- The scar across his eye is from before the apocalypse, from around when he was 12 years old. It impacts his vision greatly, but he's learned to deal with it since then.
- The scarring across his right shoulder and back is from another Waster later in the apocalypse, briefly before he and Nix decide to move away.
- Sparks used to play baseball before his vision was impacted!
- The nickname "Sparks" is his way of reclaiming the trauma he went through in his teenage years.
- He was put through the graduated electronic decelerator as punishment for "going against God" as a gay man. His bright ginger hair was one of a kind in his family, and he was soon marked as "devilspawn" and shunned, thrown into conversion therapy.
- The graduated electronic decelerator is described to be a "torture device" by the United Nations.
- Sparks does have self-harm scars on his arms, waist and thighs. If you're not comfortable drawing them, you don't have to, but he does have them.
Despite his awful upbringing, Sparks has made the choice to find the best in every situation. He just wants to love and be loved. Maybe someone will do that for him.

Sparks was initially incredibly embarrassed to be found beaten up on the streets by Nix, unwilling to take up more space than necessary. But he quickly warmed up to the kid, looking for an out and a guide through the city. Sparks cares greatly for Nix as a little sibling, and grows even more protective over them as the apocalypse gets worse. He wishes he could have been there for their death.
After finding Arin alone on the streets as he once was, Sparks quickly took Arin under his wing. He soon helped pay for Arin's GED and further education, as well as eventually paying for Arin's own trailer so he could move out and live on his own securely. Losing contact in the apocalypse was predicted, and Sparks wanted to find him before he lost him, but when he and Nix approached Arin's town, they found the place practically torn to rubble. Unsure where else he could have been, Sparks simply just had to trust that Arin would be okay, wherever he was.
Sparks was extremely flattered by Conner's flirtatiousness, and decided to take him up on his offer to date. While dating Conner was very nice, Sparks simply didn't...feel right. But, no matter Sparks' inner conflict, Conner didn't deserve the fate Sparks witnessed.
The pair seem pretty nice! They were apologetic for needing Tuckers' help, offering food and extra blankets for the trouble.
Sparks really, truly loved Alex. He wanted to be the best he could possibly be for Alex, promising lifetimes of love and care. The isolation after Nix's death drove Sparks near-insane, desperately wishing for Alex's familiar comfort yet feeling he didn't deserve anything of the sort. When he left his life behind in the shadows of midnight, he almost couldn't bear to look at Alex, yet he did, memorizing every last freckle on his skin, his heart shattering apart with every second. He left Alex, and the other campers, a note apologizing as many times as he could for doing this to him, praying that they would understand why he couldn't bear to be near anymore. He thinks of Alex near daily, as much as he tries to run from his past. He prays Alex doesn't hate him.
Desperate to hide from what he'd done to Alex, Sparks had landed himself on Jays doorstep. Jay seemed to understand the grief on Sparks' shoulders, but Sparks did everything and anything to avoid the topic. The couple spent a few nights together until Sparks finally cracked and broke down, and Jay consoled him the best to their ability. Sparks left soon after, unwilling to find himself vulnerable again.
The boy he'd met in his section of the government facility after the apocalypse caught his attention, as exhausted as he was. Something about him was incredibly familiar, and Sparks had to find more, addicted to the feeling he'd been missing for so long. As hesitant as he initially was, terrified he'd ruin this one too, the couple seemed to be the perfect fit for one another, beginning to finally heal old wounds. Tyler had started seeking him out more and more often, and Sparks always waited for him.
