"I like him, okay? Ugh, it's so embarrassing to admit, given that he's -- he's Aaron, of all people. Like, he's always smiling and he acts like a dog, half the time, which wouldn't look good on anybody else -- not that it looks good on him! No!"
---
While Duncan would never admit it, he genuinely really enjoys Aaron's physical contact and presence -- to the point where he'll sometimes just go stand close to or next to Aaron, expecting Aaron to read his mind and know that he needs a hug. He's easily flustered whenever Aaron flirts with him in public, wanting to maintain his precious image of professionalism in front of other people. In private, however, he's much more willing to reciprocate Aaron's affections. Duncan always finds it difficult to express in words just how much he cares for Aaron.
"Why, I must be the luckiest person in the world to have met somebody like Donut! The look on his face whenever I'm flirting with him is always so funny! It's cute, too -- but he'd get so annoyed if I told him that, heh."
---
Aaron's incredibly affectionate with Duncan -- Duncan's his favorite person in the world, after all. He's enamored by almost everything Duncan does, finding his prickly exterior to be cute and even charming (especially when given the fact that it hides such a soft heart). Aaron's always the one flirting with Duncan in public, reaching out to grab his hand and interrupt his work and call him pet names in front of other people, often to Duncan's chagrin. It feels like he can almost read Duncan's mind, at times, knowing exactly when Duncan's looking for affection or attention that Aaron's more than happy to provide.
"Ever since we first met, she's always been such a pest. She wasn't just copying my notes and my homework when we were in school -- she would do it without asking me, just to annoy me! Have you ever met anybody so rude?"
---
Chanto and Duncan have been bickering ever since the two of them were in college together. Duncan, being the better student between the two of them, would often make fun of Chanto for how heavily she relied on his notes, only to get into fights with her: he two of them would punch each other and pull at each other's clothes and hair, like they were siblings. Even though they're in a work setting, now, this behavior hasn't gotten better -- it's just been confined behind closed doors. Deep down, Duncan appreciates Chanto's presence and the fact that Chanto's stayed, despite all their arguments. He just can't say it out loud.
"This motherfucker. Someone needs to take the stick out of his ass because wow, I've been trying since we've met and he's still just as annoying as ever! Heheh, I just find it fun to mess with him. He tries soooo hard to be soooo serious, but it's so easy to annoy him!"
---
Chanto's made it her personal mission to annoy Duncan as much as possible whenever the two of them are in the same room. While she doesn't hate Duncan, she definitely thinks that he's a little too stuck-up for his own good -- which is what she's here to help with! The two of them argue like they're siblings, Chanto always calling him names and trying to get a rise out of Duncan. At the same time, however, she knows that if she really needs someone to lean on, Duncan will be there for her -- however reluctant that support might be. Whenever she really needs help or advice, Duncan's there for her to turn towards.
"Hm... He's fine. That's a higher compliment than I can give almost anybody else I work with, by the way. They understand what it's like to actually enjoy the peace and quiet, and they're intelligent enough to match me whenever we talk."
---
Being the only other genuinely quiet person in the Investigation Division, Duncan's always held a healthy amount of respect for Clarence and the work ethic that Clarence consistently shows. The two of them spend a lot of time together in relative silence; even their texts seem to be relatively quiet, with the two of them sending chess videos back and forth and rarely reacting with anything more than a thumbs-up reaction. Duncan might be a bit thrown off, sometimes, by the strange topics that Clarence tends to bring up in conversation, but they always manage to make him think, at least (which is more than he can ask for from other people).
"I think the only reason that people dislike Duncan is because he doesn't let many things slip under his nose. Mm... He can be a bit nitpicky, standoffish, mean when he wants to be. But he's not, usually. I don't think it's too much for him to ask to be left alone, from time to time."
---
Clarence is more than happy to let Duncan into his space, something that he rarely does for anybody else, given how particular they can be about their quiet and their privacy. He knows, after all, that Duncan isn't the type of person to nose around in other people's business. While the two of them work in silence most of the time, Clarence loves encouraging Duncan to talk about the things that bother him, getting a kick out of listening to Duncan's rants. He especially enjoys having somebody to actually play chess with him -- given how impatient the other members of the Investigation Division can be.
"I thought Chanto was enough of a dumbass, but Kay is... I mean, have you ever talked to them?! I swear, they know exactly how to tick me off in the worst ways possible. I don't know what their problem is!"
---
Kay's one of the few people that, if Duncan was given the opportunity, he would genuinely enjoy punching in the face. Duncan can't stand how rude Kay can be, finding ways to get into altercations with them as frequently as possible just to have a chance to put them in their place. For all their fighting, however, Duncan still trusts Kay with far more than they'd ever admit, even to themselves. It's not like Duncan has anybody else willing to listen to all his complaints about everything that irritates him -- or anybody else more willing to complain along, at that.
"Fuck this guy. No, I'm being serious. He never returns my calls or my texts, he barely bothers to laugh at anything and just rolls his eyes without even bothering to hide it, /and/ he tries to call me short?! While he's using his essence to FLOAT?! I'll kill him. Seriously. I'll kill him."
---
Kay would throw punches at and with Duncan -- with no hesitation and no questions asked. They can't stand how condescendingly Duncan can act towards them, and hate the fact that it doesn't feel like Duncan can take a joke. Even though Duncan has Kay blocked on basically every platform you can think of, Kay still finds ways to spam Duncan with messages and pings whenever they get the chance. Despite the way they act, most of the time, Kay certainly doesn't mind gossiping and passing along drama to Duncan -- talking with Duncan far more affectionately than they would with somebody they actually hated.
