THERE ARE SPOILERS FOR DMC5, DMC1, AND DMC3 ON THIS PAGE

This functions as a page for DMC5 Aurore, as that is the most recent iteration of her. Aurore's other forms are different tabs(except for Somnia, who has a separate page entirely)

very *motivated*

dt coming soon maybe

Name: Aurore

Gender: Female

Species: Half-devil

Skills: good at singing (though she hides this by acting terrible at it. Only Umbra and Vergil know the truth)

Abilities/Fighting Style: i'll make a tab for it somtime but uses the scythe for melee and revolver for range

Height: ~169cm

Affiliation: --

Personality: Aurore is outwardly a happy, energetic little ball of sunshine. She seems to constantly have energy to spare, even after having done tons of work. She has absolutely no problem talking to anyone who comes her way, appearing to be a nice person. However, what she truly feels on the inside is nowhere near as welcoming. Aurore feels fewer actual emotions than she acts like and had a difficult time comprehending her "humanity", a fact which frustrated her for many years, until she experienced life as Somnia (when she finally understood). Instead, what lurks beneath her supposedly false light is a nearly bottomless pit of darkness, stemming from the devil side she possesses a greater understanding of. Sometimes, particularly during combat, this side of her surfaces, and her identity as a merciless and carnage-loving monster shows itself, especially through her ability to kill without hesitation. Despite all of this, though, Aurore possesses a deep loyalty to Vergil and her sister Umbra, who she would fight for at the cost of her life. Gaining any notable sentiment from Aurore is incredibly difficult, but with effort, it can be done (cough, Vergil, cough). While the extent of her behavior is commonly an exaggeration on her part, she does geuinely feel many of the kinder emotions she acts on.

Story: (contains spoilers for Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 3, and Devil May Cry 5)

wip. Born to a devil mother and human father, Umbra and Aurore could have been shown the best of both worlds. However, soon after they were born, their father learned that their mother wasn't human, and instead was a devil (he hadn't known before), and ran away, ceasing all contact with them. As a result, Aurore and Umbra were raised by their devil mother, and learned more about their devil side than their human side. Although not the most conventional childhood, it was nice, and Aurore was happy. However, it soon came to an end, with Aurore's world crashing down before her their mother was killed. Aurore and Umbra barely escaped with their lives, and had to grow up learning to fend for themselves, trusting only each other. Umbra always protected Aurore, getting her out of any bad situations she might have gotten herself into. As a result, when Umbra told her that they should learn more about their human side, claiming that they would benefit from embracing their humanity, Aurore didn't hesitate to trust her and agree to try. While Umbra seemed to be quite good at it, Aurore had a much more difficult time with it, choosing to imitate humanity outwardly in hopes that somehow it would work internally. Despite her efforts, it never did.

Several years later, Aurore chose to separate from Umbra, as they each wanted to go a separate direction. Outwardly, it was nothing more than an innocent "we'll each explore a different place and then reunite later" with no hard feelings. However, internally, Aurore had made the suggestion because she had thought that she had been burdening Umbra and wanted to stop. She also believed that she would be forced to finally understand humanity through sheer necessity if she could no longer rely on Umbra(a trial by fire, if you will). During this time, Aurore encountered Vergil, a fellow half-devil. Deciding that, as their situations were similar, she might be able to learn something from him, Aurore chose to aid Vergil on his quest to gain power. He was skeptical of her motivations, but eventually realized that it was more trouble than it was worth to try to get rid of her. Early on into this collaboration, Aurore realized that Vergil was Sparda's son. But she didn't think twice about it, not having any particular feelings regarding it either way. And so, the two of them continued to work together.

When her collaboration with Vergil eventually led her to clash with Dante and Umbra, Aurore chose to remain by Vergil's side, as she and Umbra never actually fought during the incident. However, Aurore did make the fatal decision of staying in the demon world with Vergil when the portal closed, but only after forcing Umbra back to the human world. Vergil thought she was a fool for remaining with him even then. Even so, they traveled through the demon world together, during which time Aurore admitted that she liked Vergil and the two formally began their relationship. That is, until the fateful day that they encountered Mundus, who defeated both of them. Before her very eyes, Aurore was forced again to watch someone dear to her suffer due to her incompetence, as Mundus transformed Vergil before transforming Aurore.

For years, they were enslaved by Mundus as Nelo Angelo and Lux Messorem. Only when Dante and Umbra came to defeat Mundus several years later were they finally freed. But even this freedom came at the price of near-death, as Lux Messorem was defeated by Umbra. While Umbra had not intended to kill Lux Messorem, Lux Messorem impaled herself with Umbra's sword Sin and was killed, a fact that greatly distressed Umbra. It took years for Aurore to finally regain her full conscience, but when she did, she couldn't bear the emotions that flooded into her. Everything was painful, and every terrible thing that had happened to the people she loved was her fault. Too many times, she'd been too weak to help those important to her when it mattered most. But she didn't blame it on a lack of power. Instead, she found that her life had been spiralling downhill since she first encountered "humanity." She didn't desire power. She just wanted to stop getting hurt. The source of the problem wasn't weakness, it was her attachments and goodness. The memories holding her back. The sentiments she'd gained. All she wanted was to live freely and without this human pain as a devil. So Aurore cut it all away, cleaving human from devil. This created the human Somnia, the devil Eve, and several other discarded nightmares.

Aurore had never expected that she would become whole again after splitting herself apart, but, once again, it was due to the involvement of Dante and Umbra. But also... herself. As Somnia, Aurore had learned to face everything she had tried to hide from, realized that she was not burdening Umbra as she had thought, and had finally learned what it meant to be human. She'd finally made peace with something that had tormented her for so long. And so, this time, when it comes time to fix her mistakes, she and Umbra choose to join Dante and Vergil in going to the demon world to deal with the Qliphoth roots.

Months passed in the demon world with just the four of them, having finally made peace with their own twin. But one day, they return to the human world and return to their rightful places at Devil May Cry.

Partner(romantically): Vergil

Family: Umbra(Aurore's older identical twin)

Friends: Dante, Trish, Lady (all of which after DMC5 concludes)

Enemies: Also Dante

Other:

-Umbra's younger twin sister(Aurore is the younger one)

-Very good at acting like she is an emotionally functional human, but she very much is not

-Evidence? She's known Umbra since before they were born, but it takes splitting herself in half and being reduced to exclusively her humanity to realize that her sister doesn't think she's a burden

-She gets better at understanding emotions after DMC5(splitting herself apart) though

-Would never hurt Umbra ever so long as she had control(which is part of why she hated her time as Lux Messorem so much)

-Amazing at fighting, partially because she can shamelessly show her true colors then

-Fights with a scythe for melee and a revolver for range

-At this point in her life, her niceness and humanity overall aren't fake. She really feels it, after trying so hard to understand it for years and years

-Her scythe is called Sun Splitter while her revolver is called Shadow Shaper

Design Notes:

-short compared to Vergil and everyone around Devil May Cry, but is in reality fairly average in height

-on the ends of her sleeves, the lighter gold is always the one on the outside

-not all of the buckles are the same color

-the top buckle on the boots points inward(so it's different depending on whether it's the right or left boot)

-similarly, the buckle on the glove also points inward(so it's different depending on whether it's the right or left glove)

-yes, that is a hood on her jacket

-her hair is just messy

-the suns do not point in the same direction on both sleeves

-technically identical to Umbra. if you put them in the same outfits with the same hairstyle, theoretically they'd be impossible to tell apart (though their actions would give them away)
