people harming anything in her river – even if you do so much as rip at the river weeds. She can typically understand accidents, but it is likely someone who intentionally harms her environment will end up injured themselves. Being caring is one thing, but sometimes it doesn’t stop someone from being violent by nature.

If she is provoked and doesn’t attack physically, she can be rude and tear someone down with just her words. She can be a nasty piece of work and doesn’t really have too much sympathy for those who don’t deserve it. However, if you do something wrong and own up and apologise for your actions – she’ll normally always be ready to forgive you and help you become a better person.

Overall (as long as you don’t get on her bad side, of course) she makes for good company and is a fairly lovely person to get to know.

HISTORY

Silene had a pretty cruisy life. Laze about one day, go hunting the next. Life was fairly easy and she wasn’t really one to do anything useful. It wasn’t until her mother contracted an unknown mystery illness that left her bedridden did she finally step up to the plate – the responsibility of the river systems in the cave that she resided in falling to her. Of course, she didn’t have to take on all of this responsibility, but her mother couldn’t care for the wellbeing of the plants and creatures anymore as she could barely even feed herself let alone others. Silene – knowing full well that her mother’s lifespan was shortened drastically – didn’t want her to be burdened with all of her commitments until her dying breath.

She managed to take it all in her stride and quickly found her footing, talking to her mother regularly for tips and advice on how to handle situations she didn’t have solutions for. Her sister was very helpful as well, giving her aid whenever she was feeling overwhelmed. Silene was, of course, incredibly grateful for her sister’s help. That was until, she wasn’t.

See, her sister – Harmony – had slowly fallen into teenage rebellion. Silene wasn’t sure why she had begun acting out or talking back, and the fact that her sister had suddenly stopped being her cheerful, kind, helpful self had begun to take a toll on her to the point where she started following her around just to see what the cause of her behaviour was. She discovered that Harmony was chatting to some ocean mermen where the river flows out to the sea. These boys weren’t the kind of guys that a sister would want her sibling associating with, as she could tell that they were a bad influence to her right off the bat.

Silene confronted her about these boys, and a huge argument ensured. Silene had never been upset with anyone to this degree before, especially her own sister, but her anger got out of control to the point where she ended up slapping Harmony across the cheek. That was the last straw. Harmony stopped immediately and simple turned tail and swam back to her room without a word. Silene felt regretful as soon as she hurt her, but didn’t follow. She thought letting her cool off was the best course of action.

She waited overnight for the tension to die down and went to find her sister early in the morning only to find nothing. She went to ask her mother about where she went, but her mum only said that she had left for the ocean and that – due to her sickness – she couldn’t stop her. They were both devastated, and Silene felt horrible guilt as she knew that Harmony leaving was entirely her fault. She also knew that she would not survive in the ocean as she was a freshwater siren. The saltwater would have slowly killed her. She tried to cling to the hope that she was having fun and enjoying herself, but she couldn’t ignore the fact that she had lost her sister.

She now tries to be kind to everyone in her river to make up for her loss, and to help her mother cope. She can’t sleep at night sometimes, however, knowing what she had done and that she never got the chance to apologise and never will.

DESIGN NOTES

Silene is very large and intimidating at a whopping 15’8” in height from tail to head. Without her tail, her torso alone stands at a good 6’0”. She has an average yet slightly bony build and her skin/scales are dark aqua in colouration. Her body is very sleek, and is lightly scaled to the point where it feels very smooth. She has bio-luminescent scales on her cheeks, nose bridge, shoulders and upper arms, and down the entirety of her back. For camouflage aid, she has two natural growths on her shoulders that look like river weeds, and her fins are leaf-like and green colour. She has two large ear fins and one on her forehead, a small one just past the midway point on the back of her tail, and a large split tail fin.

Her face is fairly angular and she has a pointed nose. The sclera of her eyes is a very dark turquoise while her irises are an almost white yellow. She has naturally black lips, and two fangs that protrude from underneath them. Her hair is a dark turquoise much like her sclera, and she often wears it in a half-up-half-down look, using a decorative crown she found as a hair pin to hold it all in place. She wears a black banded top which gives the impression of a star over her chest, and it’s all held together in the centre by a gold ring which has a blue crystal dangling from it. She also wears gold jewellery around her waist.

TRIVIA
  • Despite being very intelligent, Silene doesn’t actually understand math or science at all. As far as she’s concerned, it’s a concept created by humans and isn’t important to her. The same goes with writing, she can’t write. It’s not something she’s ever needed to do and she doesn’t see the point in learning.
  • Despite not being able to write, she’s taught herself how to read. Books fascinate her and she’s managed to acquire quite the collection from her victims’ backpacks and the like. She finds it disappointing that they don’t fare well in the conditions of her cave, though, as they tend to deteriorate quite quickly.
  • She still has her childhood toy which was something that her mother had found while she was pregnant with her. It was a little garden ornament, which is now covered in algae. In order to keep it in good condition when she was too old for it she placed it out of water in a little airpocket in her bedroom.
  • She loves describing the details of the world around her to her blind girlfriend in as much detail as she can daily. It always puts a smile on both of their faces.
  • As likely expected, she’s completely 100% carnivorous.

ELORA - Girlfriend

Silene got to know Elora when she took over her mother’s duties. The other merwoman wasn’t a siren like herself, but a simple ground-dwelling eelmer who spent a lot of her time alone. It didn’t take Silene long to realise that she was blind, and took to working with her more to try and teach her to feel more comfortable moving about in other areas of the river system that she wasn’t used to and too nervous to venture to due to her lack of sight. During their time together they grew closer and closer before Elora eventually asked Silene to be her girlfriend, in which she happy agreed.

INGRID ANGORA - Mother

Silene has almost become the mother for her mother. She takes care of her every day, to the point where she’ll hand feed her and carry her to bed if she needs to. Ingrid appreciates every little thing her eldest does for her and it really makes her feel like she’s loved, even if she thinks that her illness is a burden on her daughter. Silene still very much looks up to her mother as a mentor and will regularly ask her for advice or help when she needs it. The two have a very strong bond and a fantastic relationship.

Harmony Angora - Girlfriend

Harmony and Silene don’t have a very good relationship anymore, but they used to be very close. The younger sibling always looked up to her older, and the two were basically inseparable. It wasn’t until Harmony got to know some of the sea-mermen by speaking to them at the intersection between where the river flows into the ocean, as her personality changed. She rebelled and Silene found herself furious with her and argued with her often. Eventually, Harmony left and Silene immediately regretted everything she’d ever said to her, knowing deep in her heart that her sister will ultimately perish in the ocean due to her being a freshwater siren, not saltwater. If her younger sister ever came back, she would apologise and forgive her before welcoming her back with open arms. She knows this is only a hope and nothing more.
