The Scientist

Biography:

In 2007, Raven finally decided that he needed a job. He had gone around 2000 years without one at this point, so maybe some stability would do some good for him. Nightingale was a reaper, as far as he knew, so why not follow the example and get a stable career until he gets bored?

Raven found a job at a research facility in Somerville, Massachusetts. It said it was some normal pharmaceutical company on the surface, but in actuality, they were working in human experimentation. Apparently, they were trying to play with human souls, wanting to see if a human being could survive without one. Could a human become an artificial monster through the extraction of their soul? In all honesty, this experimentation bored Raven greatly. That's why he only barely helped with it. He just steered them in the right direction, is all.

On the night that the first successful test was performed on a human newborn, Raven received a phone call. It was from a familiar voice, one that sounded as if it was coming from inside Raven's own head. He instantly recognized it as Nightingale, his other half and pseudo twin. Nightingale made a request of Raven: Kill everyone in this facility. They were to be reaped as a punishment for their horrid experiments. And the newborn shouldn't have to suffer as he surely will in the future.

Raven found this all a bit dramatic, but he obliged anyway. Reaping souls sounded a lot cooler than some lame human experimentation, anyway. Raven grabbed a knife, and he got to striking all of the researchers down. After, he took the newborn in his arms, and, admiring the little life, decided to return him to his family. It's not like he had a soul, so the reapers - Nightingale included - wouldn't have his survival in any records.

Rumors of the massacre would spread throughout the country, but with no evidence pointing to anything, it quickly became nothing more than another unsolved case. No one other than true crime enthusiasts would find much use in it after the years continued to pass.

God of Death:

Despite currently being in hiding, Raven still holds power as the god of death. He can grow a black angelic wing on his left shoulder if he wishes to. He also heal quickly from any injury, so he is pointedly very difficult to kill. Finally, as a bringer of death, Nightingale is able to create and find immediate mastery in any potion or poison, finding it extremely easy to make even the most unlikely things work. This is useful, as he is not always guaranteed to have a weapon around.

Draw With:

Nightingale (Commissioner): The first contact Raven has with his twin since their initial separation is Nightingale telling Raven to kill researchers so they don't have to. After that event, Raven and Nightingale start to reconnect, getting coffee at local cafes and talking about the years they spent apart. Raven is shocked that Nightingale has found love again, and Nightingale is shocked that Raven hasn't. Other than that, the two are as close as can be. It really is like nothing has changed since they were one person all those years ago. Raven claims that, once he finds a new job, he's going to move in with Nightingale in a little apartment.
