A go-with-the-flow wandering inventor.
A nerdy and obviously self-educated (mechanical) engineer, who loves travelling — and, thankfully, she doesn't need to do it on her own anymore, as the Mojave is a dangerous place for a lone wanderer. She's happy to explore the wasteland, collecting some old and/or potentially useful stuff most people would describe as useless garbage. She has no great goal in life, or, maybe, she just *afraids* to be ambitious and then fail proving that certain people from her past life might be right about her? Haha, well, who knows! In any case, she's glad to be there and just vibe somewhere around the greater events she never planned to be a part of. For now, Val tries to have some good time and to enjoy smaller things in the company of her new-found friends!
Childhood
A sheltered farmer girl with two siblings, her quirky mom and whatever-man she dates at a period of time. Stuff is normal, more or less, until her annoying little brother gets into trouble [because she was too busy and not-interest to watch over the rascal that day >:<] and their elder sister gets seriously hurt in that incident. Awkward self-justifications aside, she will never really forgive herself for this.
She desperately wants to leave to see, what the world outside their little ranch is like, with her own eyes. Distant lights of Vegas at the night sky look only more tempting with every passing day, calling her with their odd sirensong. Take your chance, you silly little moth.
Hit the road
Short period of wandering/scavenging on her own until she gets to Freeside and meets Pat. She hangs out with her until one really bad fight makes them separate their ways.
Follower of the Apocalypse
In a shitty crysis post-breakup times she needs a new goal in her life. To make a change. A New Mormon Fort gives her a chance to be helpful, and a great community, which she really appreciates. She learnes first aid, but prefers hanging out in archieve.

● Build notes: 174 cm | 5' 8''. Average build (closer to slim by that plot point), actually rather fit and has some muscles.
● Her skin tone is somewhat tan.
● Facial notes: Triangular face shape, average straight nose, very dark eyes [so her eye pupils are barely visible, if visible at all] with eyebags
● Scars: Old and rather big one on her left arm + may have some smaller random ones all over her body
● Hair: Relatively messy straight hair which are totally fine to be styled however! May be an undercut (shaved temples) or just have shorter/trimmed hair on her temples
● Clothing style: Anything not looking very fancy? Comfy stuff, often layered [as she loves jackets So Much] and mostly of earthy tones. She loves everything practical and baggy, especially with lots of pockets. Style-wise, it's mostly something military, casual or pilot-like. She customizes clothes, so patches and pins are 100% appropriate.
● Impression: A chill gal; VERY active and chaotic gesticulation + changes her pose really often
● Weapon notes: A varmint rifle and some folding knife? She doesn’t like to use them although fidgeting knife in hands or monotonous tinkering with a gun feels nice.
● May paint her nails black sometimes.
● Feel free to draw her with body hair and generally not-perfect skin if it fits your artstyle!
● There's no need to colorpick from her references, just try to keep the approximate colors/shades ratio recognizable and you cool.

Colors and style experiments, including light design simplification, alternative palettes or anything like this, just make sure you keep them recognizable. I'm absolutely cool with eyestrain, glitches and any post-correction effects, go ham!
In general, well, you have artistic freedom until you conflict with already written information! I'm really curious to see your headcanons unless it doesn't cross her canonical lore!

It depends
I'm really *not* into pride flag-centric art. I don't mind respective pride flags being included as idk patches/pins on clothes for modern/second half of XX century versions of her, being overall small like colored heart or smth or being used as overall palettes for drawing if you feel like it, but pride avatars or the whole background being pride flag image is not really my cup of tea.
AUs — I'm 100% cool with references to these media, modern aus and survival stuff like zombie apocalypse aus maybe. Other aus/crossovers/etc are 'better ask first' (not if we're pals though, have fun however you want if we know each other <з)
Suggestive stuff is cool as a part of ship art with characters I pair her with [mentioned as their current/ex partners or just in ‘yeah you can ship them’ kind of context], as for bunny suits and stuff like that or 'sexual' posing
I'm only okay with shipping our OCs if we know each other and I'd still prefer to be asked about it beforehand, k?

Please try your best to avoid major design mistakes and drawing obviously out of character things — stylization is fine, though, I'm talking about drastic change of body type or skin tone, hair texture, erasing notable facial features and so on. Just read the design notes, I’ve mentioned all the important things to keep in mind there.
Overall, don't erase characters’ identity. Don't change gender, race (and species in general, unless I specifically asked for it) and sexuality of the character.
Fetish art, even if overall SFW.
Very cruel and graphical gore with character going through fatal injuries like losing body parts.

Originally, Jack was Pat's travelling companion. Val really wanted to hit the road and to get some new well-needed materials for her works, but it was obviously too risky for her to go alone. Thankfully, two more experienced travellers happened to find her themselves, when the came to Gibson scrap yard for details for ?? their robot? She was SO hyped and so eager to join them and so happy Jack and Jer were kind enough to let her tag along!
Jack was, well, an intriguing one. To find her out felt like a challenge of sorts. The two got along surprisingly fine, considering Jack's generously unfriendly attitude with...Basically anyone else, at this point? It felt flattering to be the one she at least didn't mind to hang around. Several times spent together and several Dangerous Shit survived together as well, Val's became So very not normal about her friend. Haha that's just basically hot to be brave and confident just saying, isn't Jack cool 💋 Even though Valerie still struggled to understand her motives occasionally and even though her destructive tendencies definitely made her worried. But, hey, she's her friend, of course she would be there to help her to work on it (there is the I can fix her component in their dynamic for sure. good luck, i guess?).
They end up being partners and Val's so obviously head over heels that's insufferable. Which is mutual (which makes it even more insufferable).

