The lead singer and frontman of an up-and-coming goth-punk band, Strangeh8, Farad, better known as Slice, is a vampire with a chip (or two, or three) on his shoulder. A lifetime troublemaker, he’s spent his short years on and off the radar of authorities of every level, fighting against everyone, but particularly himself, as he tries to find his place in the world.

An energy-feeding vampire, Slice adores the spotlight. He has a powerful voice, and an overwhelming stage presence that some might call haunting. What he gives off, the crowd returns three-fold. He leaves a strong impression on everyone he meets, and there’s no denying that his flightless wings will be what carries the band to the top… As long as he doesn’t crash and burn along the way.

Dramatic is the primary word to describe Slice. True to his nature, he has a knack for blowing things out of proportion, and loves to purposely get himself and others into sticky situations. He is quick to anger and quicker to a fight, even though he isn't the best as winning them, a fact that often sees him laid out on the pavement. Despite this, he has a magnetism that draws people to him, and a presence that can fill the room, if he so chooses.

Despite his host of flaws, he does have a softer side. He is slow to acknowledge feelings of affection, but once he does he is devoted, at times overwhelmingly so. He is sensitive to others' emotions, but just as good at ignoring them if it doesn't suit his purposes, and so often comes off as callous without knowing it. Those who can get close enough to him to break the walls down, however, will find an intelligent, gentle, and artistic soul beyond the abrasive layers.

Background

Born into a home where the normal rules seemed not to apply, Farad grew up the only child of a young couple, not prepared for parenthood or family life. Constantly starved for attention, and never given the proper guidance in coping with his innate abilities, he acted out, finding ways to rile up others just to get a spark. He got himself in trouble with school, the law, and anyone else along the way, and never regretted a single moment, even as the consequences piled on.

Most would say it's a wonder he's survived this long, but he'd say he's just lucky like that.

Following his young years marked by trouble, Slice eventually found a salvation in music, a pursuit that had always been one of his only place of comforts. With the help of his best friend, Dree, a buddy from high school and former partner in a schoolmate's short-lived ensemble, the two finally sparked up the drive to start a band of their own, Farad assuming the stage name Slice—a name which is ultimately not as cool as he originally thought it would be, but he’s too fond of it to give it up now.

As the pair soldiered on, the band grew, changing form as they found their sound and their voice, though their shifting syle remains up in the air even now. Farad’s troubles haven’t faded, but he’s found good friends, people with far better heads on their shoulders than him who are there to support him. He has a particularly good friend (with benefits) in L.P., a young DJ from a world very different from his own, but there is something about him that captivates Farad to no end.

With so many attractive people and such a big world out there, what's a young psyvamp to do? Keep on dreaming, and keep on pushing for the top—or else die trying.

Trivia

Besides singing, Slice is also a competent keyboard player and lyricist, and is the primary composer of many of the band's songs. His other creative hobbies are art and writing. He has a vocal range of nearly four octaves. He has dabbled in guitar as well, but does not consider himself to be very good at it yet.

He was expelled from high school in the middle of his junior year for continued disruptive behavior and general insubordination. Surprisingly, his unrequited crush on his sophomore history teacher was never acted on, and so did not contribute to this.

Cycles through a variety of part time jobs, lately is most frequently employed in the stock room at the music shop; despite being generally outgoing his demeanor leaves him unsuited to customer service work, so he's been banned from working the front of the store. Frequently takes late shifts.

Doesn't drive because he doesn't have a car... or a license. An avid frequenter of public transportation.

In addition to his primary stage name, he also goes by the pseudonym Saffari (Farad Riorin -> Far Ri -> -fari) in his work with LP. The nickname 'Slice' first came about when he started to seriously follow rock bands around middle school, and invented his own budding stage persona to match. It Stuck.

Has a small hoard of notebooks from his younger days with excrutiatingly Edgy writings and various personal manifestos scribbled in them. This collection is never to see the light of day (or so he might hope).

Currently lives in a small townhouse with three housemates. Was expelled from his previous shared apartment when his then collection of exotic, illegal insects was discovered by the building manager, and he refused to get rid of them. (The bugs were later gifted to a friend.)

Has a possibly unhealthy obsession with skulls and will collect anything with the motif. His otherwise excellent interior design sense suffers for it, many would argue.

Has at least once gotten drunk and fallen asleep in a dumpster.

Though like most mortals Slice is sustained off of normal food primarily, a deficit in absorbed psychic energy will leave him with a flagging physical state and lethargy, nausea and lightheadedness in some extreme cases. In these events he becomes especially aggravated and unpleasant to deal with; thankfully by now he is generally in tune enough with his own state to prevent this ahead of time. By contrast, absorbing too much energy at once will leave him euphoric and disoriented, in a state of sensory overload, at times to the point of blacking out. This is arguably more dangerous than his low-intake state because he remains physically capable, but without general presence of mind.

Has a strong work ethic, but only when it comes to things that personally motivate and interest him.

Comes from an incredibly dysfunctional household, which contributed to many of his early behavioral issues. Now that he has grown some and has a regular outlet for his energy and frustration, he has settled down some, but is still quick to anger, though others often have to urge him to mind his Ps and Qs, and not add to the record that he already accrued in his youth thanks to juvenile run-ins with the law.

Has not overtly used his thrall ability in many years, but often inadvertently and reflexively activates it in a low level while performing on stage, which even he is unaware of. Because it has not adversely affected anyone, it has largely gone unnoticed, and not been brought to his attention.

Tends to be thought of as a control freak when it comes to his music, because of the intensity of his creative vision, when he is in fact usually quite open to suggestions... so long as he trusts your judgement.

Could capably contribute to the band's instrumentation via keytar if he so desired, but refuses to because it looks incredibly dorky.

Has a kink or two in the bridge of his nose from having been punched in the face—more than once.

Description

Physically, Slice is a smallish person, of slightly below average height and slight build. He typically wears loose shirts and tight pants, disguising his small frame but still bowing to fashion, favouring longer garments to shield his sensitive skin from the sun. His hair is usually combed forward with an undercut, but occasionally pulled back into a short ponytail. His wardrobe consists mainly of goth/scene-type garb, with lots of dark shades and too many fasteners—with only those in the back of his shirts being necessary, to allow his wings to poke comfortably through.
