Profile

Physical Appearance

  • Short black hair with a gray streak near the front
  • Brown eyes
  • Tall in height
  • Light brown skin, has some Native American heritage from her father
  • Physically fit with a strong build
  • Somewhat large sized breasts, although aside from that her figure is pretty straight/rectangular in general

Clothing Style

Celestae has a skater style with her clothing and tends to get her clothes from boys/mens sections just because they fit her preferences better, and also because it's easier to find things that fit her and aren't too thin or tight. Aside from her somewhat large bust, her figure isn't particularly feminine, so she doesn't feel comfortable in women's cut clothing. She prefers earthy or darker colors and usually doesn't wear anything terribly bright or colorful. Her tops are usually T-shirts or tank tops, and her bottoms are usually shorts or pants. She refuses to wear skirts, dresses, or anything else overly girly (which her mom tended to force on her when she was younger). Her footwear is almost entirely running shoes or high tops. The only jewelry she seems to wear are simple pendants of minerals/gems. She will sometimes wear bracelets, but they are never delicate metals or jeweled and are usually just plastic or leather.

Personality

Celestae is a rough and irreverent troublemaker who has little regard for authority and rarely lets anyone dictate her actions or behavior. She is very much a tomboy and isn't interested in most things associated as feminine, mostly because her mother always wanted her to be a "perfect daughter" and her forceful insistence of fulfilling that image has turned Celestae off toward anything related to being "girly." Celestae's favorite activities are skateboarding, dominating in volleyball, and interacting with birds, particularly falcons (she really wants to have one of her own someday). She is known for being very cocky, aggressive, vulgar, and opinionated, which doesn't usually make her well liked among most of her peers. She doesn't care if she offends or insults the people around her and will never back down from conflict. This makes her rather irresponsible and a problem child at times, which contributes to her not getting along with her mother.

Celestae doesn't really focus on or value her studies all that much and frequents detention and mandatory tutoring sessions to make sure she doesn't totally fall behind. She's also not a fan of formal events in the least and tends to just skip/ditch when she's not interested enough. She gets very argumentative when confronted and never seems to back down from her stance. Celestae can be somewhat of a bully depending on how much she is annoyed by someone, and she tends to get in trouble at school frequently since she thinks most rules are stupid. She doesn't have much respect for authority or private property, and she will fight anyone who tries to tell her what to do, save for a handful of her teachers. She is capable of mellowing out and being relatively down to earth, since she doesn't prioritize materialistic or shallow things, but it takes a very chill and non-confrontational situation to get her to that point, since she's quick to lose her temper.

Backstory

Celestae grew up with a strongly religious Protestant mother whom she frequently butted heads with, since Celestae never seemed to agree with what her mother wanted her to be, nor did she ever take her religious beliefs that seriously. Her father was more kind and easier to get along with, but he wasn't allowed to interact with Celestae very frequently since her mother, whom he was never married to, seemed to think he would be a bad influence on her upbringing. While her mother attempted to groom her to be a sweet and obedient young lady, Celestae always pushed back and acted more "boyish" than she appreciated, which caused many arguments between them. None of the things Celestae was interested in were approved by her mother, which included skateboarding, competitive and somewhat violent video games, and contact sports. She often got kicked out of sports teams for being too aggressive, which made her channel her aggression into other activities like vandalism and the like.

At some point her behavior got so out of hand it was likely she would've eventually been arrested for the repeated damages she caused. Around this time, she was invited by De Jack Zilvas to attend a private school for her apparent potential for Ayr rifting. Her mother promptly accepted the invitation for her since it seemed like an easy out of the situation and an opportunity for the new school system to fix her daughter's nasty behavior.

Celestae hasn't changed all that much since attending, although she's gotten somewhat better about taking directions from some of her teachers there, whom she's more comfortable with than her previous instructors. Despite still being a rather problematic student, she's found a good niche for herself with the volleyball players, since it doesn't allow her to make contact with the opponents during the game, yet she can still be an aggressive player. Her tendencies to ignore the rules around school and skateboard on private property hasn't changed all that much, but she feels a bit more at home with the array of strange students around her.

Trivia:

