David has a habit of babying Lucy despite her being a full grown adult - he gets very worried about her even though she can take care of herself now. He raised her as a single father and loves her so very much
David is Lucy's father. He aggravates her with his insistent protectiveness, but she knows deep down that he means well. They get along alright aside from that
David likes to say that Johnny is the leader of their little group, but in reality, David is much more suited for that role. He wants to try to influence Johnny's worldview and convert him into an optimist. He always treats Johnny with kindness and gives him attention and validation
Johnny likes David but doesn't understand how he can be so... chipper. Optimism seems to come so easily to him. David makes Johnny feel like he belongs there, and it's weird to him... He appreciates it, but he's not going to express that
David sings Aziz's praises very often, being sure to remind everyone that they wouldn't be very well off without him. David works very hard to make sure he's safe, since he doesn't want to be without a medical professional, for everyone's sake (but mostly Lucy's, if he's being honest)
Aziz and David are good acquaintances, but don't really interact much. Aziz is very thankful for David letting him into the bunker and keeping him safe, but he feels to same overprotectiveness from him that Lucy does- at least to some extent. He's not as frustrated by it as Lucy, but understands the not-feeling-useful aspect
David is surprisingly less protective of Cory than one would expect him to be, mostly because his neurodivergence isn't obvious from just looking at him. He does act like somewhat of a father figure for Cory, though, just from instinct. He is very impressed by Cory's skill with guns- as well as his seemingly endless knowledge on them. He's a tome of fun gun facts, and his collection comes in handy
Cory goes to David for hugs and comfort sometimes, seeing him as a paternal figure. He likes to show off for David and just thinks he's very nice. David talks to him in a very specific way so his words can't be misinterpreted or taken at face value as easily, and is generally considerate when it comes to his word choices with Cory. Cory is trying to teach David how to shoot
David found Anne as a survivor and brought her in; he gives her the most pity out of anyone there and is very patient with her, maybe to a fault. He's the only person (aside from Aziz) who won't call her out when she says something questionable. He has some romantic feelings for her, but it's not really acted on much
She cautious and judgmental of his friends at first, but is eager to have a safe place to stay. David, however, seems very normal and nice, to her. Anne instantly sees him as someone she can trust and he helps her to be more open to people that she can't really relate to on the surface level.
