- A die-hard otaku and girls' love enthusiast.
- She is rather bright and was known for making good grades throughout her academic career.
- She is embarrassed to admit it, but her favorite food is curry rice because Akiko would often make it for her whenever she got sick when she was younger.
Despite her looks, Mari can best be described as a no-frills and doesn’t-tolerate-any-bullshit kind of girl. She works as a private investigator who aids in crime scene investigation in Tokyo, Japan. Outside of her job, she often tables at Comiket to sell erotic girls' love doujinshi she draws herself.
Mari has always enjoyed drawing from a young age. When her older sister would read to her when she was younger, Mari would take the picture books and redraw illustrations from them to the best of her ability. Generally receiving praise for her talent in art, Mari was convinced that she would study an art-related field in college. As for specifics, particularly "Something that would make people smile!" as said in her words.
After entering middle school, Mari was always put in advanced classes by her parents in hopes of becoming as bright as her older sister Akiko. Although Mari was able to match her sister's academics, it began to take a toll on her over time. Spending less time with her family and more time on schoolwork began to sadden her. Mari receives a great amount of scholarship money for her art throughout middle and high school. However, because her father refuses to let Mari go into an art-related field rather than a more professional field like her older sister, Mari's father steals her scholarship money, destroys her art supplies, and ravages her workspace; leaving her no choice but to move out after turning 20 years-old out of humiliation.
Once Mari moves into an apartment of her own, she takes a year off from college in order to gather her thoughts and formulate a plan for the future. Despite dropping out and giving up her dream of majoring in an art-related field, Mari continues to create art to reminisce about the girl she loved in high school; hoping she can recreate the same romantic feelings she once felt in the form of art.
Mari's older sister. Despite being embarrassed by her sister's affection towards her at times, Mari cares about Akiko in just the same manner. She is overprotective of Akiko to an extent, saying "If you're mean to her, I'll kill you".
As soon as Yusuimaru and Mari saw each other, it was love at first sight for the girl. She was almost at a loss with herself at how head-over-heels she was for a complete stranger at the time. She finds Yusuimaru incredibly attractive physically and is deeply concerned for her well-being. Interestingly enough, mauve, Mari's favorite color, is the same as Yusuimaru's eye color.
Though she received a fair amount of teasing when she first began her job, she and Kagi get along well. After all, she owes them for being a wingman to her and Yusuimaru. They probably wouldn't be dating if Kagi hadn't intervened.
