General Info

Insert a Baby Shark joke or "We're gonna need a bigger cult" here.

Areb's aggressive and boisterous, yet fun-loving at the same time. Basically, she's the vodka aunt of the cult, even while Ushanka Dog was still in it.

Her voice is deep and booming, with an Australian accent. She also uses a bunch of word filler - uh, um, ah, stuff like that.

Backstory

Ever since the Star God government were kicked off of Blyssia, they've had their collective minds set on one thing; taking it back through any means possible. One of the methods they tried was causing political instability via assassins, but there was a bit of a problem; the citizens of Blyssia would get incredibly suspicious of a Star God during this time. (It's part of the reason why almost all of the Star Gods who fought with them during the war lived on a separate planet for a while.) So, they turned to creating assassins by gene splicing animals and other such things.

The Star God government kept sending out stronger and stronger assassins until they began to run out of resources for them. In order to keep the citizens of Blyssia busy while they stopped to recuperate, the Star Gods put all of their available resources towards one last juggernaut of an assassin. This was Areb! Unfortunately, due to the aforementioned lack of resources and the overall rush to make a brand-new base elsewhere in the galaxy, the gov't weren't able to improve and perfect her intelligence. Not that this mattered much, though; Areb was well-enough versed in speed, magic, and strength to cover up for this.

And so, she lived a relaxed yet exciting life for 500-odd years. Due to knowing a 'forbidden' spell that could make her completely invisible, Areb was able to kill her targets in a way that seemed like the work of an all-powerful deity. This earned her the nickname 'Empyrean Executioner', which she's kept to this day. As time went on, Areb got annoyed of doing assassin work. It was always "kill this random person to cause 'instability'", which was starting to both not matter in the long run and end in failure due to the citizens of Blyssia catching onto her techniques. So one day in 53 BC, she just... disappeared from the Star God government's hidden base.

Now, obviously, she had to hide for a while on a distant planet so that they would stop looking for her. But all-in-all, Areb got off scot-free from that. Somehow. She eventually came out of hiding in the 400s, and returned to Blyssia a few decades later, claiming to be an early experiment who fled during the War for her safety. And somehow, that also worked! But then again, she was wearing different armor and used invisibility spells during her heyday. Anyway, she messed around for a while until eventually meeting up with Thikaid in the mid-600s. There, she learned about the story of the Unity and how he was trying to find Shizue and Nat.

Something about Shizue's story really resonated with Areb; she could relate to it in many ways, somehow. As a result, she forged all-new armor inspired by what (she thought) Shizue looked like, as well as her trusty war hammer, Wave Length. Areb also offered to help Thikaid find the two, and eventually, they did! And that was pretty much it for Shizue and Areb's encounters - Areb spent most of her time guarding the outside the cave that Shizue in. Nevertheless, she was enlightened by the experience, and returned yet again to Blyssia in order to do various odd jobs. Areb became filthy rich as a result!

One day, Areb learned that this 'Amaranth' was starting up a group dedicated to restoring the former time god Enzik's power - who they claimed to be a reincarnation of - and strengthening Earth against outside threats, and offered big bonuses to anyone who'd join. A secret meeting with them enticed Areb further - as it turns out, Amaranth made this group, Sol Invictus, to potentially combat the Star Gods too! (But that was just a little secret kept between Amar and Areb.) This convinced her to join the cult, blissfully unaware that Amaranth is the exact same being as Shizue's biggest enemy, Gun'harand.

For, you see, Areb had thought that Gun'harand died during the fight against the New Unity. However, Amaranth was able to deceive her and claim that Gun'ha survived the encounter, and was working with both Shizue and the Maldedrom to completely get rid of Enzik. Given that they're an alleged reincarnation of Enzik, Areb could easily see how this 'New New Unity' was a serious threat to them. She was also highly disappointed at Shizue, but held out hope that she would eventually see the truth and repent in some way. (This is another one of their little secrets!)

(If only Areb knew the actual truth...)

Given her skills and early membership, Areb quickly became one of the most important people in Invictus. She helped the group gain power through intimidation, as well as teaching new members her fighting methods and techniques. Then, in the 1970s, Amaranth began a project to turn animals into humanoid beings to help achieve their goal, much like what the Star God government did to make the Blyssians and Mekirai. Understandably, Areb got really suspicious and upset about it, until she was reassured that the hybrids would be treated like family.

All she had to do was pretend that she 'discovered' the first batch on a distant planet, as a Star God experiment which were cryogenically frozen due to an undeterminable incident, and then have them move to Earth due to the hostility of said planet and a 'surprise' offering of a place to live from Amaranth. As time went on, Areb would end up raising Ushanka Dog - one of said hybrids - along with Thennakarsis. In addition, she'd take care of Viktoriya from time to time, as her dad, Kara, was a busy man.

Once the hybrid project ended, Amaranth was in a bit of a pickle... there wasn't enough room at the Invictus bases for all of the Northmen! Thennakarsis, who had just come back from a family vacation to Magadan, had a good idea... they'd buy a whole bunch of area in the Russian Far East and raise the hybrids there! And this, my friends, is how the Northmen of Siberia - and Areb's continuing leadership of them - came about. When she's not dealing with the Northmen, Areb acts as the group's executioner, and is one of the few members who works for both 'teams' of the cult.

(Yes, I know that the Russian Far East isn't part of Siberia, but the 'Northmen of The Russian Coast Surrounding the Sea of Okhotsk' is far more clunky and unmemorable.)

Fun Facts

  • Along with Thennakarsis and Kara, Areb is part of the 'High Five' team - a group of five elite cult members, surprisingly enough.
    • I can't reveal who the other two are yet. You'll understand why.
  • Her favorite animals are highland cows.
  • Areb is one of the (very few) members of Invictus that's strong enough to defeat and possibly kill Gun'harand/Amaranth in a fight, even if her intelligence is less-than-ideal.
    • Who are the others? Well, there's Thennakarsis, and as for third (and last) one... I really can't talk about them right now, but they're part of the HF Team too.
    • In case you're wondering, Kara and the last HF Team member are too weak in terms of physical strength to challenge them.
  • Her favorite color is blood red - it makes her go wild like a bull! (I would've say 'but that's a good thing', but then I realized it's called BLOOD red for a reason...)
    • What's her least favorite color, then? Cobalt blue.
  • Areb's favorite snack is maraschino cherries dipped in tuna and nacho cheese. What the hell.
  • Most of Areb's scars (and her missing finger) come from their work as a Star God assassin - including one incident where somebody managed to cut her throat open! Thank Malde she's well-versed in magic, huh?
    • That being said, the bite mark on her right hand did NOT come from a job! You see, she may or may not have tried to pet Ushanka Dog like a, well... dog.
  • In her spare time, Areb likes playing tabletop games. She almost always ends up in second place, which enrages her just a bit.
  • Areb is completely fearless. Her philosophy involving risky things is 'Do it! If ya get hurt, ya get hurt. And if ya die, ya die!'.
  • It may not look like it, but Areb is a really good musician! It's difficult for her to play instruments due to her size, though.
