VeszRith is among the proud race of Doggoons which are a sub-species of Kobold in Lato. Like the Kimons, Doggoons and various other Kobold sub-species were displaced or slaughtered or even enslaved by the humans during an event called The Culling. It was a surprise attack that left Vesz without home or a family as many died in the village, which was founded by run away slaves. Vesz had been one of three pups that had escaped, or so he had thought. Their plan was to feign death, being young and naive of the ruthlessness of their enemies at the time. To ensure that the genocide was complete even the corpses were stabbed to prove their deaths. Vesz was the only one to survive the stab unflinching, and having to endure the sound of the other two weaker pups' screams as they were stabbed to death from giving into the pain. After the guild soldiers had left to move onto the next towns Vesz managed, from sheer dumb luck, to not get trampled by the horses and to get to the nearby human village that had remained untouched. There he passed out from a combination of shock, blood loss, and fatigue where he was later found by Milenko, an up and coming merchant who nursed him back to health. Milenko did not hold the same views as the guild that led The Culling and thus he raised Vesz despite his village's fears, claiming that if he kept Vesz as a "servant" then the guild would have nothing to say to him. This calmed the village enough to allow the Doggoon to stay, and they treated him as one of their own since they did not share the views of the guild, only agreeing enough so that they would not be harmed by their vicious ways. So Vesz lived a safe and normal life among these humans who had also started an orphanage for other refugees of The Culling. Eventually the village, known as Jagovec, rebelled against the guild entirely in keeping refugees and orphans of Kimon, Doggoons, and Kobold alike.

Before the revolution occurred, Vesz had met MiirRazylym who was one among the refugee Doggoon mercenaries. He had been hired by Milenko to be his bodyguard while the young Doggoon went on adventures deemed too dangerous for him. Their first meeting started off a little rocky to say the least though... Sanya was also hired by Milenko during this period to train Vesz to become an excellent lock pick and to prepare him for the future adventures and treasure hunting that the little Doggoon so desired. Even more friends were made along the way to include Pip and Na'im who became great friends for the aspiring treasure hunter.