They first met in their early 20s, when Valerie recently got into Freeside. Someone told Valerie she should probably contact some Patrice for some yet to be specified reason (either her knowing someone Val tried to find or her hacker skills, but in any case something related to Pat Knowing Stuff), and Val didn't recognise her at first, because Patrice is unisex name in English and masculine in French, and Val is. French. So she assumed she must be looking for a guy. She also accidentally misspelled her name as Patric and Pat found it so hilarious she snatched the patric thing as her nickname. The two got along surprisingly well, speedran besties stage and came to an awkward romance that would mostly look like a bromance with weird boundaries. Although Pat might have been too into fooling around and light mockery at times (like. she couldn't help herself, younger Val Was the funniest person ever to her and she caused her cute aggression), but Val was very obviously Pat's closest person, which, well, was Obviously mutual.
Val noticed with time how much Pat's health and attitude to life were not okay, why she'd prefer to just ignore it or to joke about it (usually highly sarcastic and dark jokes None but Pat herself would laugh at). Which of course concerned Valerie. She tried to offer her help and (unsolicited) advice, feeling bitter and generally bad about her helplessness in that situation. Pat, pushed away with unwanted attention with the parts of herself she hated to address, and who also felt overprotection and attempts of control/telling her what to do, would snap out at her. Nobody liked that and both felt guilty and frustrated. So one day Val left, emotionally blurting out that it doesn't matter if Pat won't move to save her life, that just means that Valerie will go and find the answers herself. And, well, they didn't see each other until the fnv plot happened.
To see Pat again after all these years down the line felt cathartic. And very, very awkward, considering that impulsive promise her younger idealistic self has given back then. But Pat held no grudges and was just as happy to know Valerie was alright, like, yeah, chill out, savior girl, the madman promise you gave is not the one any living person could ever keep. So both of them were just very happy to have a second chance.
Jeremy
(former?) best friend
Her travelling partner along with Jack who she liked basically right away. Jeremy was such a nice and cheerful person with a very witty sense of humour, basically the best person to travel with, in her opinion. Also WHAT DO YOU MEAN he was a Follower of the Apocalypse earlier in his life as well? It's so great to find someone with at least similar background, as it gives so many shared interests/topics to discuss! Val sincerely enjoyed their nerdy talks about subjects one of them might be not very good at but would be still interested to listen to and vice versa. And although Val might have noticed Jeremy wasn't as chatty and open about his own life, well, that's not a crime to have secrets, right?
They didn't interact much after it became known that he tricked her and Jack which was...Very painful to realise. It was mostly about Jack, though, who Jeremy did especially dirty. Val herself was at least not that deep into the wasteland politics to feel offended with his (no) fraction choice itself. So she kind of hated to choose the side between her girlfriend and her best friend. So she at least tried to...balance? Val still visited Jeremt several times to check out how he's doing. Both of them obviously missed each other a lot, but some things are just very hard to fix, especially if one of them would rather spend his time self-isolating and self-flagellating, instead of making a first move to do something about the whole situation. Or at least to accept a helping hand.
In retrospect, Val still feels very bitter and confused. She doesn't believe there was no option to tell her at least something. They would probably come to something less...damaging. She feels a bit guilty about not being trustworthy or maybe discerning enough to make at least any change back then. But, well, that sheep has already sailed anyway.

Linds is her best friend since Val's follower of the apocalypse arc! She didn't see her in a while, but in post-canon has an opportunity to hang out with her again

She's her... granny figure? In general, she's very attached to Lady Gibson, although she just lets the girl to rummage through her trash and to play with her robot dogs. And she also doesn't seem to mind her chaotic chatter (although she hardly understands most of it), for which Val is very grateful.

At the old Mormon fort, Val spent noticeably more time in the archives than with the doctors, so of course she's seen the head archivist quite a lot. And perhaps sometimes she was too intrusive in her awkward attempts to make a good impression.
They actually had *mutual* interest, but it was a long time ago, Extremely awkward, they never discussed it properly, so it barely counts. And it looked like the most clownish pinning in the world of two overwrought ladies who were too afraid to seem too stupid and clingy. And to be misunderstood.

Since there's no proper therapy in the post-apocalyptic states, communication with a stunningly charismatic middle-aged bartender is the best alternative available. They're friends, and Val's a huge fan of Irene's energy and optimistic attitude.

As a [technically] neighbours, they sometimes cross paths and chat a little. Valerie knows her story, albeit in general terms, and she is terribly sorry. And honestly, she tries her best to keep her interest in her mechanical arm at a *normal* level and not to look freaky. She considers Sarah a good friend.

Egh. They didn't get along even when the historical reenactment festival runaway aspiring legionnaire was a normal, naughty kid. Then they didn't see each other for years, and both of them changed a lot during that time. So now they're strangers, albeit with an annoyingly personal shared background [love it when fucked up siblings].
She still feels guilty about the time her unwillingness to look after her brother almost got Robert killed, and left their elder sister injured and blinded. And, well, she's sort of sorry for whatever happened to the guy's brains if he decided to join the Legion in search of self-validation. But whatever. He made his decision, and he's not her brother anymore.
