ATTENTION: The fan story of Beasts, Gods, and Snow features themes such as: canon-typical suicidality and violence, and possible spoilers for Rain World and Rain World Downpour.

SETTING

A Local Group consisting of three Iterator cans located in a northern region just at the base of mountains. The Ancients’ city is just as populated and abandoned as anywhere else in the world, with concrete buildings toppled over, frozen, eroded by the harsh wind, and covered in pine trees and other shrubbery exclusive to tundra. The city served partially as a mining operation – building the iterators required a ton of resources, and those had to come from somewhere. An impressive maze of tunnels and dig sites can be found closer to the mountains and really anywhere under the city. Some tunnels were transformed into underground homes.

The region extends beyond the tundra, into the vast but empty fields of taiga. There you can find a massive lake which does not freeze until the coldest months of the year due to the natural hot springs located under it. Warm enough not to freeze, but still very cold, especially at the surface.

Instead of rain, the land is plagued by snow, hail, and frequent blizzards which replace the rain Cycle. Creatures have to dart indoors to keep warm.

Speaking of creatures, I’d imagine Rain Deer are quite a common sight there. Lizards would have furry variants to stay warm, with the exception of Black Lizards who live in warmer caves. Bugs are very scarce, and almost purely exclusive to the underground. Pole Plants and Monster Kelp mimic pine trees. The wild variant of Slugcats is furry, white, and sprouts antlers. Different branches may also have fangs, defined claws, or aquatic features to live in the lake. Blind Mole Slugcats are also present. Still, Slugcats aren’t as common here as they are in the main game lore-wise.

There are three Iterators present in the area: Seven Tails of Seven Comets [7T7C or Comet], Pine Needles Bound in Red [PNBR or Pine], and Hint of Ichor [HOI or Hint].

PINE NEEDLES BOUND IN RED

Pine Needles Bound in Red is the local senior and the first Iterator to be built. They were mostly built to see if an Iterator can could withstand the harsh environment, be it eroding wind, blizzards, and avalanches. They are located directly next to the city. Thus, the Ancients made them smaller and left them to focus on the Great Problem.

HINT OF ICHOR

Hint of Ichor was built not long after, a massive display of wealth and resources the Ancients’ possessed. On top of being tasked with the Great Problem, their facility also doubled as a place to distribute resources and tasks pertaining to the local mining operation. Inside of their can and in the underground tunnels right below it lies a vast amount of rooms and equipment – used for developing new mining technology, storing the equipment, and transporting it around. They are located just past the lake.

SEVEN TAILS OF SEVEN COMETS

Seven Tails of Seven Comets was built last, when the Ancients were getting desperate and were using up all of their resources to build Iterators. Their can is small, even smaller than Pine’s, housing only the required features and nothing extra. They are located just at the base of the mountains, outside the city.

GETTING TO HINT OF ICHOR

In order to reach Hint of Ichor’s can, the player can select different routes which vary in difficulty and length, and depend on the current Slugcat’s abilities.

Solitary Settlement: Accessible to anyone. An Ancients’ settlement built around the large lake in the middle. The area is populated by Lizards, Scavengers, Rain Deer and Arctic Worm Grass, and while it’s not the most difficult to traverse through, it is by far the longest route.

High-Voltage Lines: Accessible only by Oil Spill due to their ability to glide between broken off lines. It is short but parkour-heavy, with the promise of death by drowning if you fall down.

Lake: Accessible only by The Acolyte. As the only Slugcat capable of swimming, The Acolyte can quickly swim through the icy-cold waters, avoiding aquatic predators and underwater Monster Kelp.

Thermal Vents and Wasteland: Accessible to anyone, best suited for The Beast. A middle of the road route when it comes to time taken to get through it, it is however dark and houses threats of predators such as Black Lizards and Centipedes, and environmental hazards such as unsafe vents, deep waters, and black, infected water.

CAMPAIGN DETAILS

It would play as a DLC to Rainworld.

The main difference is that the storylines of The Acolyte, Oil Spill, and the Beast aren’t separate – they are intertwined. You have to switch between the Slugcats in order to progress the main storyline, as just one cannot achieve everything.

You start the game with Acolyte, then unlock Oil Spill, then The Beast.

The other main difference is that the main game really focuses on surviving in a dangerous environment, with sparse interactions with the Iterators. Here, interacting and helping the Iterators is vital, but the individual stories of the Slugcats and the aspect of survival aren’t forgotten.

One last thing: The story is meant to show how wild beasts and Gods interacting doesn’t always lead to good things. The gap between them is enormous, after all.
