SUMMARY

Foxy is a member of Castiel's Sanctuary, born into Deserve's Army. He is the son of Sunset and Revengeheart. His mother planned for him to participate in the battle against the Clans, but he was born one moon late. Annoyed at the late birth of a single kit, Sunset saw him as a disappointment and simply called him "Kit", and the name stuck. The few times Sunset spoke of his father, she referred to him as "Strike", and Kit always assumed he'd been an Army cat.

He was often lonely and pushed away by the other soldiers, but he tried to stay optimistic. The only cat who liked his company was Owl, who taught him to hunt. Swiftstalker gave Kit the Winds of Darkness prophecy, but Kit shrugged it off as a weird dream.

During Rosemary's takeover, Owl died saving Kit, and he retreated with Castiel's Rebellion to a temporary camp. When Autumnpaw and Duskpaw arrived there wanting to help, he volunteered to spy on Rosemary's camp with them, and they formed a friendship.

He, Autumnpaw, and Duskpaw were caught spying and taken prisoner. Though reluctant and disturbed by the idea, he agreed to trick some of Rosemary's soldiers into eating foxglove seeds, killing five cats. Though he and his friends successfully escaped, he was horrified and shaken by his crime.

After returning to Castiel's camp and telling everyone about his trick, he was shocked to learn that his father was actually a ShadowClan cat named Revengeheart. Kit was praised for his bravery, and he took on a proper name: Foxy, in honor of his sneakiness.

Foxy fights bravely in the battle against Rosemary to protect those he cares about, and he saves the lives of many cats trapped in the fire. After celebrating Autumnfire and Duskmoon as warriors, Foxy is happy to hear Castiel's announcement of creating Castiel's Sanctuary, a place of peace and prosperity. Foxy thrives in this new environment, having fun, helping others, and feeling appreciated. He enjoys giving tours to newcomers.

Appearance

Foxy is a small white tom with ginger tabby patches, amber eyes.

Personality

“No! I mean, thank you, but I don’t want to be named after a poison! Something that kills? I don’t want the constant reminder of what I did. That’s not me. But… I do like to be sneaky, like a fox, to help the ones I care about…”  -Kit (Winds of Darkness, chapter 24)

Foxy is fun, spunky, and full of energy. He likes to play fight with his claws sheathed, as he doesn't like hurting others. He envies other cats for having loving parents or siblings and wishes his only kin, Sunset, would like him. In Deserve's Army, he was sometimes depressed and lonely, but pushef these feelings away to stay optimistic.

He was excited to meet Autumnpaw and Duskpaw and surprised to learn that Clan cats aren't as bad as he was raised to believe. He sees them as great friends and wishes he'd known them sooner. He admires their qualities and feels a sense of comfort and belonging around them. He trusts them with his life.

Once he learns to hunt, he becomes exceptional at it and takes pride in his skills. He's very sneaky and though he dislikes fighting, he can be very brave and stand up for himself in dire situations.

Mother

Sunset is Foxy's mother. Sunset understood the importance of having kits to provide cats for the battle against the Clans. As Mistybreeze kept refusing her assigned role, Sunset was more than willing to provide, mating with Revengeheart. When Kit was born a moon late and the only kit of his litter, she was annoyed and saw him as a disappointment, giving him his the name "Kit" carelessly. She nicknamed Revengeheart "Strike" and referred to him by this name a few times to Kit when he was little.

She then ignored him completely, only speaking to him again when he returned from spying on Rosemary's camp. She found it interesting he was finally displaying some of Revengeheart's qualities, revealing the details of his father's identity. As Kit changed his name to Foxy, Sunset was annoyed before giving him a nod of approval.

I don't see why she has to hate me for it. As if I had any control over when I was born! -Kit's thoughts

Father

Revengeheart is Kit's father. He grew up only knowing his father's name was "Strike", unaware this was a nickname. He always assumed his father had been an Army cat. When Mistybreeze continued refusing to have kits for the coming battle, Revengeheart and Poisonedsap decided he needed a backup plan. Sunset was more than willing to provide kits for the cause. She and Revengeheart mated and had a single kit together: Kit. He grew up never knowing the details about his father's identity. Eventually these details came to light, and Kit was shocked to learn his father had been a Clan cat.

