Appearance
Derek has short black hair and red eyes. His body is pretty lanky, but due to his vampirism, his body type is athletic. He tends to wear casual, layered clothing. Helps with the sun. His favorite outfit is jeans with a plain t-shirt and his sleeveless orange hoodie. When travelling, he wears a long, tan coat, and a giant, red, plaid scarf.
Personality
Derek is soft-spoken and somewhat shy. Due to his father's training, whenever he is in a formal situation, he becomes a well-mannered, self-condifent gentleman. He'll deal with and dismiss others with poise and politeness. He's got a pretty deep sense of righteousness, but until his father died, he wasn't allowed to express it. He hopes to do that more often now.

A golden ring that he wears on his left middle finger that makes him immune to sunlight. Particularly bright sunlight will still make him nervous despite the ring.
Superhuman Abilities
Like any vampire, he has super speed and strength.
Glamour
As a vampire, Derek has an innate ability for a Glamour. When he enacts his Glamour, his eyes will glow, and any human that looks into his eyes will follow what he says. It is a type of hypnotism. However, if Derek is too direct or snaps, then the human may snap out of the trance.
Fencing
Per his father's request, he's rather good with a rapier.
Combat Magic
He's well-practiced in healing, shields, and burning balls of light. Occasionally he will summon an orb of fire in his hand, or straight-up shoot light like lasers from his palms. It's effective against other vampires or other supernaturals sensitive to light.
Derek's coven participated in the raid on the shipment of special stock. He was supposed to participate as part of the group that ambushed the truck in uptown Rapture, but he bolted when the ambush actually occurred. All of the vampires that participated the raid died, so Derek is now living by himself in his coven's territory. He is left alone by the other covens because they themselves were devastated by participation in the raid, and the remaining covens forged an alliance as to ensure safety from hunters. Derek's father, Alaric Alvar, was the Sire of the coven, and was killed by Vice Satan herself trying to attack her. (He's the one that had the firework shoved in his mouth.) His mother was a human who died when he was young, about five. Since then, Derek was trained vigorously by his father to be able to take over leadership of the coven. He was forced into study after study, and fencing sessions to be able to duel should the need arise. The coven's connections and supplies keep Derek in a stable condition financially, and he's at a loss as to what to do with this newfound freedom. Hopefully he'll figure it out. After all, he gets to participate in his hobbies for once.