  • Celestae originates from a American History project I did in 8th grade. Although I forgot her origin for a while, she was featured on a project that required an outline of several early American presidents' actions during their presidency. She was drawn on the page featuring Andrew Jackson, which also mentioned that he signed the "Indian Removal Act of 1830" which resulted in the Trail of Tears. I forgot that I drew her with the intent of having Native American heritage of some kind and getting into a very brief argument with another character over having their lands taken. I didn't want to go into too much detail obviously since it was a sensitive topic, so there wasn't too much elaboration on her character other their sharp exchange of comments.
    • The character she happened to get into this argument with was Sam, not because I imagined he would've supported the removal act in any sense, but because he was recently made to be a minor extra character and I recycled him instead of designing some other generic person for Celestae to get into an argument with.
    • I completely forgot that Celestae was implied to have Native American heritage for almost a decade after making her, because her original design doesn't even look particularly "Native American" (aside from just... having dark hair, I guess...?). I likely did this just because I didn't want to draw a stereotypical design for a Native American and decided to just make her a relatively modern person to fit in with all the other characters around her.
    • Her current version has been adjusted to have some Native American heritage from her father's side. I'm probably going to make her skin tone a little bit darker so it's more clear that she's of mixed heritage, since her mother has been established to be a white woman.
  • It was more of a mild joke of sorts, but since she interacted a lot with Sam (who was originally made to be a "token" Jewish kid for a History project involving the 1st Amendment and freedom of religion), I tossed around the idea that Celestae could represent a "token" religion as well. Oddly enough she was picked to be the token Protestant, which doesn't seem like it would need a token character since Christians are pretty high in numbers. But try telling that to a middle-school aged gal raised Catholic and only at-the-time realized there were different branches of Christianity. XP
    • Celestae's current version is not religious in any sense, but her mother is a hardcore Protestant as a throwback to that little feature of her original version.
    • I have no idea which specific denomination her mother would be, and I don’t think it actually matters.
  • Celestae's rivalry with Sam started because of those history projects they occasionally appeared in. In canon though, they just get on each others nerves because they are very opposite on a lot of things aside from being outspoken, which causes them to butt heads frequently.
  • Her original hairstyle was a little more spiky and anime-ish, with a large grey spiked bang instead of her now more subtle gray bang.
  • Celestae was named after my Staraptor from Pokemon Pearl. Her large spiky gray bang (which used to have a red circle in it... somehow...?) was designed after Staraptor's head design, featuring the head crest, the circular spot on its forehead, and the red tip on the crest.
    • Her current design has been shifted away from the "Poke-gijinka" design and more to a regular human design, so her hair is more normal looking.
  • She also used to wear a red headband all the time in her original design, because allllll my old middle school designs had headbands for some reason. XP I like to imagine she still wears a red headband sometimes, but probably only while working out or practicing volleyball.
  • When he gets older, Celestae has a pet falcon. She learns falconry as a teen from a colleague of her father, although she rarely gets to try it out until she grows up since her mother tended to keep her from visiting him too often.
  • Would probably kick ass in the men's league of wrestling if she was allowed to participate. On the other hand, she might go too overboard with it. It might be a good thing that she only plays volleyball.
  • Angel has been trying to convince her to join the football team too, but Celestae isn't terribly interested in it.
  • Celestae honestly hates how big her bust size is because it is a bit difficult to keep out of the way and can cause her some back strain. She'd honestly be happy having it reduced, although she of course can't do that as long as she's stuck with her mother. For now she tends to just wear sport bras to reduce it somewhat.
  • She tends to hate "girly" things and doesn't typically enjoy making friends with other girls since her mother tends to force her "overly-feminine" image of what she wants her daughter to be on her too much. Celestae tends to be overly repulsed from girly things as a rebellious reaction to constantly being force-fed all of it while growing up.
    • She still doesn't care much for it later on, but she's less harsh about her dislike of girly things once she gets a little older and can create more distance between her and her mother.
  • Her current default outfit is based on an outfit an avatar of her wears in an app game I play. The outfit is a "skater" outfit, which is also where she got her liking for skateboarding from.
  • Her grades at school are pretty below average since she doesn't put much effort into her studies. However, she tends to do better in more hands-on courses, like PE, extracurricular sports, and woodshop classes.
  • Knows a couple skills from being forced to go to a girls' summer camp during her childhood. She didn't like that much of it, but she at least enjoyed some of the competitions and a few other sports they had. She admits she probably wouldn't know how to tie knots, swim all that well, or a handful of other skills if she hadn't been forced to go, but she probably wouldn't do it again if she had the choice.
  • Her mother tried to set her up with several "boyfriends" from church when Celestae was in middle school, but she basically scared them off each time with how aggressive and rude she was.
    • There was one that got frustrated with her and turned out to not be as "ideal" as Celestae's mother thought he'd be, and Celestae ended up punching him out when he tried too hard to assert himself over her aggressive demeanor.
    • After refusing so many boys, her mother is under the impression that Celestae might be a lesbian, so she's trying even harder to "fix" her. Celestae of course thinks she's a moron and just didn't like any of the boys presented to her.
    • Celestae probably hates girly things too much that she would never think of being in a relationship with another girl, although she might consider it when she's older and a little more mellowed out. But by that time she's already dating Sam, so she's not really looking for anyone at that point.
    • After they started dating, Sam told her that his younger brother was shocked they got together, partially because they used to hate each other and also because he thought she was a lesbian too. Celestae found it kind of amusing.
  • Her only girl friends are the a few on her volleyball team. Some of them are a little too "girly" for her taste despite all of them being really intense on the court, but she's friends with a couple of the "rougher" ones, like Angel.
  • She also likes to play the MMO, Sector of Spacecraft, she being a founding member of a very well-known guild called the CyRaptors and her character being well known as Celeste the Cyber Harpy.
    • She never tells anyone that she plays this game though, since she's kind of embarrassed about playing a "nerdy" game, so no one knows she's associated with that character despite it obviously resembling the type of character she would play in that scenario.
  • Celestae doesn't have much of a problem with her father though, aside from the fact that she's a little bitter he doesn't say anything against her mom’s overbearing behavior. She gets along better with him than her mom, but she rarely gets the opportunity to visit him.
  • Celestae ends up moving out as soon as she is able to support herself just to get away from her mother. She refuses to contact her and doesn't tell her mother any of her contact information to begin with just so she'll leave her alone. She does stay in contact with her father though, and he's vowed not to tell her mother anything.
    • She ended up moving out faster than she expected once her mother really started pressing for her to meet more "potential suitors" and was badgering her to stop seeing Sam once she figured out they were dating. It was this instance when Celestae realized her mother was also antisemitic, since that was the basis of most of her arguments for Celestae not to associate with Sam. Obviously she told her mother to fuck off.
  • For her 18th birthday, her father gifts her the money to get herself a tattoo, which she's wanted for years but could never get parental permission from her mother, and her mother certainly wouldn’t have given her and her father enough time to themselves to do it secretly. Her mother obviously was furious about it, but that kind of thing is only further motivation in Celestae's eyes.
    • I imagine Celestae gets the tattoo done by one of her father's friends, and she gets some kind of authentic Native American design by an expert in that field. The tattoos she has in some of her earlier art is just generic geometric shapes because I hadn't come up with a finalized design yet.
