- Before becoming a detective, Yusuimaru was formerly a teaching assistant to a professor at the university she attended.

A workaholic who hasn't quite shaken off a couple of bad habits of hers. She aids in suspect questioning and crime scene investigation at a private investigator agency in Tokyo, Japan. Due to becoming a social recluse after the sudden death of her parents, Yusuimaru finds it difficult to open up to others in fear of something terrible happening to them that is outside of her control.
When her mother and father brought up the idea to settle down and start a family, they received heavy backlash from their relatives, saying that the two were far too financially unstable to do so. Despite opposition from their relatives, the two move into a small home in the countryside and have a child together. No matter how hard her parents worked, they were always one paycheck away from poverty. Despite barely being able to make ends meet, however, Yusuimaru and her family were always happy. Around the age of 12, the family of three eventually move out from rural Fukushima to the urban city of Tokyo, where her parents are being promised high-paying jobs once they relocate.
On Yusuimaru's 15th birthday, her parents were involved in a fatal accident involving a train derailing off its tracks; leaving both of their bodies never to be found in the rubble that ensued. Although her grandparents offer to take custody of Yusuimaru after the death of her parents, she declines their offer and instead proceeds to live a life of solitude in the home her parents worked so hard for.
After knowing Kagi for almost five years, Yusuimaru considers no one other than them to be her best friend. Initially, she was intimidated by their extroverted personality, but as the two began to work together, their different personalities became less of an obstacle in their relationship. Rather, they complemented one another. Kagi has countless stories about her, both wholesome and embarrassing.
When Yusuimaru and Mari first met, Yusuimaru was a bit standoffish, but as the two worked together more, she began to feel Mari's affection for her and reciprocate it as well. Slowly, she let go of her fears of getting close to people and let Mari into her heart. Now they are happily dating and couldn't imagine life without each other.
After Yusuimaru and Mari started dating, Mari introduced her to Akiko. Mari was not sure how well Yusuimaru and Akiko would get along, but after a few visits, she was pleasantly surprised. Since they were in the same age group and had similar interests and hobbies, they were able to get along well. They sometimes go out for drinks together.