"Back when we were Deserve’s Army, he was one of our allies. Many of us she-cats felt having kits was crucial to the plan, to provide more cats for battle. [...] Mistybreeze was supposed to mate with Revengeheart, but she wouldn’t. But Strike, err- Revengeheart knew how important having kits was. Poisonedsap told him he couldn’t waste any more time waiting for Mistybreeze. He needed a backup plan. So, he talked to me, and I was more than willing to provide.”  -Sunset (Winds of Darkness, chapter 24)

Kithood

Kit is born in Deserve's Army. His parents were Sunset and Revengeheart, who mated for the purpose of having kits who would participate in battle against the Clans. However Sunset only had a single kit, and he was born one moon after the battle, in which Revengeheart was killed. Annoyed at this, she saw the kit as a disappointment and didn't even care to give him a proper name, simply calling him Kit, and every cat accepted it as his name, even Kit himself.

Sunset referred to Revengeheart only a few times by his nickname, "Strike", and never cared to share any details with Kit other than he'd been killed in the battle against the Clans. Kit concluded his father, Strike, had been a soldier and never knew anything more about his identity.

Lonely Soldier

Sunset acts as if Kit doesn't exist, and most cats ignore and resent him for his playfulness and late birth. He hasn't even learned to hunt yet because Sunset hasn't made arrangements as parents usually do in the Army. Sunset never intended to hide Revengeheart's identity from him, she was just so distant she didn't care to talk about it.

The only cat who tolerates Kit is Owl. Though the old cat seems grumpy at his presence, he secretly cares for him. He gives Kit his first hunting lesson, and Kit proudly brings his first mouse to Song and her kits. Kit is aware of the other soldiers' impatience with Deserve's changing behavior, though he has never known the Army leader any other way.

Kit dreams he is chasing a butterfly, unaware he is in StarClan's hunting grounds. Swiftstalker tries to share the Winds of Darkness prophecy with him, but Kit is distracted by his butterfly and shrugs off what he believes to be a weird dream.

Changes

Owl continues giving Kit hunting lessons, and he's amazed at what he's learned. Kit is very proud that he's now able to catch birds. He gets the feeling Owl is enjoying his company though the old cat won't admit it. Kit wishes Owl were his father. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 5)

Kit is uneasy as Rosemary continues gaining popularity in the Army. One night he eevesdrops on Deserve's conversation with Castiel and is shocked to hear that the Army leader regrets his killing sprees and wonders if Clan cats really aren't all bad. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 8)

Kit happily approves of Deserve's vision for the future of the Army, but before he can put it to action, Rosemary kills him. The camp erupts into battle, and Kit is almost killed by Tornadowind, but Owl intervenes and is killed instead. Kit helps get Pinekit, Leafkit, and Waterkit out of the camp and mourns the loss of Owl and his home. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 8)

Temporary Camp

Castiel's Rebellion moves to a temporary camp in the woodland outside RiverClan territory. Kit misses Owl and his home terribly. He does his best to hunt and help provide for the group. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 12)

While hunting with Leopardthorn, Wolf, and Ivy, Kit is terrified when he accidentally crosses into RiverClan territory and is attacked by Thunderwater. His companions rush over, and Wolf unintentionally kills Thunderwater. Kit feels guilty about his death and wonders if the Clan cats really aren't so different from them. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 12)

Kit continues feeling guilty for causing Thunderwater's death. But as Pinekit, Leafkit, and Waterkit express interest in learning to hunt, Kit brightens and takes the opportunity to teach them, just as Owl taught him. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 17)

While out training the three, he's frozen when Rosemary and some of her soldiers appear and order him to take them to their camp. Feeling there's no option, Kit obeys, and he's dismayed to hear Rosemary is planning on convincing the Clans that Castiel is on her side, severing any hope of creating an alliance. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 17)

Spying

Kit is hunting in the woodland when he finds Autumnpaw and Duskpaw, and he confronts them bravely. Upon hearing they're peaceful and want to talk to Castiel, he's hopeful that the Clans have decided to help them after all. After Autumnpaw proposes spying on Rosemary's camp to find her weakness, Kit volunteers because he's good at being sneaky. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 21)

On the way to Rosemary's camp, Kit talks to Autumnpaw and Duskpaw and is pleasantly surprised to hear their way of life isn't so different. He quickly takes a liking to them and wishes he'd known friends like them sooner. When Autumnpaw tells him about StarClan, he wonders if Owl could really still be out there somewhere. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 21)

He and his companions spy on Rosemary's camp and discover she has a fear of twolegs. But before they can leave with this information, they are discovered and taken prisoner. Kit is frightened and mourns the death of Leopardthorn. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 21)

A Dark Trick

As Kit and his friends figure out what to do, he's shocked and horrified when Autumnpaw suggests he trick the injured soldiers into eating foxglove seeds. The idea of hurting a cat, let alone killing them shakes him to his core, but thinking of the cats at home counting on his return and the cats who have died at Rosemary's command already, he shakily agrees to the plan.

He convinces the guards he has to use the dirtplace, and while Autumnpaw and Duskpaw stage a fight to distract the guards, Kit collects foxglove seeds from the plant and goes to the soldiers: Coke, Battalon, and Luna. Though he's nervous out of his mind, he keeps his panic under control and puts on a sympathetic act as he offers them poppy seeds for their pain.

The guards: Blinding Sun and Seth, see what's happening and question him, but thanks to Amberrose and Foxshadow's poor knowledge of herbs, they confirm they're poppy seeds. Kit feels sick and full of dread as the five cats eat the poisonous seeds, and as they collapse dying, he and his friends escape.

Kit feels terrible and shaken by his crime, but he thinks of all the cats he will now save with the knowledge they gathered.

New Identity

When Kit returns to Castiel's camp with Autumnpaw and Duskpaw, He is a little ashamed and embarrassed as his friends reveal how he poisoned Rosemary's soldiers. His campmates are surprised and impressed by the scheme, and Sunset comments it's interesting he's finally showing some of his father's traits. Kit is shocked his mother is actually talking to him, and after asking if Strike was manipulative, he's astonished to learn that "Strike" was actually a nickname for a Clan cat named Revengeheart. Sunset explains the details of his parentage.

Autumnpaw and Duskpaw protest Sunset's treatment of Kit and insist he have a real name that reflects who he is. His campmates suggest "Foxglove" after his trick, but Kit anxiously rejects being named for something that kills. But he does like being sneaky to help the cats he cares about, so he happily accepts Autumnpaw's suggestion of "Foxy". He is overwhelmed with happiness and a sense of individuality as the cats cheer his new name.

Defeating Rosemary

Foxy and all of Castiel's Rebellion head to Fourtrees to put their plan to action. He's nervous, but determined. They arrive just as Rosemary launches her attack and sets fire to the clearing, and while Autumnpaw runs to find the twolegs, Foxy and Duskpaw help those trapped in the fire.

Though Foxy feels guilty as he harms his enemies, he fights hard to protect the cats he cares about. He saves Tigerpaw, Nightpaw, and Burningkit from the fire, and though he suffers burns to his pads, he's happy to be helping cats instead of killing them like in Rosemary's camp. After Rosemary is defeated, Foxy is relieved and happy at the lives they saved.

As Duskpaw and Autumnpaw guide Foxy to the stream where he can soothe his pads, he's shocked when Swiftstalker's spirit appears, praising them on fulfilling a prophecy Foxy never knew about. Swiftstalker explains that each cat embraced their dark heritage to stop Rosemary. Foxy was manipulative and cruel like Revengeheart when he poisoned Rosemary's soldiers.

Foxy is overjoyed to learn Duskpaw is his half uncle, but they choose to see each other as brothers. Before Swiftstalker leaves, Foxy is glad to hear Owl is happy somewhere in an afterlife, and Foxy intends to catch him a meal one day when they meet again.

He celebrates the warrior ceremonies of Duskmoon and Autumnfire and is happy as Castiel announces his group will become Castiel's Sanctuary, a place of peace instead of war.

Castiel's Sanctuary

Foxy thrives in the Army camp Castiel has made into a Sanctuary. He feels appreciated, part of the community, and loves helping other cats instead of hurting them. Song becomes a sort of motherly figure, looking out for him and supporting him. Castiel also takes great pride in him as a father would.

He loves being able to help other cats and provide for the group. When guests or new cats arrive, Foxy is often the first to greet them and he enjoys giving them tours of the camp. He's happy when Castiel and Tansy's kits are born, and when Autumnfire visits. He doesn't understand why the Warrior Code forbids relationships between Clans and thinks nothing should interfere with love.

Trivia

  • Kit wished Owl were his father, thinking him as the closest he had to kin in the Army. (Winds of Darkness, chapter 5)
  • Foxy sees Autumnfire and Duskmoon like siblings.
  • Kit's name was originally going to be Foxglove, but it didn't suit his kind nature.
  • My first design for him was a black-and-white cat, but I felt this might give away his parentage. This was also before I finalized the "pelts of gold" prophecy.
